That's a fair point. It's just a really strong day for my personal tastes, but I can certainly see some being underwhelmed. I'm just trying to be a bit more positive lately instead of being a wet blanket all the time.
So you're saying I have a chance?
I'm pretty sure almost everyone gets in off lyte
I signed up a couple days ago and am in the 1100's. I don't think I'll be getting a Lyte ticket.

I wouldn't lose hope. People just don't give up their tickets until they're absolutely sure they can't make it. So there's not a ton of movement until July
I think the negative reaction to the Dusters is that Sunday just feels like any other music festival. There are no unique or inherently Newport booked bands on that day. Instead, Sunday could easily be a day at Mountain Jam. Or any other moderately niche music fest in the country: Portugal, Trey, Dusters, Lake Street Dive, Hozier.
You could have taken any of those acts and booked something more unique or interesting. Like booking Lonesome Trio or Mipso as opposed to the Dusters. The Shins or New Pornographers over Portugal the Man. Belle and Sebastian or the Isley Brothers over Lake Street Dive. Ben Howard over Hozier.
Even if the Dusters are a fill in booking, I think many of us would have preferred Mavis as a fill in. Or Sharon Van Etten. Or another artist that is rumored to be at Newport during the weekend but doesn’t have a set yet.

I signed up for Lyte two weeks out from the festival last year, was somewhere in the 400s and got tickets the Wednesday before the fest.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I’m still going to have fun on Sunday. Not trying to be a wet blanket either. The O’My’s and Nilufer Yanya were my two favorite discoveries from the lineup announcements (and will likely conflict with my luck).
And the Dusters make sense for whatever jam fest stage lineup Jay is putting together: Billy and Molly, Stephen Marley, Dusters, Trey.
It’s just not the most unique and self-marketable day lineup in Newport history.
So a Facebook search of “Newport Folk” brought up a top result from singer-songwriter Dan Blakeslee. Stating on May 17 that “I’ve got some very exciting news to share with all of you involving Newport Folk Festival! I will announce next week!”
Was he announced as part of the after shows? Did he do the posters for the after shows? Or is it an announcement still to come (museum stage, live from album, festival poster)?
Looks like Dan did an amazing poster for this years Newport, which is up for sale on the website now:

Great find. Will this be the same poster they sell at the fest? Should I buy it now to avoid the lines at gates open? Have they sold it early in the online store ever before?

This will be different from the fest one. Dan tends to do this every year.

Well that sold out about as soon as it was posted to social media.
Although I love the new hat. So happy they’re finally selling a non-trucker non-camo hat.

Jay commented on a Facebook post that Steve Gunn will be at the Milk Carton Kids aftershow, for those of you going
Any chance I’ll be able to see him perform his own set at the fest? Or will he play a set before the MCK (or simply join them for a song or two)? Would really love to see him.

Seemed like he'll just be at the aftershow, unclear in what capacity
Bummed he's at that and not Steal Your Folk, but there's gotta be some goodies for the others I suppose

There's been plenty of people who pop in at one after show and then show up at another. There's still some hope.

gotta say it was cool having the misty aftershow last year have surprise opening sets by both Hamilton leithauser & rostam and Jenny Lewis. only downside was that misty played an unbearablely slow acoustic set that literally put me to sleep after sitting through two openers and two full days of the festival

That Father John Misty set absolutely blew me away. Just a guy playing his tunes on a guitar. No gimmick or rants or whatever. Just him and a guitar/mic. It was a highlight of my whole weekend.

It was sleepy, I concur. I love Misty, but all of his songs are in the same key on acoustic.

Prediction. Stevie Nicks will be part of the Collaboration and play with DeerTick. Heard it here first.
I love this prediction and would be floored if it were true. I wonder what the 4 venus symbols would mean, then? The announcement definitely implies 4 women being the focus, and I don't know if Stevie Ticks fulfills that.
I love misty, that was my 8th time seeing him, but that setting was just tough that late at night after being in the sun all day. it was slow. very slow.
the guy yelling "how ya feeling!" during Mr Tillman was the most energetic moment of that whole set.
I'm also just not really a fan of live acoustic performances. love listening to them at home but I guess i haven't learned my lesson after attending many shows billed that way being a huge letdown.
