Newport Festivals Foundation has made a donation on behalf of Matthew to Nuçi's Space. The donation will allow Nuçi’s Space to provide 3 Full Camp Amped Scholarships (2-week program) and 1 Partial Camp Amped After School Scholarship (1-week program) to students in need of financial help. Students will learn how to be in a band, write songs and perform as a group. In addition to music classes, Nuci's Space will conduct Survival Skills Sessions to educate students about the importance of mental health.
This is outstanding news...that I would be much more excited about if I weren't also seeing them at Shaky Knees in a couple of weeks.

Robert Plant was just announced today as a headliner at a festival near me in Fredericton, NB - Harvest Jazz and Blues. The two other headliners are Jason Isbell and Nathaniel Rateliff, so I am inclined to be optimistic about a NFF appearance. It's advertised as the kick-off to his North American tour.

It's in September, though, so might mean we're out of luck. He's at Woodstock but I have a feeling that'll be a one-off if the tour's starting later
Kurt Vile at the Columbus Saturday of folk fest with J Mascis. Thinking he’s playing during the day on Saturday.
I can’t recall recent NFF alums booking a competitive show during NFF weekend in Providence, but I could be wrong. Maybe they are trying to capitalize on the potential aftershow audience, but seems odd this wasn’t coordinated with NFF in some way.

July 23 2016 - Joan Shelley and Sam Amidon at Columbus. She also played Newport that year.
Maggie Rogers will return to NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on April 23rd and make her morning television debut on “TODAY” on April 25th. The pair of TV performances will come on the heels of her sold-out spring headline tour and her debut performances at Coachella.
On her summer/fall Heard It In A Past Life tour, Rogers will be playing substantially larger venues, increasing the size of her audiences by 300-600% in comparison to earlier plays in many markets. At artist pre-sales in Boston, Nashville and New York City, over 73,000 people queued up for a chance to purchase tickets, leading to immediate sell outs at The Wang in Boston, two nights at NYC’s Radio City Music Hall and two shows at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. Rogers also sold out two nights at Austin’s ACL Live at the Moody Theater and is the only artist ever to headline two consecutive shows at Thompson’s Point in Portland, ME. After developing a lovingly cultish devotion to Maggie online, fans are turning out repeatedly for the live experience – and they’re bringing their friends along.
I still need to check out Illiterate Light. Who would you compare them to?
To me, they sound like a cross between J Roddy Walston and Delta Spirit.
With that said, their debut album is still forthcoming and their sound could change or become more refined when that drops.
I think they’re opening for Rayland Baxter (which IMO emphasizes how small/new they are as a band).
Saw them open for Rayland a few months back and didn't know who they were. Wasn't real thrilled with them, but maybe it was because they had the sound cranked to 11 and it made there stuff unlistenable. I'll probably give them another shot at Newport.

I just don't get this. I saw her at GovBall last year, and she was...fine. Not bad - she has a really nice voice. But nothing about her work jumped out at me as being worthy of this huge groundswell that's happening around her...unless she's somehow taken a huge leap, performance-wise, in the past year.

I haven't seen her since she played Boston Calling, but from watching videos she's definitely been getting stronger as a performer (her coachella performance was the best I've seen her do) and she also put out her first album with a bunch of catchy, emotional songs that almost all make for great live singalongs, and she has a pretty endearing personality. She's not doing anything revolutionary but I think she's very easy to enjoy and has made a lot of people feel personally invested in her career
I'm not shocked she's continued getting bigger and bigger. I've heard her mentioned by friends/co-workers more than maybe any other artist over the last 6 months or so
