Live Nation also books ACL and they've been on fire the last few years. Them also going full Phish for Roo makes me think they're not as bad as everyone's making them out to be.
Interesting tidbit: Primavera sold 29% of its equity last year to Yucaipa Companies, an American private equity firm. Specifically to gain access to financing outside of selling part of or the whole company to one of the big behemoths (Live Nation, AEG, presumably) that oligopolize the live event space. The founder of Yucaipa, Ron Burkle, is apparently a big music fan. They’re under no obligation to sell any additional equity to Yucaipa. Makes me feel a bit better about the Live Nation partnership. They already have a huge financing source, so this partnership with Live Nation is probably more about logistics.

Yes they are. LN try to buy Exit/In here in Nashville. An institution in the music scene. Totally independent. The owner told LN no thank you. LN said fine, then we will put in our own venue and put you out of business. Exit/In said bring it bitch. Hasn’t happened.

Damn I can feel the hype deflating. There’s no way I’m doing a blind pre-sale over a year in advance for a LN fest. I really want this to work but with Pavement only doing Barca... might just try and do that

Beyond excited about this. Feel like it'll be hard to predict who plays here vs. Coachella, but names I think would fit and I would love to see booked: My Bloody Valentine, Caribou, Stromae, Hot Chip, Ratatat, Underworld, Arca, FKA Twigs, Jamie xx, Rhye, Neon Indian, Freddie Gibbs & Mad Lib, Chromatics, The Avalanches, Duster, Sleater Kinney, etc.
Reaches include Tom Waits, Joanna Newsom, Sade, Everything But The Girl, The Knife, Beth Gibbons (with LA Philarmonic), Kate Bush
I'm not automatically deterred by the LN association. Echoing the others thinking this has to be more logistical and ticketing help than anything else.
Not buying presale but starting the planning. This is just great news.
Not sure when this will be held, but are we positive Coachella overlap will be this festival's main concern?

Yeah, I think they can coexist. It looks like Coachella is done throwing acts like Nitzer Ebb, Severed Heads and June of 44 in a tent for 100 people. Hopefully Primavera LA can find a way to incorporate the weird stuff.

So it sounds like Live Nation’s booking team will have a hand in this.
This is enough for me to take a pass on the presale and wait for a lineup
In for LA next year. Outside of the LN factor, the fact that the festival won’t go on till 5am like Barca will be a bigger deterrent for me. Barcelona really had the perfect set up where you can catch a majority of the bigger acts at night. Either way, this year sold me so I’m hoping the booking team remains in tact.
Neither LiveNation nor Primavera Sound will want to put on this festival in LA just to tarnish Primavera's name as a taste making festival. I'm sure the lineup will be very good - something with a floor of "typical year of Pitchfork fest with a couple more mainstream names" and a ceiling of "2016/2017 FYF type lineups."
That said, I'm not going to buy pre-sale, moreso for the fact that I don't want to tie money into a festival 15 months from now that we have very few details about.

Live Nation doesn't give a shit about tarnishing anything if it makes them money. They've ruined their fair share of good things already. I don't think the fest is automatically going to have a shitty lineup because LN is involved, but I'd be throwing money at this thing blindly next Friday if they weren't. A Pitchfork-esque lineup wouldn't be enough to get me out there but I'm sure it would sell well with locals and people west of the Midwest.
I don't completely disagree. LA historic park is a cool venue, but with a ~15-20k capacity, unless tickets are astronomical, they only have so much money to play with to book the two-day fest. You're also not in Barcelona, and you don't get the music going til 6 AM every day.
If I didn't live in LA, I'd for sure just wait until the lineup because its probably going to be a roughly Pitchfork type lineup, and at some point it'll be worth just going to Barcelona.

Maybe I'm too optimistic, but I feel like Prima LA will put out at least one on-brand lineup before Live Nation says "fuck it" and starts booking Odesza.

I feel like I read somewhere that Live Nation bought Spaceland Presents out here hoping they would become their "Goldenvoice" like AEG has. With the timing of the announcements I wouldn't be surprised if Spaceland is who will be mostly handling this, trying to take the space FYF left behind.
