Every time a schedule gets released I find myself wishing they would stick one of the bigger names way earlier in the day. I realize that is not how festival billing works, but it would reduce conflicts and motivate me to get into the festival earlier. That being said, the conflicts I have aren't terrible this year because I've been super lazy about doing research on artists I don't know.
I'm actually impressed with how Friday turned out, looks like I'll be bouncing back and forth between the fort and quad all day. Very happy about Phil headlining, as I'm a big dead fan, but have never seen him.
Saturday is likely going to be a game time decision for Maggie/Kevin/Lucy. I'm a big fan of Maggie, but I just saw her less then a year ago. At the same time, I'm not very familiar with Lucy or Kevin, so some more listening is in order to help with that decision.
Sunday is definitely the hardest day for me. Not because of any super difficult must see conflicts, but more due to my lack of super strong interest in anyone that day. The one exception is the Milk Carton Kids, who I've been meaning to see for a few years now. Probably going to see all of their set, then catch the end of Portugal the man. It's been like 5 years since I've seen Hozier or Portugal, and I'm really curious about what a Newport Portugal set will look like, but I also don't really want to miss that much of the headliner...decisions decisions. I also would love to catch some of Hozier, but I don't realistically see that happening as I hate splitting sets (especially multiple in a row).
Any chance you could throw in individual set times for the museum stage since those are posted under each event? If not, absolutely no worries - already appreciate what you've done!
Could Kurt Vile be the unannounced set? He's in providence that night.
I have been hoping for Kurt Vile to be added in some capacity given his proximity, but unless that set remains unannounced and he’s a surprise act, I think he’s far too big for the slot that is reserved.
I still think we’re going to get one of the regulars who are already in town (Aaron Lee Tasjan maybe?).
But I’d love for something more unique. Someone on here suggested Jamila Woods and I think she’d be a phenomenal booking. My own recommendation would be Cautious Clay. Probably too big but Japanese Breakfast would be awesome as well (and is at Xpnfest on Friday without any Saturday tour stops). I also hope for Hop Along who have an east coast tour that stops about a week before Newport.
And I wouldn’t mind Angie McMahon getting a second non-Museum stage set- apparently she’s blowing up in Australia right now and might be a household name in the near future. She has more Spotify plays than about 50% of the acts on the lineup.
Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats played an unannounced set in practically the same slot a few years back. I could see a radius clause keeping him away officially, and if he doesn't bring the Violators, solo Kurt works perfect for an early in the day set.
Just pipedreaming at this point, but it's possible.

I agree it could work as an unannounced set, like Rateliff. But, it says “To Be Announced” rather than “Unannounced” in the schedule, so I think that small detail will limit the size of the act playing assuming it is actually going to be announced prior to the day.

The schedule ended up mostly working out really well for my tastes for Friday and Sunday. My tentative schedules are looking like - I welcome any recommendations, as there's a few spots I'm not 100% sure what to do:
Friday
Yola > ??? (Any recommendations between Liz Cooper, Cedric Burnside and Parker Millsap?) > first half of Cooks in the Kitchen > Warren Haynes > Benmont Tench > debating between catching all of Lukas Nelson to have a good spot for beginning of The Highwomen set, skipping Sheryl Crow > Phil Lesh > Steal Your Folk aftershow
Sunday
Preservation Hall Jazz Band > maybe the beginning of Bonny Light Horseman or Nilufer Yanya (Thoughts??) > first half of The Infamous Stringdusters > Lake Street Dive > Trey Anastasio > the last 20 minutes of Billy Strings & Molly Tuttle > last half of Phosphorescent > first half of Portugal the Man > If I Had A Song
I can't wait for my favorite festival again - we're almost two weeks away!!
FRIDAY: Black Belt Eagle Scout > Yola > Liz Cooper/Yonatan Gat > Cooks In the Kitchen > Kacey Musgraves > Lukas Nelson > Sheryl Crow? > Highwomen > Phil Lesh
Was about to try a personal schedule, but realized there’s too many “what if”s.
If it’s raining or super hot on Friday and I secure a seat in the Quad under the tent, then I’ll probably post up there for the first 3 acts Black Belt, Liz, Cooks). But if it’s a nice day, then I’ll probably venture to Yonatan Gat between Liz and Cooks.
If Maggie Rogers is playing a normal set, I won’t miss a second. If she’s playing a stripped down acoustic set, I’ll probably leave early for some Kevin Morby or trying to get into the tent for Lucy.
Anxiously awaiting TBA because I’d be happy to fill that gap and miss the start of Jade Bird.
I’ll feel out rumors to determine whether I want to leave Dawes early for the Collab.
Might try for Judy Collins on Sunday but I’m not going to wait hours to get into the Museum to do so.

I'm planning on doing Parker Millsap, based on the rest of your schedule I think you'll be a fan. Liz is good too
Even though we haven't heard anything from them, I think the Bonny Light Horseman show will be a can't miss. That being said, Nilufer put out one of the strongest albums of the year, so seems like a win-win.

The First Ladies of Bluegrass could also relate to ♀♀♀♀: the Collaboration — could see them as the backing band
Edit: along with the core of Becky Buller, Molly Tuttle, Missy Raines, Sierra Hull, and Alison Brown, it looks like Gillian Welch and Rhiannon Giddens have also guested with them.

1) That would be a disappointing headliner
2) I doubt if they've gotten this far keeping it under wraps, a smaller name like Sierra Hull/her management would blow the surprise like that

I could absolutely see them backing the spoiler that leaked in that press release a little while back.
Sierra Hull just announced a Folk Fest date for Saturday on Bandsintown. Wonder if she's taking that TBA slot...

Great find.
This makes sense, size-wise, for that TBA spot. Pretty on brand booking by Newport, while still bringing in fresh faces. I approve. (Although I’d have personally loved to have seen a more comparable act to Noname. Or something more in line with my personal musical interests).
However, given that each of the individuals in this project appear to be touring on their own before and after Newport, that would be a crazy coincidence if Newport was able to put this together in the 11th hour. In some ways, it does almost make more sense as a backing band for the headliner because it seems as if it would have had to been planned for a while. But, coincidences do happen.

I want Warren and Kacey to join Lucas during his set.
I want Warren, Kacey and Lucas to join Sheryl during her set.
I want Warren, Kacey, Lucas and Sheryl to join the Highwomen during their set.
I want Warren to join Phil during his set.
Yes, please to all of this - Warren Haynes is amazing! Along those same lines, I'd love to see Trey sit-in on a few sets on Sunday as well, namely The Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Infamous Stringdusters and Lake Street Dive (to name a few)
Friday: Black Belt Eagle Scout > Yola > Liz Cooper & The Stampede > Cooks in the Kitchen > Charley Crockett > I’m with her > Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real > The Highwomen > Phil Lesh & The Terrapin Family Band > Steal Your Folk After Party
Saturday: Haley Heynderickx > TBA or The Nude Party > Jade Bird > Jupiter & Okwess > Gregory Alan Isakov > Maggie Rogers > Lucy Dacus > Jeff Tweedy > Dawes > The Collaboration > Mavis Staples After Party
Sunday: The O’My’s > Nilufer Yanya > Bonny Light Horseman > J.S. Ondara > Lake Street Dive > Trey Anastasio > Phosphorescent > Portugal The Man > If I Had a Song
I have 2 tickets for dinosaur jr and Kurt Vile in Northampton the same weekend as Newport, if anyone knows someone who would want them let me know. Free of course.

I love Sierra Hull and Molly has been one of my favorite discoveries from this year's fest, so this has me excited even if they're just the backing band for Saturday's closer!

I’m familiar with Sierra because she runs around with the McCourys and I got to catch her early on at DelFest. Molly because I discovered Billy at that same DelFest and learned about Molly through him.
That said, I learned something really cool when I poked around for info on this project (I’m not directing this at you but to the general audience who may be unfamiliar as I was). Each of these women are the first and only women to win IBMA awards for their respective instruments: banjo, fiddle, guitar, mandolin, bass.

But who is playing with Warren?
Does it matter? Lifetime moment-- listening to Warren's voice echoing across Wannee as I missed 'seeing' but not hearing my top act so i could cook dinner amongst the forest for kids that came with $20 each for the weekend and pooled their last $6 for a six pack. And then.... Cortez. Karma was a sweet mistress that night! op336 were you the one looking for a saturday tix? We have a three day tix that is only getting used friday.. If you are still looking it's yours. If we can make it work for Sunday for someone else, awesome.

Now you have me thinking back to finding a swimming hole after raising a barn outside Kittery, Maine and everyone playing an instrument, even if just a soup can or blade of grass nestled between two thumbs.
Very kind of you to offer the Saturday tix, but Lyte has been a freight train the past few days and my Saturday spot went from 39 to tix tonight in just 4 days. I may have extra on Friday. If so I will make the offer here before turning it back to Lyte. Thanks again and enjoy the weekend!
