Not sure you should have expected anything but crickets. I don’t think anyone here has that answer. I’d say that was unlikely, but they used to have like 8 stages in the past. Most of them would be local acts which doesn’t bother me because it would better fill in the gaps. I’d go see Rebirth or Bingo Show or whatever, but C3 already said that’s not their model. They have it to 60k or so per day. Seems like the way they opted to experiment with it this year was to gear Sunday to a super young crowd - younger than Buku that’s for sure. Generally festivals need new blood over time, and you have to get new attendees interested by appealing to them. Could they go back to a mostly alternative format to pull that off? I don’t know. And not knowing what their target is makes it impossible to guess. Do they want it at 65k/day? 70? 75?
In the end, if they would have just been able to put Bassnectar on Sunday, it would be massively more appealing to me. Put Rezz up vs Beck and I can close Saturday with Beck and at least have something to look forward to on Sunday.

I was literally praying that they wouldn't have Beck and Nectar on the same day.. Shit, even Beck on Sunday would've made me jolly.. Voodoo is going to be an absolute blast as always, but damn that Sunday lineup isnt my taste at all. Only 2 I really "want" to see are Opiuo (which ive seen but will still see again) and BMTH, which conflict with Opiuo
Wristbands are coming in. Got mine today which was a nice present to come home too from ACL.
Starting to finally feel a little like Voodoo weather down here.. Also starting to get excited for one of my favorite weekends of the year.. time to get these costumes figured out

Haha. I was thinking about costumes yesterday. Idk if I'm going to do anything this year or not. Halloween will be Saturday next year, so I'll definitely dress up for that one. I usually do a day in an off-color costume and may yet since we've got 3 weeks. I want to be excited, but that mf'n Sunday.
Maybe I missed some of the news but I know that Iglooghost had dropped out. He got replaced by Ilo Ilo which sounded pretty wimpy when I pulled it up. What looks new to me, and I had no idea what it was, is Michigander. But then I looked them up, and it appears to be indie-alternative. It's not terrible.
Here's an article form Pollstar discussing what the House of Blues thing is:
When Voodoo Music + Arts Experience returns to New Orleans' City Park Oct. 25-27, the massive event, staged by Live Nation and C3 Presents, will offer attendees a new attraction away from the main stage.
In a union that could have ramifications for Live Nation's broader festival portfolio, Voodoo Fest will now feature a House of Blues outpost, in collaboration with the entertainment giant's clubs and theaters division.
The area, comprised of a 40-by-60-foot tent and a similarly sized outdoor area, will offer Voodoo Fest patrons elevated food and beverages, intimate performances and – maybe – interaction with some of their favorite artists.
"We've all gone to festivals," Live Nation president of clubs and theaters Ron Bension tells Pollstar. "You just look for a place: 'I want to chill out.' There's not a lot of that. We think you can both be chilled and entertained at the same time, and that's what we're trying to do."
It's a match that makes sense for House of Blues, which built one of its earliest operations in The Big Easy's French Quarter and has "always had a small presence at the Voodoo Fest, but nothing on the scale we're talking about now," according to Bension.
"Voodoo Festival, it's just a perfect fit for us," he says. "It fits our Southern roots vibe. We're very much at home in New Orleans, and it's a great way for people to experience the House of Blues in a way that they've never been able to do before – and also, I think, to provide the Voodoo audience something that's unique and different."
Heightened concessions will be a centerpiece of House of Blues Voodoo, with a food menu that includes brisket sliders, po' boy sandwiches, Voodoo shrimp and Impossible burgers, and speciality-batch cocktails such as margaritas and punches.
"Most festivals, typically the food and beverage is in a white tent with a paper sign, and you get your food," Bension says. "We didn't want to do that."
From Impossible burgers to craft cocktails, the food and beverage offerings draw directly on the items that Bension and his team have found most popular among fans attending their clubs.
"Hopefully, you'll be able to get familiar drinks that are all batched up and ready to go and nice and cool and tasty on what I'm sure will be a hot and humid day in New Orleans," he says.
But, sequestered away from the main food and beverage drag, House of Blues Voodoo won't be presented as just another dining option for attendees. Explains Bension: "We really wanted it to be an oasis."
While headliners Guns N' Roses, Post Malone and Beck rock the main stage, House of Blues Voodoo will also offer visitors smaller-scale music programming, with artists playing from the late afternoon on and DJs keeping the party going late into the night. Bension even suggests that artists might do press events or meet-and-greets at the tent.
As the festival sphere continues to evolve, with many events embracing experiential aspects that extend beyond the performers on stage, Bension sees House of Blues Voodoo – and unions between Live Nation's festivals and clubs and theaters divisions, generally – as a way forward.
"We think it's a fit in many festivals throughout the country, which we're continuing to look at and explore as we gain some experience," says Bension, adding that similar partnerships could be introduced at other Live Nation festivals as early as next year.
"Live Nation can bring to bear some of the unique assets it has to raise the level of the visitor," he says.
In a sense, these partnerships have been a long time coming. Live Nation may have separate divisions, Bension explains, but they've long worked collaboratively. For instance, the clubs and theaters division has often assisted the festivals division with booking, because the former often has stronger relationships with smaller acts.
For now, though, Live Nation and Voodoo are focused on House of Blues Voodoo.
"We feel that people will find this as a destination and an oasis to get away from the hubbub and chill out for a while and relax and listen to some great music," Bension says. "We've created an indoor/outdoor space that we think carries the House of Blues vibe into the Voodoo Festival."
Well, saw someone posted the forecast and looks like rain on Friday. Shit. Get the boots ready.
It needed to wait until Saturday night. Haha. It's going to be close as far as whether there are any serious effects to City Park. As of now, GFS is backing off a little with the severe stuff south of the city. What it looks like on the mesoscale models is that a warm front will be coming out of the gulf and a cold front off an upper low coming down/through either late Thursday or early Friday. Should make for a muddy but not unbearable park. This could change obviously, but I wear Converses so I don't really give a **** if it rains or not. Other people may disagree with that.
For now, it looks like the highs will be in the low 70's Friday, Saturday and Sunday. So that'll be welcome fall air though a little nippier than it's been here in a while.
I'm waiting for them to drop the Forked Up Food Court to see what they'll have this year and will post that with whatever I know that's on it once I see it. I'll also post my final anticipated schedule Thursday. For now, i was thinking back to all the Voodoos I ever went to and what might have been my favorite shows from each of those years:
2010 - Street Sweeper Social Club then Ozzy 2011 - Soundgarden then Snoop Dog, OFWGKTA 2012 - Neil Young & Crazy Horse/Metallica 2013 - Pearl Jam then Nine Inch Nails 2014 - Slayer then Foo Fighters and Outkast (then Arctic Monkeys and John Butler Trio) 2015 - Jane's Addiction (then Ozzy & Friends, Florence & The Machine) 2016 - Claypool Lennon Delirium (then Puscifer) 2017 - Prophets of Rage pre-show (then Prophets of Rage, Foo Fighters, Kendrick Lamar) 2018 - Tipper (then A Perfect Circle)
So pumped for the return to Voodoo this week! 3 different sets of friends will all be in attendance (including my brother), good times coming. I spend a ton of time dancing at le plur most of the weekend, but these are some other highlights.
Friday turns out to be my lightest day, but still has some cool stuff. Grandson, Moon Taxi, and Brandi should all be good. Not loving the 7:00 selections, but hopefully one of them will be fun. Guns N Roses will be epic again. Surprised the hell out of me at Coachella 3 years ago. I have never been much of a fan and wasn't expecting anything (showed up late), but they freaking rocked. That day was also the first time I ever partied with someone who turned into a really good friend. That friend just died earlier this year (first person close to me I have ever lost), so will be an emotional "Civil War" for sure. I should be wearing Red, ALL red.
Saturday has one of the most epic live runs ever for my tastes. Good stuff all afternoon. Then: Young the Giant ('My Body' SLAYS live) Jai Wolf (killed yet again at Moonrise, so sorry to have to miss the 'Indian Summer' closer to run to Main stage) The National (my #1 set from Bonnaroo this year. Left the pit of Odesza, who I love, for the National pit...no regrets. Their newest album 'I am easy to find' gets my vote for album of the year). Zhu/Glitch (both pretty good, but the one time to regroup) to one of the worst conflicts I have had. Beck (my personal Bob Dylan, absolutely brilliant albums. First saw him in Raleigh NC in like 1996 just after Odelay came out. Never expected that trippiness. I wish it weren't for his accident where he hurt his back, my man could seriously dance back in the day. Shows aren't nearly as trippy as they once were, but his Hangout headlining set in like 2015 was so unbelievably epic. Best 'Debra' of all time!) I will bounce over to Bassnectar after 'Wow' to rage for a few songs, then back to Beck for most of the end. So many of you seem to make fun of Bassnectar, but I have had an absolute blast at all of my 15 or so shows over the years. Dressing as a steampunk/robot I put together for Burning Man, white and black.
Just like many of you I have absolutely hated on Sunday ever since the daily artists were announced. But after researching and creating my playlist, there is actually good stuff all day long until the headliners. Ghost of Paul Revere (check out their 'Baba O'Reiley' Who cover), Ashe (collab-ed with all kinds of people), Hippo Campus (much trippier live, have gotten better over the years since first seeing them at Okeechobee), and then Opiuo and Big Wild are both always good. Skipped Post at Roo, but the few songs I caught at Firefly were actually pretty decent. I will likely do Rezz, though she is pretty much the same every time I have seen her. If only they could have swapped out one of the Saturday headliners with Sunday it would have been perfect.
See you back in Platinum Steve! I wrote them a month ago, and I think I convinced them to add some IPA's to our open bar (got a highly positive response). The notice they just sent out actually said "craft beer", so hopefully it worked:-)
Here is my Voodoo 2019 artist playlist for anyone interested (170 songs), some great tracks in store for us live this year! (Always best on 'shuffle')
I haven’t seen it but one of my boy’s gf hmu and said Zhu is secret headliner at Joy which is a free/RSVP ticket. I’m in Florida so I don’t have a way to see the RSVP or how to get it. She said she signed me up just in case.
*Saturday has all the Florida rappers and Sunday is Summer Walker so it’s gotta be Friday.
Food court is out on the app, but you have to update it to get it. No menus. And it looks similar to last year. For anyone not from here, the highlights are probably:
Boucherie Restaurant des Familes Petite Rouge Coffee Truck
I’d we weren’t getting Aaron Sanchez, those are two of the places I’d hit (plus I’ll get iced coffee at Petite Rouge anyway). Bonafried is supposed to be a solid chicken food truck, but I don’t think I’ve had them. The full list looks like mostly local restaurants and maybe catering/event comapanies. The full list for 2019:
Blue Oak BBQ (their sauces are good, some of their BBQ is, sides are decent)
Bonafried
Boucherie (underrated smoke and meat place)
Bratz Y’all
Bud’s Broiler (used charcoal for burgers but meh)
Cafe Navarre
Cartozzo’s Food Service (crawfish bread and shrimp bread @ jazz fest I think)
Crepes a la Cart
Crescent City Grill (? There is one in Hattiesburg maybe that?)

damnit.. the weather forecast keeps getting worse and worse.. as of now, calling for heavy rain Thursday - Saturday.. Hopefully this shifts again tomorrow
Crescent City Grill is not the one out of Hattiesburg, as that's a legit restaurant group (Robert St. John) and the one at Voodoo is fair food by Crescent City Amusements.
If Blue Oak has their chicken sandwich (only on Tuesdays at the restaurant), you're gonna want that.
Bonafried is always decent but almost never great. Get the special sauce if they're doing that.
I can always find something I like from Boucherie, Dat Dog, or Bratz Yall. And I'm sure I'll get a Bud's #1 or #4 at some point. Also, Restaurant des Familles is supposedly a pretty good place out in Marrera Bra but I've never been.

Early models don’t look good for Friday. Outside chance some of the lines might jump over us, but it looks like a Saturday 2015 day as far as it raining multiple times if not maybe 4” or whatever we got that day that ruined that part of the park for 7 months. :/
I don’t have shramp boots, but I have a raincoat and 2 pairs of converse that have seen 8 or 9 festivals and are trashed anyway. Problem is if shit ends up getting fucked up early, the rest of the weekend could end up getting cancelled. I’d give that about 15%, but it’s a possibility.

some tough looking forecasts there. hard to paint a rosey picture of Friday, but assuming the grounds aren't destroyed later in the day saturday should be ok. i'm pretty jazzed for GNR on Friday and The National > Bassnectar on Saturday. hope it works out. i'll be in my torrentshell, old black ll bean boots, and costco wool socks.
we have a rez at la petite grocery for saturday lunch. just booked a dinner rez for Friday at Toups South just in case the festival doesn't work out.
La Petite is so fucking good. Chef Justin is the shit. I haven't been since around 2012, but I have been able to get there a few times and it was always really fucking good. FWIW, I'm absolutely buried at work, but the forecasts this morning looked even worse - like 3-5" of rain. After the 12Z runs come out (lunch time or so), I'll post the links. It sure wasn't looking good this morning, and I would have upped the chances of it being cancelled (some or part) from like 15% to 90%. It would ruin the end of the year music run since Day for Night no longer operating, and it reminds me of a Mardi Gras a few years ago where it was low 30's and rained a couple of inches destroying all plans. Shit just wasn't right. I harken you back to David Crosby from CSN&Y:
Must be because I had the flu for Christmas I'm not feeling up to par
So I just created a Reddit account just so I could inform others from what I was just told by someone that is working this weekend for Voodoo. The Voodoo staff and city park's emergency management team are monitoring this weather system we're supposed to get hit with very closely and are currently coming up with a few options for tomorrow in particular. So as this weather system comes in tonight into tomorrow, they will assess the situation and if there is heavy downpours and/or thunderstorms within half an hour of gates being opened, THEY WILL DELAY THE OPENING OF THE GATES (possibly to mid afternoon). This will also unfortunately result in the cancellations of the earlier sets. Now, if the weather continues to be bad and there hasn't been a period of 30 minutes in between thunder or lightning, then the city park and voodoo officials will move to a friday cancellation. All refunds for that day will be issued after the weekend.
Now as for the preparations of the festival grounds, Voodoo all week as worked to lay heavy amounts of mulch in areas that are notorious to get muddy. They are also prepared this year to close off areas that become extremely bad to preserve the ground from being overly torn up. (Voodoo was given a serious warning this year by city park about maintenance and preservation of the grounds so voodoo is taking it serious this year.) Be prepared if you end up going to have less space to freely maneuver around the festival grounds due to sections being closed off.
per the comments his source is a girl he was talking to in line at Mojo Coffee today, so take it for what it's worth. it tracks though, and I don't see the incentive for poster to lie about any of this. gives me a glimmer of hope that maybe the grounds won't be a nightmare come saturday.
Thanks Post. That makes the most amount of sense. It completely sucks that it's going to Friday that will be fucked up instead of Sunday. I'm going to rip them about what I perceive as "make even more fucking revenue by emphasizing day pass sales and targeting those audiences" after all is said and done. And I'm going to stand by my word in not buying Platinum until I know all three days are worth it (as they always have been before this year). I'm still off tomorrow and am looking forward to not having my cars flood and getting into the park. Maybe GNR will get a free show somewhere tomorrow night if they have to call it off which would suck asses.
...FLASH FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON...
.A slow moving storm system will setup periods of heavy rainfall Friday morning through Saturday afternoon. Rainfall amounts of two to four inches will be common with locally higher amounts possible. These amounts over relatively short periods of time will likely cause some flash flooding.
First time going to Voodoo Sunday to see Posty. How early should I get to Altar in order to get a spot close to the stage? Also how far apart are the stages? Thinking about maybe seeing Sheck Wes before hand.
Sheck West is at the adjacent stage; if you're toward the back of either Ritual or Wisner, you can see the other stage from there. Voodoo's pretty manageable to easily get around. Avenues to get around may be limited by Sunday though due to standing water/mudpits.
Stages are like 5 minutes apart, but with flooded park, it could be slow going. To be determined.
Shit show is on for today, so I'm about to get in the shower, make a drink and pack up. Black Prophets of Rage T, white (soon to be mud colored) converse and a blue pelicans cap. Plan is:
Des Rocs Michigander Magic City Hippies Templo Grandson Moon Taxi Cray Dr. Fresch Brandi Carlile Peekaboo/Interpol GNR
I'm hoping for a solid day but no doubt we're going to have periods of torrential rain. Haha. Tropical Depression 17 will become TS Olga later today, so it's going to be my first Voodoo ever during a tropical storm. LMFAO. See y'all there.
