Here's approximately what it'd look like as a traditional lineup
Dolly Parton | Florence + the Machine | My Morning Jacket Leon Bridges | Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats | Father John Misty The Shins | Day of the Dead | Kacey Musgraves | Deer Tick | Mazzy Star | Lake Street Dive Maggie Rogers | Cat Power | boygenius | Sharon Van Etten | St. Paul & the Broken Bones King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard perform Paper Mâché Dream Balloon Richard Thompson | Parquet Courts | The Devil Makes Three | Phosphorescent | Gregory Alan Isakov Josh Ritter & The 400 Unit | Kevin Morby | Todd Snider | Rubblebucket | Mountain Man Infamous Stringdusters | Amy Helm | Brent Cobb | The Ballroom Thieves | Natalie Prass Middle Kids | Waxahatchee | Jamestown Revival | Benjamin Booker | The Suffers Adrianne Lenker | Antibalas | Ron Gallo | Jade Bird | Whitey Morgan and the 78's The War and Treaty | Lady Lamb | Haley Heynderickx | Naia Izumi H.C. McEntire | The Shacks | Anna St. Louis
I'd totally be on board with this. King Gizzard would definitely be an outside the box booking, as would Mazzy Star. Day of the Dead would be so cool

King Gizz at Newport. That would be loco
It was a thought I had during the last lineup season when there were complaints here about the lack of more out-of-the-box bookings. Then I saw someone at the fest with a Gizz shirt on. It's now a personal mission of mine to find a way to make it happen

100% onboard. The fest needs more rock n' roll. Let's ditch the chairs in the Quad one of the days and have a sweaty dance party.
Black Pistol Fire > Thee Oh Sees > White Denim > Deer Tick > Japandroids > King Gizzard

Watching the World Series tonight and Fox had some footage from inside the monster featuring the very Kleen Kanteen I purchased this year. Go Sox. Go Folk Fest.
Joshua James Lianne La Harvis Erykak Badu Damien Jorado Superorganism Family of the year Revel In Dimes Florence and the machine Jade Bird Vance Joy Sons of the east Judah and the lion alt-j Modest Mouse Manny Walters Gregory Alan Isakov Arcade Fire Amy Ray Ripe Israel Nash The War On Drugs Jamila Woods The National City of the sun Iron and Wine Sam Amidon Sigur Ros Bon Iver
Laura Jane Grace and the Devouring Mothers would be a phenomenal booking for next summer. Always need at least one punker’s side project on the fest bill.

Katie Crutchfield did an Instagram live last night. I requested her presence at Newport along with Kevin Morby (Since it didn't work with KM). She responded that she didn't even want to think about Newport because it upsets her so much... or something along those lines. Looks like they're both definitely out for 2019. Sad.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher
Just received my notice re advance sales Nov, 21- 28. I still feel funny about it. Anyway, guess that means regular sale right after.
Question -- Like I should know after 6 years. If I cannot make Friday but have a three-day pass, am I able to put just one day on re-sale, or would i have to do it by meeting up with someone who wants the tix since we get them so late? May or may not have a one-day conflict.
How do the "Advance Sales" work? I've been to Roo 13 times, but looking to branch out (in addition to Roo, of course...)
You make a donation to the Newport Foundation at the festival. There was them a drawing; those whose names were picked are able to purchase tickets in advance. If you are not selected you can have a refund of your donation. There are mixed opinions about this. But as I was going to make a donation, anyway, I'm glad to have an early chance to purchase tickets. I would have been happy with a hat and poster, but that's the 60/70's guy in me who doesn't like money buying you a better place in line.
Still not sure what to do if i cannot use that Friday ticket.

I don't recall there being an option other then 3 day passes last year at the early bird sale. This year's email implies the same. On Lyte you would have to sell the entire 3 day pass. You will only get one ticket for the 3 days, so you would need to trust whomever uses your Friday not to beat you to the gate Sat. and Sun if they had it in their mind to be less than honest. Was in the same boat last year with a Friday not being used but had a family member that could only go friday so it worked out. The best option I can think of assuming you use the early bird is to swap with someone who gets a friday and a 2 day weekend pass at the regular sale.
Being an older gal i get what you are saying about the donation, however i got over that really fast last year not having to fear a heart attack trying for tickets. Then not having to be in the lottery as first-year members were automatically back in last year if you showed up at the booth and re-upped. One of the few donations we can make and know every penny will be used for good.

Yes, you are right! I forgot that I had a single pass for all days last year...or how many years. Sure, there are trades and after shows...I trust most people here for that. And yes, knowing I am assured at least those two tickets is a bit of a guilty pleasure.
Stationed in one of Saddam Hussein’s rubbled palaces, he had access to a piano that had emerged miraculously unscathed. A captain heard him play and sing with his once-in-a-generation volcano of a voice, and he encouraged Michael to pursue music. When that same captain was killed, Michael sat down to write––really write––for the first time. Officers noticed the tribute, pulled Michael from the front lines, and gave him a new charge: write and perform songs for the fallen.
So, I have an ask for this thread (namely, because I don't lurk on any others and looking for advice from Newport-goers only...).
I'm planning a friends' weekend (okay, yes -- it's a bachelorette party, but I hate all the normal associations that go with that term). I want a similar Newport experience in terms of music and level of relaxation/chill vibes from other festival/concert attendees. I'm basically looking for a festival weekend sometime next spring/summer (anywhere between April and August, minus NFF weekend of course!) with some or all of the following qualifications:
1. Decent one-day pass prices (will mostly likely only do music one day) 2. Outdoor-sy surrounding area (looking to do hiking, kayaking, SUPing, that kind of shit the other day) 3. Smaller, but fun city (I'm thinking somewhere like Asheville, has coffee shops/breweries/restaurants, etc. but you can still find a quiet corner easily) 4. A lineup with a similar vibe to Newport (folk, rock, country, lack of firm genre, etc.)
Are there are festivals that have been on your wishlist? There are just so many, I don't even know where to begin -- but felt like this would be a good place to start as you all bring such a wealth of knowledge! And hey, if I go to the place/festival you recommend -- I'll throw some beer tokens your way next July. Many, many thanks in advance!
i'm very late to this but I am a big fan of Mountain Jam - in years past it has skewed more towards folky alt rock with some a smaller amount of jam bands. Its cool to camp for - but also lots of cute airbnb's in nearby towns. Tons of hiking and outdoor stuff to do. River tubbing and cute town and great food tucked into some of these little hamlets (I'm biased because I own property up there) - but the fest itself is super chill and pretty small. Although - last year they had some low turnout due to a mix up in genre and i haven't seen any announcements yet about next years date :/
I haven't done High Water - but have been to Charleston and it LOVE it. Its on the top of my list as a city i need to get back to go very soon.
'13 Bonnaroo, Mountain Jam, Boston Calling '14 Mountain Jam, Boston Calling '15 Bonnaroo, Mountain Jam, Gathering of the Vibes, Boston Calling '16 Mountain Jam, Firefly, Newport Folk Fest '17 Mountain Jam, Newport Folk Fest, Boston Calling '18 Mountain Jam, Newport Folk Fest '19 Newport Folk Fest '22 Newport Folk Fest
man, is it time to start speculating wildly or what? too excited for nff season. like that clashfinder strawman, i would absolutely love to see Day of the Dead. got response from both Desnner and NFF when i tweeted about it a few months back (though they jokingly said they'd need a full stage for a full day).
any chance anyone is hitting any last waltz performances? Will be at capitol theater in new york saturday, show feats some alums including nicole atkins, craig finn, kevin morby, sam cohen, nels cline, josh kaufman, matthew white, among (i imagine) many others. cannot wait.

Bummed I can't make it to that last waltz show. Went a couple years back and it's a pretty incredible night. Nicole Atkins will undoubtedly knock it out of the park on whatever song she does. My year had Phosphorescent doing Bob Dylan's part
Iron Maiden with the folk weekend off. NY before, PA after. That’s it! We’re getting Iron Maiden! . . . . . . . Ok, I’m not serious here... . . Still suspicious though. Maybe Panorama, if that’s even a thing anymore.
