I feel the same way - def some bands I want to see and just playing the obvious numbers game there will be some on each day. I rolled thru some comments last night and truly hope they go ACL style next year. Huuuge lineup and prices 300+ for GA, VIP and PLAT in the 2-3K range.
Just saw Beck headline Shaky Knees. It was a great headlining set. I know Shaky Knees is built more around his genre, but I expect a pretty solid crowd for Voodoo as well.
I made the last minute decision to go with Platinum again. The fun is just too big going that route. I'll be doing it solo again of course with all the brood and posse doing GA. Taxes were already factored in, so the only additional cost was shipping which was $9.00. They will piss me off if they put bassnectar vs. Guns and Roses, as I expect to have the entire Platinum section for Bassnectar to myself. They will also piss me off if they put him up against Beck. They will not, however, piss me off if they put him up against Post Malone.

You don’t think he gets the pre headliner main stage treatment like Odesza, LCD?
To me, those bands have a different requirement for their performances as far as floor area needed goes. Speaking of "LCD", the Ladies of LCD are doing a show here in the next few days. I'm not going to be able to attend, but I wanted to. 95% Bassnectar will close the festival at Le Plur stage one of the days. I think the other obvious closers for that stage will be Rezz and either Zhu or The Glitch Mob.
The caveat on all this is that if I get a close day of Rezz vs. Post Malone, that's going to kick Voodoo down a notch as one of the worst closing days it ever had. At the same time, I acknowledge that those are very popular acts among newer festival attendees and will not only move tickets but probably offer some experiences to new attendees that they'll appreciate in the future.
Went out to catch Corey Henry at Vaughan’s last night after hearing about Dr John. Seemed like the right thing to do. I know they haven’t really done anything like this before, but voodoo really should throw together some kind of tribute show this year
Props out to Bing & Dave M who I should have listened to a long time ago and would have if I would have been paying attention. I was intrigued by Brutus when I was scratching the surface of the lineup. But now it's so far into must-see territory, I'm upgrading the lineup to a C+ from C-. She's a pretty badass drummer (I'll leave the judging to Jabco, but I'm going to go ahead and say she kicks Kim's ass in chops and technical skills). Great voice, great drummer, good band. For all the letdown shit lurking on the lineup, this is real deal for anyone who hasn't paid attention yet. The songs all seem progress across different tempos and usually find a hard part and often pretty frenetic shit (except the acoustic recordings).

single day tickets and daily lineup coming july 15. wow that is really early. loving this trend of festivals announcing daily lineups sooner and sooner.

That's odd considering they haven't even changed the pricing structure yet. I wonder if they're selling a bunch of tickets and haven't bothered to jack up the prices or if it's semi-slow and they want to hone in on specific days earlier to see if they need to make any talent adjustments. I figure they know what they're doing since they're up to around 60k+ a day now. But since so many people wait until right before the festival to get their tickets anyway, it's hard to guess.

pure speculation obviously but maybe they think they can get more cash now if they go ahead and offer single day sales early, rather than trying to do the regular festival thing of trying to sell as many 3 days as possible first.
bonnaroo announcing dailies with the lineup makes me think they have seen significant sales of the single day/nashville shuttle tickets. maybe now that festivals are more mainstream they are doing more to cater to a more casual crowd, someone who is willing to pay $100 to see GNR and maybe a few other bands but doesn't want to commit to a whole weekend of festivaling.
This year is so janky and has no sense or reason. They have thrown out everything that they have done in the past. They might not raise prices until right before the festival because of the fees and shit they added. I mean that $140 ticket was $198 by the time I checked out.
I think they aren't moving the tickets they expected and that is why they did the jump straight to single day and no price raise yet, but I am completely speculating as well. I thought the lineup was pretty good, but others I have talked to disagree.

If people really hate this lineup that's a bad sign for my tastes. I was hoping this would be one festival that wasn't over-polluted with pop/rap/edm like 90% of the rest of the US fests.

I'm ok with them doing it differently. Why not? My hunch is they are selling a lot of tix but those GNR fans are gonna grab the singles like crazy. I'm in for 3 so no matter to me either way. And YES on Brutus!! Hot Damn that is a must see!
... And YES on Brutus!! Hot Damn that is a must see!
There are some other random EDM and rock acts that are a bit out there that I'll get to later on if no one else does. But that is the one act that sticks out to me more than anything else of the stuff that I didn't know going in. We probably watched 10-12 videos/recordings/live footage pieces, and I kept wanting to find a reason to dismiss what I was seeing as a fluke. I couldn't do it. So yeah, I'll be up in the front row for that one. I know Vieux likes her lady performers to kick some ass too, so I'll be looking for her at that set.
Good call as Gnr ppl will def be hoovering up day passes and it’s prob good to get them out of the way first so as not to harsh the benzo experiences of the Post Malone fan base on Saturday.
I’m in for Gnr w Longinus and Oh Sees afterwards at Oej.
so if GNR is friday, then post malone is likely saturday with beck on sunday.
the national is in boston thursday oct 24 so i think that makes them less likely for friday.
i'm hoping bassnectar is saturday during post malone. though i'm sure i'd have a decent time at post malone if it came down to it.
Agreed 100%. That way I'll get the headliners I want without any bullshit. Like I said a month or so ago, if it's Rezz vs. Post Malone for Saturday (meaning Bassnectar will be up either vs. GnR or Beck), I'm going to be fn pissed. However, if I get to close the nights Friday - Guns 'N Roses, Saturday - Bassnectar, Sunday - Beck, I'll be pretty happy about it.
Also, with all the shit I don't like on the lineup (some very low card research still to go), I'm wanting about 6 acts a day I'd see since it's really only going to be 4 or 5 once conflicts are factored in. It usually works out, but the idea of picking between Post Malone and Rezz is unfathomable.
By Day comes out today at noon*, and Feast Under the Stars is again sold out. I can't believe how fast that sells out. Maybe they should expand it?
Friday: GnR, Brandi Carlisle, Interpol, Snails, Moon Taxi, Peekaboo, Ducky Live, Magic City Hippies I'm okay with Friday - possible other shows include Ducky Live, Cray, Big Gigantic
Saturday: Beck, Bassnectar (FUCK), The National, Denzel Curry, Japanese Breakfast, Flamingosis, Brutus, Iglooghost I'm okay with Saturday (short of the Bassnectar/Beck conflict) and might also see Whipped Cream, Still Woozy, Zhu, Serotones, Shaed
Sunday: Perhaps the worst day I can remember in the history of Voodoo Fest. I'd see Bring Me the Horizon, Sheck Wes, Big Wild, Opiuo, Willaris K
Jesus. I don't even much like any of those acts more than in passing besides Opiuo. I think I'll email them and complain about Sunday. I do dig Friday and Saturday.

yeah sunday is pretty weak, but should still have huge attendance just for Post Malone. might have been strategic scheduling.
Friday GNR will be a pretty great way to kick off the weekend. will brandi carlile and interpol conflict?
Saturday The National > Beck will be pretty cool. Of course we got screwed with bassnectar conflicting with Beck, but I've never seen Beck and have seen bassnectar a few times so I have to go with Beck.
