Mija will be a solid house set between Thundercat and Flylo on Saturday and Jason Isbell on Sunday for alt Americana/Southern rock/country/whatever he's really great live. Wish I was going this year.
Anyone going to this? Was able to work an agreement out with a basshead buddy of mine where I’d buy his band Saturday morning. (After Bassnectar plays) Flylo, Thundercat, Anderson Paak and Maribou state are my only must see acts all on Saturday. I saw SPAGA being talked about in here, anyone have any other recommendations for Sat/Sun?
Stuff I like on Saturday - String Cheese, Manic Focus, Thundercat, SoDown, Flying Lotus, Doom Flamingo looks pretty trippy. I've seen them on lineups, but I haven't seen them.
Sunday - Some people like Walker and Royce. I saw em once. It's okay if you like house. Erica Falls is a singer from New Orleans who often sings with Galactic. She's got a great voice. Star Kitchen is bomb. This year's lineup is Mark "Brownie" Brownstein of Disco Biscuits on Bass, Danny Mayer of Eric Kraso Band on guitar, Rob Marsher of Addison Groove Project on Keyboards and Marlon Lewis who has worked with a lot of people but notably Ms. Lauryn Hill and John Legend. Here's a show from March with most of the same band. It's kind of groovy jam-jazz I guess.
Live for music had some awesome videos of Cheese cover set on Saturday. Videos were awesome. 2nd time I’ve missed hula. Hope everyone had a great time, it’s such a treat.

Only went Sat/Sun but it was a great time. Only bummer was it was abnormally hot for Hula even at night. Hulas camping is definitely the best I’ve ever attended. You pick where you camp there Is no one directing you in an open field and if you show up late you can still camp with your group. Lots of shade and trees everywhere so camping isn’t as draining as other fests. Also is cool that the camping is a giant circle around the main venue so the farthest walk into the festival is like 8 minutes max. Being able to have open campfires, free showers, a real river to swim in, glass, golf carts/bikes is nice too. The group I met up with also rented a porta potty for camp which is $150 for four days and is cleaned twice a day which was super convenient.
Spirit lake is definitely the main attraction for Hula. The art is truly out of this world here and the interactive experiences are incredible. Complimentary bar is cool, the mural maze is fun, but my favorite was the casino they had this year. I spent a couple hours playing roulette and you just wager random tokens/gifts but it’s a good time. The projections they had on the lake were great and so were the monsters they had spread amongst spirit lake. I also discovered the craft beer tent which highlights local breweries throughout the weekend for an hour and provides unlimited 10 oz refills in that time frame. Good way to kill some downtime.
Saturday we saw Hip Abduction>Maribou State>SCI>Thundercat>Mija>SCI theme set>Flylo>Anderson Paak > Manic Focus secret set at incindia at like 3:30AM
All were great with the standouts being SCI theme set/Flylo and Paak. SCI Saturday night set is always themed and special and Deff has the highest production value of any set over the weekend. They had live dancers, acrobatics, flame spinners the whole nine for the set on stage with them. It was a 90s theme and had covers of Phish, Radiohead, Nirvana, Alanis Morrisette, RHCP, Beck, Tupac, TLC and others. Really fun set. Paak did a Mac Miller tribute which was nice too. Little disappointed there was no sit ins with Thundercat,Flylo and Paak all playing the same night.
Sunday didn’t have too much that excited me but we ended up having a lot of fun with
Walden>Billy Strings>SPAGA>end of Walker and Royce>G love>Ripe>Wheaten>JRAD>Jason Isbell>JRAD>Tchami
Most of the EDM we saw during the weekend was super generic Las Vegas style besides FLYLO. Tchami did some deep house so that was a pleasant surprise and Manic Focus is a little more funky. JRAD and Isbell were both very good Sunday.
Overall I’ll keep going if they keep up with booking atleast a few interesting acts. They can get away with not booking the most interesting lineups because the art, camping and Interactive experience is so good and only 3 hours away from me it’s hard to say no. I might have to start making my NOLA trips for jazz fest because it’s hard to see Voodoo beating this out anymore, the total Hula experience is much better then Voodoo and I think they do a great job as a city fest.
I thought they had a 2020 thread, but it didn't come up in the search. Apparently they have secured the SOSMP for the 29th-1st. I doubt it happens, so they added this caveat:
I'd definitely be going to this if we weren't already doing OSL. Sad that I'm most likely going to miss Leon coming out to perform Texas Sun in The Meadow with Khruangbin at sunset.
Anybody snag tickets for this ? My gf and I got tickets this morning. Probably my fav hula lineup ever. I’ve been going since the 2nd year.
This will be my first year! I'm super pumped. Hula has always been on my bucket list.
What other festivals have you been to? I’m sure you’ll love it. Super laid back, kinda get to park and camp where ever you want. Not sure if you’re into jam but don’t miss String Cheeses cover set. Usually on Saturday night. They are always themed and super fun.

As far as camping festivals, Bonnaroo and Okeechobee. Thanks for the head's up on SCI - I hadn't heard about that and it sounds super fun! I'm honestly not that familiar with a lot of the bands on the lineup but gonna start digging in beforehand. Have always heard great things about Hula and looks like a really cool venue with a good atmosphere, so when I had a friend reach out about going I couldn't say no.

Nice. I love it too. It’s several bands I will see whenever I can - Lotus, Cheese, Lettuce, Break Science, Turkuaz. Really good. I’m hoping to catch several of those later in the year. Been a while since I’ve seen Lotus who never disappoints me.

Khru and MMJ put it over the top. Plus the ones you listed , really like the dirty bird guys and daily bread. Jungle should be fun too. Enjoyed their set at Roo in 18

You’ll love it. Diverse lineup, chill security , nice production. A lot of dust/dirt roads walking from camp grounds to the stages. Also gets cold at nights. So prepare for that but besides that it’s a great fest. Glad y’all got tickets.

Jacket will be good. I’m going to try to get Halloween tickets for Sunday in New Orleans tomorrow, but I’m not sure I’ll make it. kruangbin will be good too. I dig Manic Focus Live Band, seen him do it twice and it pretty fucking good both times. In the low tier, Lespecial is a decent Primus tribute band. You’d rather have the real thing, but we’ll both see them elsewhere on the Tribute to Kings tour anyway.
Never listened to Earthgang but damn this will def be a fun show
Yeah, they're pretty good. They played Buku 2019 and came from Spillage Village collective. It was solid. They played right before J.I.D who has been known to collaborate with them due to the association of the collective.

I’ve seen there name a lot just never took the time to listen but liked their last album. Should be a solid show , nice to get a decent rap show in with all the goodies.

Really wish they had single day tickets. I really want to go Saturday and I live like an hour away. If I got a 3-day I'd come Saturday morning or Friday night and leave Sunday after Khruangbin.
If anyone hears about someone they trust unloading some cheap tix lmk. Doubt it will happen but you never know!
