I doubt we'll get a repeat performance of that, but it does make me think she might pull out something special for NFF.
Speaking of repeat performances, feeling like it is a bit odd that both Courtney Marie Andrews and Lukas Nelson got invited back for a second year in a row. I like that Tiny Desk has the policy of no repeat performances unless it is a significantly different performance either through style or band make up or some other reason. Feels like Newport kind of has the same unspoken ethos behind it's lineup. For example when Nathaniel Rateliff came back the second year in a row it was unannounced, on a smaller stage and from what I hear had a different feel to it than the first year. For those that know more about Courtney Marie Andrews and/or Lukas Nelson, how do you think their performances this year will be different from what they did last year? They are both on my second tier of acts that I would like to see but depending on who they conflict with, I may not end up seeing.

Nathaniel Rateliff actually played 3 years in a row (with the 3rd appearance being unannounced).
A handful of artists have played the Museum Stage and then one of the main stages the following year, which is what Courtney Marie Andrews is doing this year.
Other than Rateliff, I think Shakey and Hozier have played the main stages in back-to-back years in the last 5-6 years, so it's not unheard of. Lukas Nelson had Star is Born and a new album since last year, so lots of new material. Who knows, it could also be part of Jay's and teams play to eventually get Neil to the festival.
curious if the play on 4 non blondes and the collaboration could have anything to do with Dollys album Trio. bringing Emmylou and Linda Rondstadt in the mix would be killer
I don't think anyone has to delete anything. It's a public forum. Frankly, it's more annoying to see constant posters coming out of nowhere asking for a leak.

I didn't tell anyone to remove it. You're absolutely right. No one has to remove it. Jay Sweet requested it be removed on another group and some folks here decided to honor his wishes which is cool. Probably because of all the great work he's done. Personally I think those who want to know should know, only because it got publised on a public website and there is an auctioned meet and greet going to happen. But I also think its fair to let newer users know why it was removed here and of Jays wishes. What they do then is up to them. Thats all. Not looking for an argument.

I'm happy to welcome any and all newbies, but maybe contribute something to the conversation before jumping straight in with "gimme, please"
I count 12 relatively new people who jumped into just to ask for the leak, a large chunk of whom had maybe one other post 2 years ago asking for the Rateliff leak.
I was given the info, but publishing here makes me uncomfortable. How many artists would only play if it is total silent running before they appear? James Taylor was closely guarded until the last few days; it probably didn't go much beyond George and Jay.
On the other hand, when Newport plays with fire, like an unnamed performer that has a meet and greet in press release, they should know they will get burned. Want to get really conspiratorial -- its a controlled leak to drum up excitement and perhaps even hide a bigger name connected with them. Perhaps neither performs, but instead are curating something or just helping with the foundation. I'm good with that, too. Still, uncomfortable leaking here.
On a Lyter note, moved about 100 spots since mid-May to #125 for Saturday. Big names don't help me. Ha. It's going to be close, but I've seen these numbers move up to 8 spots in one day. We'll see.

If the leak is going to be posted on the forum it should at least be hidden behind a spoiler warning. The way it’s visible right now isn’t fair to the people who attend the festival and would prefer to be surprised.
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher
I’ve been responding to a few people who HAVE contributed to the forum with the possible spoiler.
To all others, since it’s getting overwhelming, here’s the leak:
John Prine doing music from Lazy Town
Just gonna ignore matthewgroehl and post that spoiler without using the tag? Cool, dude.
That being said, this will be a fitting tribute to the late Stefán Karl Stefánsson, and I am so excited to hear Prine's take on "Bing Bang". Should make for a truly historic set.

Lol...do you really think Andy was being serious with that leak?

Yes. Why would someone lie - or worse, joke - on the internet?
The spoiler is in Larry Farnsworth's post about 6 up from this one. I'm not the authority by any means, but I think a spoiler tag should be added so people who don't want to see it don't have to.

Hey, sorry if I'm one of the dirty dozen! I'm pretty active on other boards 'round Inforoo, but this is my first time at Newport, so I've mostly just been lurking the thread to see what the grown-ups are talking about. I'm also, however, psyched AF for this trip to the fort, so when talk of super-secret info was going around, I got all excited. Didn't mean to harsh the vibe at all.

I hope you don't mind me sharing a few great Irish folk bands I grew up with.
Christy Moore. The man has so many great songs. This one is about a man in love with a gypsy woman. Taboo forbids them being together.
True you ride the finest horse I've ever seen Standing 16 1" or 2" with eyes wild and green
Luke Kelly. He sung with The Dubliners. An absolute legend. There were two different statues unveiled of him in Dublin this year alone. His career was influenced by Pete Seeger. He was a great friend of the Seeger family. Pete had him over to perform at NFF once. I consider him the greatest folk singer of all time. This song was recently voted the greatest folk song of all by Irish public.
On Raglan Road on an Autumn Day, I saw her first and knew That her dark hair would weave a snare That I may one day rue.
The Pogues. The punk folk template used by Dropkick Murphys was made in 1970s London by Shawn McGowan. At the time Shane was a friend of The Sex Pistols. He decided to merge punk with the music his Irish parents liked. He's an insane rowdy genius. It's a mystery how someone so unstable wrote such beautiful songs. The Pogues 'Fairytale of New York' is one of the most popular Christmas Songs in the UK and Ireland. This ones about a rainy night in Soho London.
We watched our friends grow up together And we saw them as they fell Some of them fell into Heaven Some of them fell into Hell
The Waterboys Actually a UK band. Including them here for a reason. They were once a UK chart topping 80s rock back. At the height of their fame they disappeared to the west of Ireland and sought out aging celtic musicians. The album that came out of that was fantastic. Any Newport Folk fan would probably love Fisherman's Blues. So many influences. Yates, Dylan and Guthrie. It's all here. This is the first song from the album. Imagine being trashed about in an Atlantic storm. Its pure freedom.
I wish I was a fisherman Tumblin' on the seas Far away from dry land And it's bitter memories

I figured it out on my own after asking. I’ve been going to Newport for years and enjoy reading this forum but I almost never post. Most people do seem friendly but being told that my question won’t be answered because I’m not deemed worthy of the information doesn’t mesh with the “we’re a friendly bunch” But thanks anyway

LOL. that's one way to interpret what was said.
Surely you can understand that this is a discussion/message board and people might not want to just have a bunch of people asking for information without contributing anything to the discussion? It's not some radical theory we're talking about here.
