Not for nothing, a few Firefly acts like Vampire Weekend, Courtney Barnett, UMO, and Car Seat Headrest would make this fest worth flying to in my mind.
The only band I probably wouldn't see is tennis. I'm also a little burned out on Phoenix but I'd still go
To me this makes less sense than Tennis being someone's favorite band. What's so offensive about Tennis that they would be the only band on a lineup that you would skip?
Because I dont like them? Do you regularly go watch bands that you don't like? There are only a couple of bands on here I don't know, so I'm not sure if Id like them yet, but I know for sure that I don't like tennis
Throw in The Presets, Cut Copy and The Strokes and this entire line up is my college playlist. Really considering picking up a ticket and figuring out everything else later.
Now we’re talking. Replace The Strokes with LCD Soundsystem, add Hot Chip, CSS, !!!, Klaxons (are they still together?), MIA, Friendly Fires and a Late of the Pier reunion to that list. Move some acts from day one and you got a two day fest right there.

And honestly, there is enough left out of this line up to do the same type of festival next year with Hot Chip, LCD, CSS and more. Good move by GV. I'm almost sold on going because I really want to see that Rapture reunion. Missed them while they were still together.
Car seat Headrest has got to be one of the worst band names ever.

Pretty damn pumped about this. I mentioned the Coachella thread, but the reason I'm really disappointed with that lineup is that in the "How many acts on this lineup would I pay $64 to see play a solo show?" test (that's the price of a good ticket to a Hollywood Bowl show) my answer is TWO. On this lineup alone I HAVE spent $64+ on a ticket for four of these acts, plus I'll get a chance to see The Rapture, She Wants Revenge, Ra Ra Riot, etc. that I wouldn't have thought at all about seeing this year, but had they been on Coachella's lineup I would have thought "Holy shit!"
All for $99, this is a damn easy call to drive down that day.
Yeah, I already know a few groups planning on coming out of state for this. Venue isn't as large as people think it is and the fact that they have a no catch payment plan makes this really easy to go to. I'll be up early to get a few tickets for my group.

Yeah, people flying in for this is kinda wild to me. With the exception of The Rapture, who aren't even one of the more popular names on the poster, these aren't exactly rare acts. Yeah Yeah Yeahs can be a bit sporadic with touring, but even they've shown up to multiple random SoCal festivals recently.

What do you estimate the capacity to be?
I can't find the numbers for the park, but all three of these fests sold out at the location. It's been hosting small festivals pretty often now that are well attended because Long Beach is just a perfect location.

Living in the LA area (Long Beach to be specific) is a blessing and I'm glad I don't really have to travel for fests, but yeah if I lived far, I probably wouldn't make it out for this. Like Phoenix/Vegas road trip worthy yeah, but not cross country flight. Unless you just have the money and time like that lol.
Queen Mary Park isn't small by any means but it's not huge either. I don't expect this to sell as quickly as Smokin Grooves/Tropicalia/Summertime in the LBC just because those 3 line ups had more mass appeal than Just Like Heaven which is more of a niche. It'll sell out, just not as quickly as those other 3.

That's exactly it, how often do you think YYY have popped up in Dallas, which is probably the 5-6 largest market in the country? For those of us not on the coasts we miss tons of this shit.
I’ve had numerous opportunities to see all these bands fwiw. I definitely wouldn’t travel to this, but wouldn’t miss it if I were in the area. Think over the years I’ve just grown accustom to traveling for bands I really want to see anyways (mostly cause DFW crowds are terrible), but with only a few exceptions here this lineup has made the rounds for the most part.
Dunno what really ignited the argument above btw, but this festival doesn’t scream ATDI at all.

Should have been more specific in stating that I hope this carries on next year with a similar bill/reunion and Whitest Boy is at the top of my list. This lineup + The Rapture is a huge sell to me as it stands though. I mostly just appreciate that GV hasn’t gone full on 13 Reasons Why and found a way to still utilize all of this talent.

Speaking of TVOTR, I quickly started jotting down a list yesterday of potential bands to fill another lineup:
Cut copy Whitest boy alive Yeasayer !!! Metronomy LCD Bag Raiders Animal Collective Dirty Projectors Panda Bear Deerhunter Temper Trap Broken Social Scene Broken Bells Hot Chip Interpol TV on the Radio
