Am I thinking correctly that if I decide to go GA and plan to go all days, the Brass Pass (plus an additional GA ticket for the Stones' Thursday) is probably the most cost efficient? Plus I'd get reentry privileges too?
Here is a link with Brass Pass info: www.wwoz.org/brass-pass-how-we-do-jazz-fest To answer your question though, yes, I think that's the most cost effective way to go all days.
Yeah, I was looking at that. Seems like a decent deal for what you get versus $70/day for GA each day anyway.
Brass Pass is the way to go if you are going to go all days. The only thing with it this year and that the second Thursday, Rolling Stones rumored day, is NOT included this year. The first Thursday, which is new, is included. So you would still have to buy a ticket for the second Thursday.

i haven't done brass pass in about five years, but if the benefits are the same we always enjoyed it. the wwoz tent was sweet, tons of delicious fresh fruit, a few clean portos, and the best part: all the cafe au lait you can drink. the only downside is it's not in a super convenient area, you have to make a dedicated trip to it which you won't do if you are parked at one of the stages already.

You also get free mango freezes!!! They are my most favorite thing at JazzFest.

Another thing to add since you're from Los Angeles and food is celebrated there as well is that if you eat early or late each day, you won't see any lines. This is particularly true for Thursday and usually Friday which are the least attended days because a lot of people still have to work. But the food at JF is the overall best I've eaten at any festival*. I've had some good stuff at food trucks at Suwanee, Hangout, Bonnaroo and obviously the other local festivals. But there is a giant selection (probably over 60 vendors) of local shit, a lot of which will be great. Once they release the vendors in a couple months, I'll post something on that.
*It's not going to be gourmet, chef-inspired stuff like you'd find at Kaaboo Del Mar. But it's all from the soul kind of shit. You won't be disappointed.

That sounds amazing. I've got southern roots (originally from Memphis) and I'm always ready to get down on some good cajun food! NOLA is one of my favorite food cities.
Honestly I think I'm gonna be better off going Brass Pass/GA - just can't justify that increased expense. Especially if Brass Pass also includes it's own area and the reentry stuff, totally worth it. I'm always a 'hang out in the back of the lawn with a beer' kinda guy with most shows anyway.

so kaaboo texas was supposed to be announced on the 15th but then changed to the 16th for some reason after their initial tweet. wonder if the day delay was due to shared headliner with jazz fest?
Brecker Brothers and friends are on 2nd Sunday at 10:00 at Cafe Istanbul.
Yngwie Malmsteen is first Thursday at HoB
Golden Gate Wingmen with John Kadlecik, Jeff Chimenti, Reed Mathis & Jay Lane (Dead & Co., Furthur, etc.) 1:30am first Thursday and 1:30am first Sunday at Cafe Istanbul.
We still on to get this tomorrow? Surprised so little discussion if so? What time of day do they normally drop and do the cubes (schedule) come later?
Not sure what else can be said. Princess Corona probably hit on most of the biggest names (or at least some of them). But there's literally nothing much out there at the moment that I can find, and outside of the O.G. Rolling Stones source from last year which was only in PM. Maybe someone connected around here can throw something unique out. Otherwise, 11:00am tomorrow it is.
Tricky Financially? $15.00 of gas to drive from Mobile and back. $75 ticket. $20.00 food. You rich accountants can afford that.
I think most of the big names have already been speculated. What I'm most interested in is:
1) What do they do second Thursday with the Rolling Stones both as far as number of stages and performers? 2) What rap acts are closing Congo Square, and will it be something I want to see? Also, if Black Star is getting a night show, do they get a fest set? 3) Are there any actually great headliners (can be Gentilly Stage or Acura) that are off the radar? Do they take a chance with Greta Van Fleet or do they wait another year or two before bringing them in?
Based on most of the speculation I've read around the web, Santana, Rolling Stones, Bob Seger, Taylor Swift and DMB are all somewhat reasonable guesses. I'd like to see Gilmour, U2 or some more random shit on there. We'll see.

Closers - most likely Gentilly - that are not HUGE would be Gary Clark Jr, Revivalists, Kacey Musgraves, do they do Vampire Weekend? Arcade Fire w Pres Hall? I don't feel like they do GVF.

It still might be too early for them, though they'll be booked eventually. Revivalists subhl'd for Cage the Elephant last year. They'll probably get a spot because they're local, but IDK if JF would bump them up to stage closer. Maybe? 15 minutes and nothing leaked anywhere that I can find.
Damnit. I have the live video up and it's just people shooting photos and walking around looking at shit they won't show me. Fnahmf. It's 11. Spit the shit out. Ellis just sat down on the piano, so...
OG people who played 1st JF. James Rivers, Johny V, Germaine Bazzle, Ellis Marsailis as Jazz Fest All Stars. Come on 50 years anniversary. Give it to me! Covering Don't mean a thing, if it ain't got that swing. Count Basie I think, but I could be wrong.
Now blues - Little Freddie King and a bunch of blues people who played first year (and noted Ronnie Cole who also did who will be up there in a bit). Fuck. This is cool and all, but spit out the damn lineup!
