Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I'm happy to welcome any and all newbies, but maybe contribute something to the conversation before jumping straight in with "gimme, please"
I count 12 relatively new people who jumped into just to ask for the leak, a large chunk of whom had maybe one other post 2 years ago asking for the Rateliff leak.
Hey, sorry if I'm one of the dirty dozen! I'm pretty active on other boards 'round Inforoo, but this is my first time at Newport, so I've mostly just been lurking the thread to see what the grown-ups are talking about. I'm also, however, psyched AF for this trip to the fort, so when talk of super-secret info was going around, I got all excited. Didn't mean to harsh the vibe at all.
this wasnt directed at you, and I'm glad you contribute to other areas of inforoo!

For those waiting in line on Lyte for tickets - the line seems to be moving quickly now! I was #45 this morning for a Sunday single-day ticket, and I just got the notification my request was fulfilled!!
I feel so grateful and it'll be the first time I'll be attending the festival for more than one day a year
I hope you don't mind me sharing a few great Irish folk bands I grew up with.
The Waterboys Actually a UK band. Including them here for a reason. They were once a UK chart topping 80s rock back. At the height of their fame they disappeared to the west of Ireland and sought out aging celtic musicians. The album that came out of that was fantastic. Any Newport Folk fan would probably love Fisherman's Blues. So many influences. Yates, Dylan and Guthrie. It's all here. This is the first song from the album. Imagine being trashed about in an Atlantic storm. Its pure freedom.
I wish I was a fisherman Tumblin' on the seas Far away from dry land And it's bitter memories
Fisherman's Blues is one of our favorites! Best soundtrack - Waking Ned Devine. When i finally got to take Quacker on the Ring of Ireland tour a year back, we had high hopes for Doolin however it was a tad too commercial. Found a traditional set in a tiny pub in Galway one night that gave hubby an authentic experience. Will check out the others. Thanks for the post!

I’m excited to see Jenny Lewis tomorrow to try and hold me over until next month. I definitely have been craving something to feed the monster before the fort!
I figured it out on my own after asking. I’ve been going to Newport for years and enjoy reading this forum but I almost never post. Most people do seem friendly but being told that my question won’t be answered because I’m not deemed worthy of the information doesn’t mesh with the “we’re a friendly bunch” But thanks anyway
LOL. that's one way to interpret what was said.
Surely you can understand that this is a discussion/message board and people might not want to just have a bunch of people asking for information without contributing anything to the discussion? It's not some radical theory we're talking about here.

I am one of the dirty dozen too and I apologize for not contributing more. It's just not my kind of thing but I enjoy this forum more than any other online. Newport is my favorite weekend of the year and I love attending. I will try to contribute more here since I understand the sentiment behind the post. Thanks to everyone for all the great music recommendations and I hope everyone keeps contributing to my music knowledge.

Cheers frannie. Not trying to attack anyone it was just a bit much for a while there.

You did the right thing going to Galway. Great place. Loads of amazing places neaby too. Its where the Irish language and music is best preserved. Fisherman's Blues is an amazing album. It backstory is so interesting and was born in Galway. Its truly a reverse Dylan Goes Electric story. A rock band on verge of a U2 sized career goes folk. They tour here from time to time. Think they played College Street New Haven a few years back. ----------- It’s hard to totally wrap your head around Scott’s decision in the context of the late ’80s and early ’90s. He had arrived at that juncture every musician dreams of, when your work is being recognized, when you’ve come into your voice, and all you need to do is follow through and all the riches and glory await. In a 1991 interview with Rolling Stone, Scott firmly rejected the notion that he had been afraid of greater mainstream success: “Success, to me, is being happy in your life,” he said.
In that same Rolling Stone article, there are reports of label heads offering Scott a million dollars per album. None of this mattered then. Scott was the type to unabashedly follow his muse, wherever it led.
He developed an infatuation with traditional Irish music, and the journey took him even further off the map eventually: Parts of Fisherman’s Blues were born in a ramshackle house out west in County Galway, parts were born from the band stopping by pubs to jam with local musicians. Scott immersed himself in the life there, and emerged with a love letter to Ireland.
Scott had always fashioned himself as a sort of old-time poet troubadour, and in some ways this was merely the final realization of that. If Scott’s business people were able to reach him out in Galway, they must’ve wondered if he’d lost his damn mind. He was going from “The Whole Of The Moon” to an album full of fiddle and mandolin? In the end, though, Fisherman’s Blues turned out to be his masterpiece, and one of the more overlooked classics of the ‘80s.
Just saw War and Treaty in my friend's living room! They played a house concert here and it was the most moving, magical night of music and love. God are they great!

Lyte has really started to stall. I am ISO three, 3-day kid's passes, if anyone can help. Thanks!
Sure has... It made large leaps right after the line-up completed - moved from mid 50s to single digits for 2 3-day passes in days. It's been like watching paint dry for 10 days now. We are no longer in must-have mode but it makes me feel for those that have to travel and are not locked in.
PS. LD and I started this group as Quack Club then NFF thread 9 yrs ago LD? We promoted through the years as the safest little corner of social media/inforoo, so Welcome to all of the noobs even if only to ask for the spoiler. For many it takes a lot to finally jump into an established group for any reason and it should be encouraged. No one is obligated to share spoilers if you don't want to. While i read/lurk, I don't post here much these days because this amazing group not only loves music but live it too. Seriously amazing current scene knowledge. beaker is a sleuthing, music freak of nature. I be like Forrest Gump - music make me happy.. compared to 'all y'alls' collective knowledge! (I jumped over to our QC FB group and asked Bacon and ITM for the spoiler rather than ask here. ) Gentle reminder from momma quack that the collective should rep NFF by welcoming new folkers and encourage conversation regarding anything NFF. Queue the Glinda scene telling the munchkins it's safe to come out now.
Speaking of 'anything' NFF - has anyone come up with the perfect shade solution since EZ ups were banned? LD - too far out but ready to start the long range weather predictions? $5 on hot, humid, with chance of T-storm every day.
While I sadly think King Gizz is a stretch for Newport, I think this band would be a great fit and would love to see them in 2020. They’ve been opening for Khruangbin this month.

They were SO GOOD at Bonnaroo. I'm really hoping they're at Newport next year.

Maybe a big Brittany Howard lineup spot next year? This article makes it pretty clear she's focusing on her solo career and doesn't have any immediate plans with Alabama Shakes.
Still need to check out Thunderbitch but have listened to Bermuda Triangle. I like the two Shakes records but it seems the typical story/path of "this one.....this is the star" may possibly result in leaving the others behind.
So close to Newport Folk Festival 2019. Hope the weather holds up. I had a look at the nff wiki page. It now has a section with past lineups. The last 7 or so years have been so awesome. It's rarely reflected on corporate radio but we're in a mini golden age of music and newport is delivering it. We take for granted how much technology has changed music. Youtube, Amazon Music, Pandora, Spotify and Social Media changed the game. Two Swedish kids make a video covering Fleet Foxes. It goes viral and First Aid Kit are discovered. If anyone can recommends their favorite apps or websites they use for tracking music I'd love to know. I like using the steaming music feature where you pick a band and let the playlist play their music plus similar artists. Find great new music that way. Playlists similar to The National, Iron and Wine and Fleet Foxes seem to deliver for me. Would love to hear a few other recommendations or artists can expect at Newport someday.

Ahhhh I’ve been looking for a lineup repository for years! Link?

It's under the lineup section here. But I'm unsure of the accuracy. I own a print of the 1960 NFF lineup and it doesn't match the 1960 lineup shown here. I need to do some research.
Edit: Initial search online for the 1960 lineup confirms the lineup listed on the wiki page. Apparently the 1960 lineup poster i own is from an alternate universe. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newport_Folk_Festival
Just returned from Wilco's Solid Sound Festival at MassMOCA in North Adams, MA. My favorite sets included Courtney Barnett, The Feelies, The Minus 5, Lakou Mizik, The Autumn Defense with a string quartet, Tweedy and Friends and Wilco of course. I am sure there were many other great sets that I couldn't catch. If you like rock and roll, go to MassMOCA and check out the art exhibits from Annie Lennox, Chrissie Hynde, the Laurie Anderson virtual reality experience, and the rock and roll photo collection "The Bright and Hollow Sky" (https://massmoca.org/event/the-bright-and-hollow-sky/). You will not be disappointed. Now, ready for NFF!
