Fleetwood Mac have canceled the remainder of their North American tour, including an appearance at New Orleans Jazz Fest, due to singer Stevie Nicks’ bout with the flu.
Wow. Day is cursed.
It is like Karma for trying to make Local's Thursday the first Thursday (a new additional day); for 50 years it wasn't broken.
Playing NOLA later that month. Plus he books his tours around his young daughter's custody schedule with Heather Mills.
I like the idea of booking Green Day doing full Dookie and maybe another album. Make up for cancelling Voodoo several years ago and they haven't played the state since 2009. Plus they are free and can whip together a set on short notice.

Yep. Expect those SEC university flags to be flying. It’s also back to Locals Thursday pricing, so to get in for that day is 50.00. I may try to go that day and see Panic before heading out to String Cheese Incident night 1 of 3) that night.
I agree and disagree. Obviously The Rolling Stones was their top target, and they are pretty much the only American festival that could get them in recent times. But the tickets were like 185 plus fees to about 203 or so. When Mick had to have heart surgery, thy brought in Fleetwood Mac. Again, they may be the only American festival that can pull them in in less than a month. But they dropped tickets to 75 and made it a regular day. Now it’s a 50.00 locals Thursday day. Being someone who was close to ecstatic with the Stones and fine with FM, Panic for 50 ain’t bad with everything else that day & makes it more than worth the price. So yeah, it’s a drop and a drop. But it’s probably a better value at 50 for Panic than 200 for the Stones.

Stones played Summerfest in 2015.
They did and will continue to have that claim. 4 years is recent but 5 lineups ago so I should have said recent cycle instead of times. I’m disappointed to miss them. If we get a makeup show, I’d definitely try to get tickets. Edit to say I got my refund last night, so I'm glad for that.

This is the issue to begin with though. They fucked with the formula, tried to do something epic regardless of years of precedent an it blew up in their faces. Twice. I get why, but fuck man, what a mess it turned into.

Panic is a decent enough act (stature wise) to close acura on Thursday, but certainly not going to get me over there. In a two hour set, is the over/under on number of songs to be played at 8? Pass. I'll take Ziggy and Mavis for $50.

LOL. But who goes to Panic to hear songs in a song-like format? One of their main points is to stretch things out and work with their music. There are plenty of major acts that just play their hit songs. I'm not usually wanting that from a major jam band. In other words, I could care less if they play 15 songs or 3 in that two hour span. I'm there to watch them play, but that's just me.

Esteban has the right idea. It's by no means an upgrade (unless if you're a huge Panic fan), but it's not a bad idea either. It's not like Panic hasn't played the Jazz Fest multiple times before.
Although I'm not a huge fan myself, I recognize that Widespread Panic is one of the biggest jam bands in the scene - and there's a reason for that: Jimmy Herring is probably one of the best guitarists currently alive.
Again, that's a very high level overview. Rolling Stones were for $203. Widespread Panic is for $50. That's 1/4 of the price and a fair deal for everyone considering the circumstances. The way I look at the schedule, for $50.00 I'm getting Panic (which is worth about 50 anyway) a chance to split off for some or both of Mavis Staples or Ziggy Marley, then The Tin Men, Anders Osborne, Egg Yolk Jubilee (who are my friends), Samantha Fish, Dumpstaphunk, a half hour of Rita Coolidge and then Widespread Panic. That's worth more than $50.00 to me, and I plan to be there that day if I'm back in town from Panama City Beach. If not, I'll just go Friday and see Susan Cowsill, Kamasi Washington and Gary Clark Jr. or Saturday and see Soul Rebels, Hot 8, New Birth, Galactic, Jupiter & Okwess and then split Gerald Albright & Jonathan Butler and John Prine.

I think the bigger issue is that they had to refund the tickets for the Rolling Stones, then again refund for Fleetwood Mac, just to sit back at the local's Thursday pricing. If I had bought tickets, airfare, and lodging and all that happened, I would NOT be happy.
Yeah, but you can't reasonably blame Jazz Fest because Stevie Nicks is sick or because Mick Jagger had to have heart surgery. I mean I guess you could in saying that old rock BNA's are getting up in age at this point. And while it would suck to have spent all that money on airfare and lodging, everyone knows the Stones are Septuagenarians and haven't exactly lived exemplary lifestyles. Shit happens IMHO which is why I never bitched about it - just said I was disappointed that I wouldn't get to see them. I also don't care that they messed with the days. They were trying to hit that homerun for the 50th Anniversary. I was okay with that play enough to have bought 3 tickets. I got my money back, so I didn't lose anything.
What all are you looking at that weekend? I’m on that 3 night SCI run and Claypools bastard Jazz 2am. We will probably go see the 2/3 am Break Science show because everybody we know digs them and they rule overnight and will probably have all of lettuce on stage too. cmack hit me up and wanted to do String Cheese and Pigeons, so I got my fingers crossed we get to hang . I don’t know about days that weekend yet.
Oh and in damn what might have been, I had to distribute Disco Biscuits tickets. It was the third envelope I got to. The Prodigy was first, and Rolling Stones was second. Haha. Kinda sucks to not get to have seen those two shows to round out those couple weeks.
We're going out tonight (Menert/Exmag), tomorrow and Saturday nights (Disco Biscuits). I haven't looked at 2am options yet, so I need to check into that if it's something I'm going to end up doing. Might hit Sunday to see Indigo Girls, The O'Jays and Van Morrison, but IDK yet.
Both Michal Menert (did some Pretty Lights and Pretty Fantastics) and Exmag kicked some ass last night. The night went way longer than it was supposed to for me, so it's going to be a short work day. Shout out to VC and Druid for running into you guys last night. Wish I was going to Jazz Fest today as I'd probably see Santana, E-Collective, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Foundation of Funk, Dirty Dozen and Robert Cray Band. However, I have to work. So it's going to be Disco Biscuits and Tauk tonight to do it all over again.
Ill be passing through the 2nd week and am contemplating some nights sbows. Cheese w Pigeons seems like a no brainer.
It was for me. But there's over 300 night and late night shows that weekend. Plan for me on Friday is to go see Les Claypool's Bastard Jazz after String Cheese. However, this year's verson of J.E.D.I. is kind of over the top:
