I've jumped up considerably in the Lyte line for my single Sunday ticket - now I'm #195 in line! Maybe there's a chance I'll get a ticket for Sunday after all
Figured Rhiannon would get announced at some point or another. Don't hear much about Alice Merton in here, perhaps because she is so tied to her one hit that it gets tiresome, but she has some terrific songs and Newport is one of the larger fests she has not played -- with a possible East coast gap in her schedule at that time.
Btw -- anyone attend the Sea. Here. Now. fest last year? Been toying with attending. Curious whether its a drunk fest, or a place where people appreciate music. Interesting mix of acts.
Anyone have any thoughts on who would comprise a backing band for the Seeger show on Sunday (ala Jon Baptiste last year). I know Colin Molloy would be a natural for that performance considering his Seeger book out last year. So would Arlo. But the band itself?

Not likely, but if Newport wants to give me the Seeger Sessions Band, and Bruce for that matter, I’d be ecstatic.

That would be pretty badass, but without Bruce they wouldn't embarrass him. Perhaps the "backing band" are the performers and their instruments, ala the Weavers.
I’m currently bored and figure I’d compile a working list of the acts I’m most excited about to date:
1) Dawes and Friends 2) Kacey Musgraves 3) Maggie Rogers 4) Nilufer Yanya 5) Lucy Dacus 6) Billy Strings and Molly Tuttle 7) Ruston Kelly 8) The O’My’s 9) Our Native Daughters 10) Bonny Light Horseman 11) Sheryl Crow 12) Haley Heynderickx
After that, a pretty big gap... but still a few others that pop out
13) Trey Anastasio 14) Preservation Hall Jazz Band 15) Jeff Tweedy 16) Nude Party 17) Mountain Man (the potential to be the biggest mover as I’m more unfamiliar with them than I should be) 18) I’m With Her 19) Charley Crockett 20) Phil Lesh
I must say, the last two weeks have been good to me with respect to announcements. Lineup still feels a little weaker in terms of my specific interests; still missing: 1) indie folk rock bands, and 2) buzzy must see in 2019 folk rock acts (like Calexico and Iron & Wine, Raconteurs, Boygenius, Better Oblivion Community Center, the Highwomen, and others). Also, I’m still underwhelmed with Sunday (as you can see from my list). But Newport has impressed me nonetheless and I’m now getting excited. Will revise this list after a few more announcements as I’m sure we’re going to get some more good ones.
1. Dawes and Friends 2. Kacey Musgraves 3. Maggie Rogers 4. Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band 5. Courtney Marie Andrews 6. Mountain Man 7. Haley Heynderickx 8. Lucy Dacus 9. Billy Strings & Molly Tuttle 10. Bonny Light Horseman 11. Our Native Daughters 12. Nilüfer Yanya 13. Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real 14. Liz Cooper & The Stampede 15. Sheryl Crow 16. Yola 17. Jeff Tweedy 18. Gregory Alan Isakov 19. The O'My's 20. The Nude Party/Parker Millsap (tie)
There's no real knockout booking for me yet, but the first 12 here I'm looking forward to quite a bit and the others I know I'd really enjoy
Top 5 realistic adds I want: 1. Better Oblivion Community Center 2. Gillian Welch 3. Chance the Rapper 4. Sharon Van Etten 5. Father John Misty

Was I the only one that thought it was odd that they “Newport” didn’t mention the fact that O Mys collaborated with Chance in the bio that they wrote about them. Seems like something worthy of mentioning.

I wouldn't have mentioned him as realistic if it weren't for the connection. I don't think St. Vincent was mentioned in Tuck & Patti's bio last year
But I'll also note that I think Chance's album is supposed to come out in July and Newport feels like a weird gig for him to do so early in the album cycle

If you don't mind me asking what specifically did you try to check out? Studio albums? Old or new stuff? Obviously not every artist will hook other people but I feel like Todd is such a good songwriter and also entertainer/storyteller that I want to spread his work. If I had checked out his early studio material I never would have liked him like I do now.

I just went on Spotify and did a shuffle through his music, I’ll check the early stuff and see what’s up.
Will do my most excited, but first an exciting day for new music: New Glen Hansard, Norah Jones/Jeff Tweedy collaboration, Shovels & Rope, and new songs from Vampire Weekend and Lumineers. Going to be good listening today.
1. If I Had a Song (because these final Sunday performances have all been amazing) 2. Jeff Tweedy 3. JS Ondara 4. Jade Bird 5. Trey Anastasio 6. Phil Lesh & The Terrappin Family Band 6. Our Native Daughters 7. Rayland Baxter 8. Todd Snider 9. Bonny Light Horseman 10. Mountain Man 11. I'm With Her 12. Yola
Here's my top 20, the lineup is already looking really solid for me.

Aren’t these bios pretty standard and often submitted by the band/management?

Cool that makes sense. Nah, skip early stuff for now. Go for live. I suggest the live album the storyteller. Gives you a better idea of what he's like now. Much like Wilco and MMJ his early stuff is more like alt country and stuff. Still good but his more current show is much different. Definitely look for live stuff. He tells some stories that lead into songs but always super entertaining

I'll also add new albums from Cris Jacobs, Anderson .Paak and Damien Jurado. I'd love to see Newport bring any of those guys into the mix, extra shout out to Cris for being a Baltimore native, seeing his album release show tonight. I'm surprised Jurado hasn't played yet.

Illiterate Light Newport Festivals Foundation has made a donation on behalf of Illiterate Light to the Harrisonburg High School Band Program. This donation will underwrite scholarships for students - from band camp for rising ninth graders and current high school students to college scholarships for seniors leaving for universities.

Does it matter how much money was spent if the lineup ends up being awesome and filled with great artists? I expect some more big names to be added to the lineup but I already know my weekend will have more music/sets that I want to see than I'll be able to check out.

It does when I can see 2/3 of the acts for 15 bucks.
