I am still mad too. What a screw job. That said, this Boycott Bowl festival I have heard rumblings about will surely be a shiz-show based on the "concert promoter" I read was organizing it. And the lawsuit? Man, some people just want to capitalize on the epic screw we got.
I haven't heard about the Boycott bowl, but I know that they are trying to put on a parade or are doing a parade. I know I am not watching, but nola is petty. Billboards in ATL, free eye exams, the maps of who everyone is rooting for but my favorite out there so far is the craigslist listing in missed connections. That shit is so hilarious. I am mad, especially since I have been saying it is our year since August 29. I even told Marc Fucking Romig...twice. But at the end of the day, the Saints had an amazing season and this is fuel for the fire.
Still can't believe how bad the Saints got screwed!! Was at the game, it was so surreal seeing it go down like that.
It was bad..similar to the screw job the Steelers got in the Superdome a few weeks ago that kept them out of the playoffs.
it wasn't similar. In that incident, Kamara did not get interfered with even though the referee called the pass interference. It was a bogus call from a referee out of position. But we didn't do anything wrong.
In this incident, Nickelldick Robey-Coleman has admitted to going after Tommylee Lewis when he knew he was beat. Not only that, he went after him to prevent the TD with a helmet to helmet shot that also wasn't called. He's publically admitted it and bragged about it on his facebook page in a video. Everyone saw it. So it's not a situation of the officials making a bad call that we had no part in. It's a deliberate situation and even attempt to take out a player when the NFL is supposed to be about player safety.
McVay wants to counter that the facemask penalty non-call was in some way commensurate. It wasn't in any kind of way. He's looking to legitimize their win when almost every pundit not caught up in parroting someone else's ideas to sound cool about it knows it's the worst non-call in the history of the NFL and probably in Top 5 of sports all time.
Meanwhile Goodell hasn't said shit. Everyone knows that if and when the integrity of the NFL comes into question, it's a precipice they've got to walk back from. You don't want to be considered WWE, and you need Vegas and sports bettors to constantly push NFL hype. And you can't spout all this safety and head trauma bullshit if you're not going to take serious action against the perpetrator (not talking about a fine) who has bragged about doing what you say the NFL isn't about (after denying CTE and concussion issues for years before).

Checked Stubhub today - market for Thursday only tix is holding around $350/ticket. Not a bad margin if you are selling. In unrelated but NOLA news, Boycott Bowl = Fyre Fest.
Hi All - First time back to Jazzfest in 15 years, 2004 was last. Was looking to see if anyone could provide recommendations and/or tips and tricks of navigating late night shows/venues.
1) Is it recommended to buy the late night shows early? Do they sell out well in advance typically? 2) Are there a lot of impromptu shows at clubs that are not listed or communicated in advance that will be worth hunting down right before fest begins? 3) What are the best late night venues? Taking into account history of venue, comfort (i.e. a little space to breath, standing is fine), and where the magic happens (music magic that is)? 4) What local NOLA musician would you not miss that is on tap to play this year? 5) Are there shows that have been announced that anyone here is hyped for, if so, what is drawing you to it?

Any and all feedback is greatly appreciated.
1) Some of the bigger ones will. Most of the 2am shows aren’t even announced yet. Many (New Mastersounds are bound to be added) will have good crowds but probably won’t sell out. Stuff at the Saengar might. But if you see something you want to go to like Claypool-Lennon or whatever, it won’t hurt to have tickets in hand. Not sure about the Phil Lesh shows.
2) Pres Hall Midnight Preserves do sell out. Problem is they don’t announce who the performer is on any given night. I think you’ll see more special guest appearances (unannounced) than shows added last minute.
3) it depends on what you like. Venues that are sure to have shows going until 5 or 6am are Howlin Wolf, The Joy, Republic, Cafe Istanbul and Tipitinas among others.
4) George Porter, Jr., Ivan Neville, Stanton Moore, Weedie Bramah (Live for Live Music followed him last year).
5) 2 nights of Disco Biscuits because I’ve never seen them and they’re one of my favorite bands. 3 nights of SCI because I love them. I’m hoping Black Star gets added and is not conflicting.
Looks like I'll be there first Thurs- Sat morning. Mrs. Blotter wants to hit up the FOF show @ the HOB, but we have tickets now for the Weds Fillmore FOF show. Def on a budget this year so I'd like to take it a lil easier.
Thurs: Fest> ? > Knower 2am show @ Tips (just checked them out that should be a lot of fun) Fri: Fest> JRAD (finally seeing them for the first time)
Weds: FOF @ Fillmore. Fyi in case anyone missed it the big rumors were Keith and/or Mick sitting in on this. The location and guests were rumored weeks ago so it seems pretty legit. Either way I'm fine the show will be badass. Also stoked to check the Fillmore out if I don't make it to Duran Duran right after opening. The Stones love the Meters and had them open up for their '77 or so tour so it def seems reasonable to speculate.
THURS: Fest for Stones. Don't have a ticket, and def don't like not having one but I will get in without going over face too bad. Got an extra for FOF as trade bait for Fest. Will flip a coin between CLD and SCI probably. Learning towards CLD.
andddd that's prob it for me. Weird to be out so early in the weekends but it is what it is.
Gonna try to come back late first Sunday for the Damo Suzuki show @ Music Box Village. He was the singer for the krautrock band Can and is gonna have Quintron et. al for his musicians so it should be extremely experimental and far out. Def the most interesting show booked during JF for my tastes.
Yeah, I hit my buddy up last night who is a giant Krautrock fan. He loves Can. I think I'm blowing out to Panama City Beach that day. But if I don't, I'd like to hit that show up. The other show they have announced (so far) for Music Box Village is the Ghost Note Junk Yard Jam with Mononeon on May 3rd which is 2nd Friday. Some other recent shit to pop up the last couple weeks:
Sun 4/28 - Evening with George Porter Jr. and his funky friends @ Howlin' Wolf Sun 4/28 - Lett Us in the Dumpsta featuring members of Lettuce & Dumpstaphunk @ Maison Mon 4/29 - Stanton & Skerik's 20th JF @ Tip's 2am Monday morning (w/ Robert Walter, Scott Metzger & Andy Hess) Mon 4/29 - Ghost-Note-Neon @ OEJ Tue 4/30 - Iration, Pepper, Fortunate Youth & Katastro @ Joy Sun 5/05 - New Mastersounds @ 1:00am @ House of Blues Sun 5/05 - Jim James with Amo Amo

Thanks Esteban, good stuff. looks like Jim James got added, MMJ one of my favorites, would be interesting if he could do some collaborations on stage.
As of now, me and Mrs. Blotter are bailing on a good bit of fest to save money/make room for other shows.
Gonna catch of Montreal in Pcola first thurs then drive over for fest>JRAD Fri then drive home. There's a chance I'll come back for CAN but not likely, which is weak.
Back Weds for FOF, head home, maybe catch a ride with Longinus for Stones> SCI/CLD then bus home or who knows what. Def don't see myself catching Bastard Jazz unfortunately but I'm sure it'll get taped by multiple people.
Prodigy during Daze After is really a top priority now, still in shock they are playing the Orpheum.
Figured it was worth noting that more late late shows are starting to come out. Kamasi Washington at the Joy on May 4th (technically the 5th) at 2am is a must-see for me.

Yeah I saw that. Last year he did 6 shows - 2 a night - one weekend at One Eyed Jacks. I think he may have done a couple the year before. So it’s good to have him back. Many of the worlds’ great musicians are in town for at least some of the days, and it’s awesome that he’s now recognized to the point that it looks like he will be a regular. Marc Brownstein of Disco Biscuits too. I’m going to do whatever I can to get to that Sunday Star Kitchen show.
Clessi's opened up on Bienville near City Park Ave. so probably 5-7 minute drive from where you are staying. It'll probably be hit during JF, so you might want to post up near opening time. Of course Rouse's boils decent crawfish right there at the store on N. Carrollton which is also only about 5 minutes from Fair Grounds locale. But Clessi's is better. Bevi is right there too as I think I told you in an earlier post.
I’d like a fried soft shell crab poboy sandwich too.
And LOTS of Bloody Marys.
Lots and lots of bloody Mary's. Parkway Bakery (bar) has pretty good ones there. It's right bayou (heh but yeah, a block from Bayou St. John). I don't think they'll have soft-shell crab po-boys. That's more of a summer thing (crab season), but they can make them molt whenever they want to now, so I'm sure there will be some around. I rarely eat soft-shell crabs, though I do like them. If they're in season, you can get them at Mandina's on Canal Street in Mid-City. Sunday is the only day they do a weird menu, but you can get po-boys from there every other day. You can call in and do take out or dine in there. Mandina's isn't all that, but they can fry seafood with the best of them.
I was trying to think of who else has soft-shell crab po-boys on a regular basis. Mahony's doesn't. Fury's has a couple of plate lunches, but they don't show it as a po-boy.
Acme does have them. That's going to be an extreme cluster**** during Jazz Fest at their French Quarter location. However, you can call in an order (or dine in) to the Metairie location. Also, you can eat the bar there if it's otherwise packed.
Galley has soft shell crab poboys at the Fest obviously, and I'm pretty sure they have them regularly over on Metry Road. You could knock out crawfish while you're there.
Jazz Fest has announced some additions to the festival lineup:
John Prine Aloe Blacc Bleachers PJ Morton Corey Henry & Treme Funktet Dja Rara Sarah Quintana Paula & The Pontiacs Kumbuka African Drum & Dance Collective
Some newer night shows since I haven't been focused on Jazz Fest that much lately. Shows are about at 65-70% announced, so there should still be another 75-100 to be announced.

I saw last year's J.E.D.I. version and it was pretty stellar.
Star Kitchen Adds Members of Soulive, The Disco Biscuits, Turkuaz & More To NOLA Lineup
Star Kitchen, the exciting new outfit from bassist Marc Brownstein (The Disco Biscuits), has announced the special guests for their upcoming late-night show at The Maison during this year’s New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival on Sunday, April 28th. For their NOLA late-night, the nascent band—which also features Danny Mayer (Eric Krasno Band), Rob Marscher (Jennifer Hartswick Band/Matisyahu), and Marlon Lewis (Lauryn Hill/John Legend)—will welcome keyboardist and fellow Disco Biscuits member Aron Magner as well as a slew of Jazz Fest late-night stalwarts: guitarist Eric Krasno (Soulive/Lettuce), vocalist Shira Elias (Turkuaz), and saxophonist Khris Royal (Rebelution).
Krasno needs no introduction to Jazz Fest audiences, having wowed crowds for years with his many appearances with Lettuce and Soulive, as well as the countless one-off shows and supergroups that he has been a part of and helped to create, such as his annual show with the Daze Between Band. Krasno has sat in with Star Kitchen on two previous occasions—at Brooklyn Bowl and on Jam Cruise.
The addition of Aron Magner, Brownstein’s long-time musical partner-in-crime, will surely excite fans of the Disco Biscuits that are making the trek to New Orleans. With the Disco Biscuits coming to New Orleans for the first time in over a decade during this year’s Jazz Fest, fans will have one more chance to catch the duo together when Magner brings his keyboard-wizardry to The Maison with Star Kitchen.
Shira Elias has become one of the most reliable show-stoppers in live music. While you can typically find her on tour with the power-funk outfit Turkuaz, Elias has made a name for herself in her own right, proving herself as a bandleader at Brooklyn Comes Alive with her ‘Soul Tracks’ set as well as at the February edition of Denver, CO’s The Funk Sessions. Her powerful voice and commanding stage presence set her apart, and make her the perfect fit to add vocals to Star Kitchen’s funk instrumentals.
Khris Royal’s New Orleans roots run deep. The Crescent City native has played and recorded with a litany of legends, such as Christian Scott, Branford Marsalis, Mary J. Blige, Lettuce, and Erykah Badu, to name a few, while he performs regularly with NOLA icons such as Zigaboo Modeliste, Fred Wesley, Galactic, and more. Royal is a long-running member of George Porter Jr & the Runnin’ Pardners, as well as a touring member of the reggae rock band, Rebelution.
Tickets to Star Kitchen at The Maison with special guests Eric Krasno, Aron Magner, Shira Elias & Khris Royal are now on sale via Eventbrite.
