Total noob to board here - but hardcore Newport fan of many years. As unseemly as it is, I'm sacrificing my dignity and throwing myself to the mercy of the community to grovel for the details of the mystery artist(s). Thanks folks.

The answer can be found with some google searching and search filters. Might want to include different speculated big names in your search. But it's out there.
I think it's exciting for the festival and a good get but not as exciting for me personally. I'm still going to like seeing them at the fort but I am not the target audience for sure
I agree with this. It sure seems like a unique booking but it’s a super weird thing to have as a mystery headliner because I honestly don’t know how many people will even know who this person is.

It's not too crazy different as you listen to it but definitely threw me off from the first notes. The video has that odd moment where Seth starts talking to the camera and sounds like he's trying hard to sound deep or meaningful and I was thinking "okay....get back to the song". I think the single version doesn't have that breakdown and it's only on the video.
I liked what I read that said they started off with this as a typical country/folk/americana sounding song but then trying to change it up like their previous records working with Rick Rubin and let them try something a little different.
Either way, I like the song. But i'm biased as a big Avetts fan.
Noooooooooooo. She was a top act for me. Hadn't ever explored her music before the announcement, and she quickly became one of my favorite artists booked for the fest. I really hope she's replaced by someone else outside the typical folk scene rather than one of the many typical folk family acts that they'll have on hand (unless they want it to be Kurt Vile or Sharon Van Etten).

I think it would be awesome for s replacement but I'm assuming they'll probably just shift some acts around and make it work. Extend some sets or push someone to a different slot. Like that. Any kind or replacement would be fantastic, though
NoName cancels her appearance a day before Bruce releases his new album. Maybe it was all a ruse to keep everyone from suspecting him as an unannounced guest. Now it seems all too obvious. Whose the great sleuth now beaker?
Wonder if they’ll get a similar artist to fill in for Noname. I hope they do.
Not similar at all, but I would like if they gave Robert Ellis a set since we know he is around that day. Also Natalie Prass would be a good fill in too

I’m missing this year so I’d love to know the spoiler if any kind soul is still handing out DMs. Need to know if it’s good enough to fly across the country with a 1 month old last minute...

Someone also posted a nice reddit thread about favorite Newport moments, and I posted the following. Just a little message from someone who will be missing the fort terribly this year. So many things, and so so many little things that have become part of the tradition. Melville Ponds campground, knowing everyone around you is there for the same reason. Stopping at the liquor store and sneaking a few nips into my secret backpack pocket. The Portsmouth stop and shop. Building anticipation when you get close enough to be stuck in traffic, drinking a beer while walking in, making it in time for the very first band (Darlingside had us in tears before the festival was even an hour old last year.) The moment in the middle of the day when there is no one set I HAVE to see so I just wander from end to end letting music from all four stages wash over me. Seeing someone pop up in the alcoves at the quad or the family tent, or seeing a set like Grandma’s Hands that blows you away and you know you’ll never see again. Watching the sun go down over the bridge and leaving as slowly as possible, enjoying one last beverage while the parking clears out.
My wife and I are missing this year because we moved to the west coast a few years ago and have our first baby due in two weeks. It’s the happiest possible reason to miss but I’m still tearing up a little reading these posts. We went for the first time in 2009–she was my girlfriend at the time not my wife and she got me tickets to just Saturday for my birthday. We went back in 2014 and have been going every year since. We’ve added other family members but always been together, and I know we’ll be back with our new little one next year. Keep the fort warm for us!
