Fucking right. I'll pay whatever it costs to go that day. IDGAF. When are the Stones playing Jazz Fest again in their lifetimes or even mine? Hahaha.
Jazz Fest is looking like it's going to rule. And with the unaffiliated night shows starting to trickle in, it's possibly going into extreme/A+ territory like we don't see much anymore with festivals.

I could see Beck being a crossover. Maybe Tears For Fears? Incubus seems more Voodoo type, but they would draw a crowd. Foals is a great rock band but more Voodoo type as well.
Wanee cancelling has really opened the door for me to go hard this year. Def gonna be broke af after this. Gonna start saving now. Realistically I'm just gonna blow my tax refund on JF.
The capped tickets thing is interesting. I can't imagine how pissed I would be if I got shut out on a fn JF ticket lol
IDK. Buku might book Tame because they cross over genres among the younger set.
If there were going to be some from the first few lines (some may have upcoming shows):
Beck - Played Jazz Fest 2018 so he's out
Cage - Played Jazz Fest 2018 so they're out
Incubus - Maybe, probably not
Tears for Fears - Possibly
Gary Clark Jr. - Definitely in (playing with Foundation of Funk at a night show)
Father John Misty - Maybe?
Tash Sultana - Maybe, possibly Buku either way
As for farther down, Wallows & Caamp just played Voodoo so probably not and Black Lips have a show coming up.
Black Lips are playing two shows in the Spring in ATL and then heading back for SK, I would not rule them out. Hoping that Interpol comes to NOLA either on tour or at JazzFest. There are a few bands on SK that I would love to come to NOLA during JazzFest.
I was updating my show baw on the new info with 2nd thurs and he had an awesome thought.
What if they got a special permit/exemption and got to keep going past 7pm? Have a BNA in the normal headliner spot and then Stones at 7pm. That would be insane. Not likely but fun to speculate about.
Could be like a Desert Trip day at the Fairgrounds.
Glad I went to Dallas during the Zip Code Tour to see the Stones. I'm good on that. Got Disco Biscuits tix for both nights. Not sure if I'll pull the trigger on SCI yet. Probably will wait it all out at this point. I'm sure I'll be at Fest first Saturday and maybe Sunday.

It's possible I guess. They're pretty entertaining anyway, so it would be cool if they were there. I guess they'd be early afternoon Gentilly if they were added. UncleBuckDabs on JFF, in a post he calls "Sewage and Water Board Leakage"
Rolling Stones
Dave Matthews Band (new album coming out)
Jimmy Buffett (probably would be here anyway if he wasn't playing to sit in with people)
Widespread Panic (plays every 2-3 years and last was 2017)
Santana (we speculated on that)
Bob Seger (we also speculated on that)
There's nothing particularly earth-shattering beyond the Stones, but I'd probably go see Panic the day they play if he's right.
Saw The Stones in Orlando on the Zip Code tour and they blew away my expectations big time. Would love to be able to dance and rage out not stuck in a stadium seat.
People on JF forum saying tix gonna be $175 for this. ouch! I'll pay it. Whatever. I paid over $100 to see just them in the nosebleeds 3 years ago. I'll be able to post up directly behind a relay tour and get my eardrums blown out, it'll be badass.
I bet Tame Impala closes out Gentilly one day 2nd weekend before or after Shaky Knees. I'll be there.
As of now looks like I'll be doing all of 2nd weekend but will be picking and choosing first weekend, obv depending on lineup. Would want to see WSP first weekend but being a thurs that's an extra two days off work so I dunno. Will plan on doing as much actual fest as possible as the vibe will be great for bands and attendees with the anniversary.
Late shows gonna be rough as they keep getting more and more expensive. It's like $50 a pop for a lot now. Since I'm in nola all the time I want to see the cool shit that skips playing there the rest of the year too. 2019 is the year I see JRAD finally.
I flipped my JRAD tickets last time I had them. I saw a few minutes at Waka 15 and have seen them on streams. They should be fun at MGW. Not a chance I'm missing a second of Disco Biscuits that weekend though. Now I just have to decide if I'm doing all 3 days of String Cheese on second weekend or just the Mardi Gras World shows and skip the one in the CBD on Friday. It's almost kind of an anticlimactic letdown knowing the weekend shows I'll be attending before 98% of the shows those nights have been announced. I usually like to rank shit and then replace as new stuff comes out. With Biscuits shows being "doors at 10", they're probably going to do 2 sets each night with the standard 40 minute break and go to 1:45-2:00am. If there is some good late night jam at the Republic (e.g. Spafford, Mugnion or whatever), I'll just walk there afterwards.

Haha yeah I was just talking about that w/Kelly. She's not going to DBs and isn't much into SCI so I'm not pulling the trigger on second weekend just yet. But yeah, I could probably just go ahead and get SCI tix too and be set before basically knowing anything else coming out. Never seen either in NO.

I caught Cheese at Jazz Fest back in 2014. They did a tear-jerking cover of Curtis Mayfield & The Impressions' People Get Ready with the Blind Boys of Alabama starting off a capella.
^^ Winter Circle passwords never seem to work for me. But that's what they sent.
This is what it says:

Black Star being put out there as a rumor for weekend 1 night show. If that is the case, we will have to figure out how to do both the Disco Biscuits and Black Star. It’s workable I guess if they are at Howlin Wolf and play an early show or on Sunday.

If Black Star is playing here in Nola, I'll be there
Yeah. It would suck to miss that but maybe best case they do a Fest show as well as a night show? I’m not missing Biscuits who I’ve never seen. I did see Black Star at Bonnaroo 2012 and Kweli maybe 4 or 5 times with other people. But it’s a show I’d want to see.

I know you're more into the jamtronica than I, but I feel you're greatly overvaluing the Biscuits....and I like the Biscuits.

Haha. No way. They have been near the top of my wishlist since I first saw Conspirator. They don’t play down here. We probably watched 40 shows on their channel in the last few years. We all want it. Parlayed those with April Tribe run tickets for Xmas presents for my kids. Everyone is happy about this. You probably should bust out that 20 hour drive. \m/

I get that if you haven't seen them.
I've wanted to do Jazz Fest for years. The late shows are my style. Lineup is always my style. Just have to talk Shell into leaving the little guy with grandma for the trip and spending the money it would take to get there. We've driven to Hangout twice, Orlando twice and I've driven everywhere on the East Coast for shows but I think we'd fly down if I can somehow talk her into it.
I'm most looking forward to that Foundation of Funk w/ Gary Clark Jr. show that's happening at the Orpheum. Really interested to hear a blues oriented guitar players take on those songs. Jimmy Herring was great last time, and def less noodley than Leo has been lately. Would love to see a FoF show with June Yamagishi on lead. He's the man.
I'll buy a ticket to that as soon as it's announced as Meters is and will always be our top priority in nola.
Everything else though I'm waiting on. 6 months out for f'n late night fest shows is a little silly. Def staying second weekend and will make a JRAD show happen. We tried two years ago or whatever but it was still at the Joy and we weren't down to waste time with 100 wooks also looking for tickets out there so we went to Axial Tilt @ Café Istanbul in the Bywater.
That place is really fn cool, would def go back to another show there that wasn't a dead cover band lol. Donna Jean and Charles Neville played that show, it was way better than we expected.
I would like to see Bisco but I more so want to check out the Fillmore. I haven't seen them since Roo '10. I really liked that NYE videogame set they just did. Some lower tier jam band did a similar concept for Halloween. Aqueous maybe? Setlist looked cool.
That Roo' 10 Bisco show was extra memorable because I walked in with a camelback full of chargers and was steady pulling myself balloons the whole show. Bisco people were spidey sensing it and flocking to me desperately begging for them. People offering me $20 for a single charger. How can you say no to that?

Yeah, I posted that in "upcoming shows" thread. It's 99% a lock now. Keith Speara mentioned the "Strolling Bones" in an article today. I also got a text from a usually trusted source of other night acts, but it's basically the stuff we already mentioned and is a recap of a couple of threads off Jazz Fest Forum that are in a post from page 1. Disco Biscuits (confirmed), Duo w/ Gordon, Vida Blue, St. Paul & BB, Black Star, Khruangbin, Phil & TFB, Claypool-Lennon then second weekend of Daze Between Band (always confirmed), SCI (Confirmed), Bobby & Wolf Bros, Snarky Puppy, Karl D Plays Respect (confirmed I think) FoF w/ Gary Clark Jr. (rumored everywhere). Along with the Stones, DMB seems pretty likely as there's more and more people on that train.

any indication DMB would be the second weekend as well?
I'm not sure. Dave & Tim played last year, so I wouldn't say it was 100%. But DMB plays every few years and has a pretty large fan base here. With a new album due out, it's almost but not quite a slam dunk. It would be nice to get a few more leaks out, but the only day we know they're probably not playing (unless they're one of the opening acts for the Stones) is Thursday, May 2. It's theoretically possible that they could headline the Gentilly Stage simultaneously with The Rolling Stones, but you'd think that JF would probably give them either first Sunday or second Saturday due to Trombone Shorty closing down the fest (2nd Sunday).
This is all hypothetical, as there are usually 3 contemporary (rock, rap) acts closing the festival each day - Acura/Main Stage, Gentilly Stage and Congo Square - along with big name Jazz, Gospel and Blues artists in their respective tents. But if we have these as the headliners, I don't know that outside of the Stones playing that second Thursday, it's quantifiable yet as to who plays what dates as there is no real formula for who plays when.
Somewhat Likely List of Headliners
Rolling Stones (second Thursday) Dave Matthews Band Bob Seger and Silver Bullet Band Widespread Panic (First Thursday or First or Second Saturday ? ? ?) Phish (could be any close spot) Santana Jimmy Buffett (probably a Saturday or "close" last day Sunday before Shorty)
Black Star, Frankie Beverly & Maze or whomever they get from rap and most R&B/soul acts would close out the Congo Square Stage.
What I do think is likely gocats, is that they will release the by-days in January since the lineup is coming out in December. Also they will probably release the actual schedule in March.
So not that this really means anything, but I saw and have heard U2 on the rumor list for JazzFest. Bono at the last show of the current tour they are on, told the crowd, Goodbye for awhile now. I don't know if it is significant but the way it was said made it sound like they are taking a hiatus from touring.

Yeah. I heard they were sent an offer, but it was at least 3rd or 4th hand. Whether or not it happened, I don't know.
Joe Russo's Almost Dead (1st weekend) goes on sale today.
To get into the small Cheese show @ The Orpheum, you have to buy all 3 days. I got the 3 night floor pass for $203.05. So Thursday, May 2, I know I will be seeing The Rolling Stones and an intimate String Cheese Incident show. Who knows what all else will be happening that day. But it's sure gonna be a good one!
