I really hope Bassnectar isn’t there. I’m not really that opposed but I liked how they got unique headliners every year (minus SCI of course). I’d just hate to see them repeat headliners when there’s so many other acts that could fill that spot better. Also, I’m really hoping Flaming Lips will be there.
I mean I understand maybe people won't want him at the same festival all the time, but it's not like a Bassnectar set ever sucks. Otherwise, this lineup kind of rules. I don't know if it's the entire lineup or if there are adds to go, but:
Cheese
Umphrey's
STS9
Bassnectar
JRAD
EOTO
Anderson.Paak & TFN
CloZee
Flying Lotus
Lettuce
Manic Focus
Pigeons Playing Ping Pong
Robert Walter's 20th Congress
Sodown
SPAGA*
Star Kitchen*
Steel Pulse
Marvel Years
Thundercat
* With Spaga and Star Kitchen, I wonder why they didn't bring Disco Biscuits since 3/4 of the band will probably already be there. IDK
As usual, I'd do it any other weekend than Voodoo. And if it was 2-3 hours closer, I'd ditch Voodoo Sunday (which I mostly hate) and go to Suwanee. Unfortunately I'll have to wait for sets to be uploaded to YouTube which we'll watch as many as we can find for sure.

I don't hate that Bassnectar is one lineups, I hate that Bassnectar fans overtake any festival with Bassnectar on the lineup. I Loved EForest but the Bassnectar residency fully killed it for me.
I hear you. They generally don't bother me. I tried to troll some of them in Texas in the past, and it didn't work because they were all so nice. I've probably seen him 9 or 10 times over the years (several camping fests in that mix) and never had any issues. Obviously everyone has different experiences. I generally hate "groups" of people when they're all together and act a crowd. But I just never had any problems with Bass Heads in my experiences.

Unless I just don't know the names it seems like there is a lot less rap this year and even more jammy/grassy than normal. I know it says initial lineup but no other rap besides Paak is strange.
I’m a actually really happy with the lineup! I think there’s a lot of great jam and jazz on there. I just wish there was some more Indy and psychedelic rock on there but I guess it’s a good start. Bassnectar doesn’t bother me, I’m just glad they’re keeping the lineup chalk full of unique stuff!

pretty big fan of this lineup, minus the top line. Bassnectar, Jason Isbell and Anderson.Paak are pretty weak to me, actually surprised to see Jason Isbell up there compared to some others just below him.
Think it's safe to say STS9 gets a Thursday headliner slot with their Red Caverns show happening over the same weekend?

Yeah, the billing is weird to me. And I think you're right

So with the late announcement do we think it's possible day passes become an option? I had been told on Reddit that sometimes they offer a Sunday day pass. How often does that happen does anyone know?
I have about 20 friends that have all gone to Hula the past 3-4 years. I have yet to go and I have not heard anything about how they feel about the lineup this year. Don’t know if that’s good or bad, maybe I just saw it first or none of them really like it. Seems eh to me still but not horrible and with plenty of names I could still make a good time out of it. Just wish it wasn’t so expensive. Really just want to go see Suwannee one year.
The producers have been really transparent on there twitter and on reddit. I feel pretty good about this year. Longer set times, but music will start later in the day. STS9 and Umphs will have back to back sets on the same stage Thursday and Friday, switching closing slots each night. They will still have late night bluegrass/folk rock on the Spirit Lake stage.
Second phase lineup will be smaller, but will have a couple great mid-tier acts. (I'm hoping for something like Explosions in the Sky, Vida Blue, King Gizzard and the Lizard....While I love the lineup, we are seriously lacking indie rock on the lineup) But yea, overall the more I dig into the lineup the more I really like it. Excited for this year!
Full lineup is out. They added some great shit including Tycho and Break Science Live Band along with Karina Rkyman, John Stickley Trio, Erica Falls, Polyrhythmics, Marc Rebillet, Mija and Justin Jay.
String Cheese Bassnectar A.P & TFN Jason Isbell & 400 Unit Flying Lotus Greensky Bluegrass JRAD STS9 x 2 Umphrey's x 2 Thundercat Lettuce Tom MOrello Steel Pulse Clozee Pigeons Playing Ping Pong Manic Focus Eoto Peekaboo Motet Circles around the Sun Break Science Live Band (will be members of lettuce no doubt) Star Kitchen Tauk Sodown Marvel Years Spaga
That's a quality music weekend and maybe not so much for the pop and sing-along fans. The only act I don't like at some level on the lineup is Disco Act MZG.

It's really a nice lineup.
I'd add Andy Frasco & The UN, Billy Strings, Karina Rykman, Maribou State, Taz, Grass is Dead, and Travers Brothership as some fun acts. I wish we could go.
^^ Agreed there as well. I was skimming through and left off a lot of stuff. Spaga is dynamite. We watched a free stream they did a few weeks back where they did a 20 minute jazz piece based off Led Zeppelin's Black Dog that was excellent. Shit. This is the one year that I think the ceiling is actually higher for Hula than Voodoo. I always like Hula's overall lineup better, but Voodoo has the higher ceiling. I don't agree this year. :/

That sounds hella cool. Didn't know Spaga was Magner
Yeah. Spaga played here for Jazz Fest but it was like 3am on a Monday morning or some shit that there was no way to make it. Brownie had Star Kitchen and J.E.D.I. in too. I caught both nights of the Disco Biscuits, but the schedule was too full or the shows were too late to get to the side project shit. Me and cmack (now known as JUICY JAY) ran into him at like 5:30am at Cleo's on Canal Street getting some middle eastern cuisine. haha
Here's the Spaga show they streamed from Philly a couple weeks ago. If you skim it, you can see that they take the shit in a lot of different directions for a Jazz trio

Anyone going to this? Was able to work an agreement out with a basshead buddy of mine where I’d buy his band Saturday morning. (After Bassnectar plays) Flylo, Thundercat, Anderson Paak and Maribou state are my only must see acts all on Saturday. I saw SPAGA being talked about in here, anyone have any other recommendations for Sat/Sun?
