not too concerned about getting tickets next week but man, seeing a bunch of people scoring theirs today is making me reconsider this foundation thing...

Ditto
To be honest, it makes me feel a little uncomfortable, but having two tickets already is a comforting feeling, and I suspect has increased donations. Leaving the after shows to fate.

I'd get tickets anyway. I see it as a way to give back and say thanks to NFF. They use it do good in the world. They've given me so many great memories and introduced me to amazing music. If one kid who benefits from a NFF donated instrument grows up to write a great song it'll be worth it. I was hoping for the 2018 Newport video today. Hope they still do that. Love them.

Hi! Long time no see. I hope you're doing well. I've been super busy the last few months, moved to a new city a few weeks after Newport and got a job transfer and life has been hectic. That being said, I haven't been able to get my computer working properly since then, so I don't know if I'll have the time or ability to run Bingo this year. If anyone wants to step in in my place, I'd be happy to help you get started! Also, grabbed my presale tickets today and I can't wait to see y'all again!

Good to have the message board coming back to life and welcome back to it. Hope the move and job transfer was for the better. The start of this message had me sure we were in for a money laundering spam/scam.
That being said, i would love to take on Bingo. It fits right in with my love of games and obsession with who Newport might put on the bill. Would be happy to share the work with someone if others are interested. Let me know if others have reached out. (keeping this as a public message so others can also reach out to either of us.)
Probably right, but I'd prefer to see one of them switched out for Nathaniel Rateliff
and for that one to be Hozier
Agreed. Not a huge Hozier fan. Although NR is a bit stale sometimes. Although that new album changed that, and provided new tunes.
Not sure that I see why Leon Bridges is a strong likely candidate for this year. He just played as a part of the Jon Batiste set so it doesn't seem like a gimme that he comes back. I can see Hozier as he has the strong history with the festival, hasn't been for a while, and he has the new album. But most importantly he has the one new song that so speaks to the ethos of Newport. My sense is that Jay/the crew really values the one great protest song and that can lead to a booking as much as anything else. With that in mind I would put Andrew Bird on my list as highly likely to be invited and hopefully play:

I hope Andrew Bird plays too, the new song fits right at home at Newport. Same goes for Hozier
One other note... I was excited to see that Matt The Electrician is coming to the Boston area. he is playing at Club Passim on Monday night which will be a great little spot to see him. For those of you that have enjoyed him these last couple of years @ Newport and are based in the Boston area I encourage you to come on out: passim.secure.force.com/ticket/#sections_a0F6A000002FHdYUAW

I'm pulling for Leon too. I'd like to see the new NR stuff live, think they'll be back already even though they did the surprise set in 2017?
As was mentioned I could see them giving the Sturgill/Isbell treatment to any two of these three.
I feel like they're all on a similar level, Leon's a little bigger but the other two have more connection to the Fort, so I could imagine any of them closing things out on the Fort.

I took it to mean that they are going to require/request that every artist on the lineup donate something to a different musical charity of their choosing. Basically that they are upping their game when it comes to charities involving music education even more than they have done in the past. Should be bigger and more varied, if I got that right. They've always donated but feel the need to do even more so they are hooking the artists into it this year.
I could see it being part of the rolling announcements where it's like "Here's THIS ARTIST and they are donating to THIS CHARITY for the 2019 festival" or something along those lines.
Not every performer has $$$ to donate, so I would think performances at fundraisers, or visiting a school / after school program fits in nicely, as well.
I could be wrong -- having been through the expectations game with the Bob Dylan anniversary -- but I think 60 years calls for some tributes / performers who connect to the earliest years. Could also work in the opposite way and we see more new performers than ever. Should be an interesting roll-out.
I think he is saying that the festival will donate on behalf of the artist...like they did this year for Hurray for the Riff Raff. Not the artist themselves.
