Def looks like its gonna be an all day camp out at Primavera Stage. Tons of people just hanging out and prob dont care about whatever else is at the other stages.
Waiting for AM?
Well yeah, what else. Lots of people asked guards which stage was what and where AM was playing.
Tons of kids had never seen them. I had lots of convos with people who said that. And ones that travelled cause theyre so worried they wont come to their city.
It still wasnt that big of a crowd per say. It went back to the end of the bars in the 21+ Area. Im sure the under 21 was full too. James blake was pretty sparse.

Oh yeah, AM have some hardcore fans. Always been that way. Tends to be a lot of crowd crushing for them too, so we held our ground during the inevitable crowd surge yesterday.
Thought AM sounded great, though. Played the deep cuts I was hoping for and returned most of their old songs to their pre-Tranquility Base tour punchiness. Girl in Red clearly wasn't happy about the AM campers and vocally expressed her disdain. Probably not a lot of fan overlap between the two, but I did feel a little bad for her. On the side stages, Cigarettes After Sex had a huge crowd while Dry Cleaning's was depressingly paltry. The latter was great while the former bored us into leaving early for AM. Did Faye Webster's mic mix sound off to anyone else? Saw her once before and it wasn't like that.
Festival itself was...alright I guess? Will call was thankfully easy. Entering/exiting the 21+ area was a pain, especially by the Tecate stage where they kept changing the rules about which one was an exit. Art market was unexpectedly great, my partner found some prints she loved. Food was better than I was reading on socials. If they're insistent on bringing this back, I think they know which things to fix, as indicated by the adjustments they made over the weekend.

this festival turned out AMAZING! biggest highlights were obviously surf curse and AM. amyl and the sniffers got that mosh pit going too!! but man Sunday ended up being fantastic! king krule came on 10 min late and played for like 30 min but we got out getting ribs so im happy! girl in red was really fun but it felt awkward like I felt bad the crowd wasn't with it. AM was fantastic, we got pushed up to almost the very front and there were some awesome mosh pits like actual circle pits, we had space to move and everyone around us was having a good time. some legit AM fans !! I'm happy, but I also spent nothing. next year they gotta lower those prices !!!! $300 - $350 even and ill buy !! the 21+ thing was cool cause we were able to get close to the stages but exiting got congested at the end. the food was decent, the hangar 1 vodka drinks were good, being close to the metro was clutch! we stayed in a quiet neighborhood in Pasadena that was a short walk from the metro for the weekend and that was great. highland park brewery also has some AMAZING sours !!!! we even got a lineup poster and t shirts overall a great weekend.
By the photos and videos, the festival looked very standard like the usual suspects. It doesn't feel like anything really stood out so the charm Primavera Sound is known for felt absent. Especially with that price tag. Someone who has been to both editions in Spain and LA, please correct me if I'm wrong.
Press release claims over 50,000 came over the whole weekend. Thats a reach I would say.
Maybe they mean 16k a day but even that sounds like a reach lol
Re read what I said lol. I said over the whole weekend, so yes, divided by the 3 days. No way friday had 16k. Lorde's crowd barely went past the soundboard before thinning out. Khruangbin had more people than Lorde on Saturday.

Well I hadnt been to Prima barca since 2010 but all thats changed is the capacity and a few more stages over the time. I mean it felt like if FYF went full corpo with so many sponsors everywhere. It was nice to have green grass though and a nice amount of shade in some areas. The south side of the fest was where is was sort of lacking in a sense. The Alta and Smirnoff stages just kinda were empty feeling spaces, although Bicep not being nearly as full was a bummer but it mean more room to dance. And plenty or acts noted the soundbleed from Smirnoff Stage too. That felt like an afterthought in a sense cause i never saw more then maybe a couple hundred people there at most. There were moments where it seemed they had the vibe of barca but that wasnt a constant thing. I mean they def need things to go later to get things really rolling. I get theres noise curfews and all but they def couldve gone til midnight overall. The 10pm end on sunday was perfectly fine though.
I only went Sunday— it was a lot of fun, but I agree with the sentiment that it was just alright and there was nothing truly special or unique about the event. That said, I personally really like the venue, the sound was great, the crowd was chill and the music was pretty good.
I bounced around the entire day and saw a bit of Faye Webster, Amyl and the sniffers, dry cleaning, bad Gyal, Arca, special request, Helena Hauff, Jeff Mills, and Arctic monkeys. Of those Helena and Jeff Mills were my favorites, both threw down to a small crowd, the sound was very good and the backdrop of downtown LA was cool from that vantage point. Very mellow crowd, couldn’t have been more than a couple hundred people.
Overall pretty mid but they clearly spent money and worked hard to have high quality stages, sound, and staff. I hope they come back and maybe cater the music a bit more to the LA crowd.
I assume that allowing 21+ to carry drinks around and watch bands vs putting them in a fenced-off area away from the stage is more conducive to alcohol sales.
I wish Coachella would do it but I doubt they ever would
Wait is it like California law or something that anywhere with a bar has to be a 21+ area? That's definitely not a thing in other states
I've been trying to figure out why they had the huge 21+ areas since it was announced, mainly out of curiosity because I could not figure out any reason why it was necessary

La county and what you can do in a public space such as a park. Has to be separate. At This Aint No Picnic there were no beer gardens because its private property on the golf course. Fyf had split up beer gardens and not. Smokin Grooves had beer gardens at theirs too. Also once upon a time in la at the coliseum. The city of San Francisco allows outside lands to have open alcohol at golden gate. Its not a state thing
A lot has been said about this already, so not gonna add much. But I had a blast last weekend. Curation was 9 out of 10 for me, so happy the sound turned out good with minimal bleed (which was my biggest fear).
In no particular order, some of my favorites were: Lorde, Nine Inch Nails, Tim Hecker, Sherelle, John Talabot, Arca, Helena Hauff, Beak>, Special Request, Fontaines D.C., Dry Cleaning, Darkside (aftershow), and Stereolab (aftershow).
supЯefan since i've never asked i figured i will now. do you just have a really solid point-and-shoot that you take with you to all these fests or do you work with an outlet and get photo passes?

I have a point and shoot that I mainly use. But I had a photo pass for Primavera so I used my slr of course. The only thing was that I did not have was access to the photo pit. They only let a dozen or so photogs be in there and it was mainly due to staff shortages, but im not too upset about that. So yeah, I was out in the crowd taking all my photos. Im sure some people noticed an influx of photographers out and about during sets instead of being in their usual spot, and thats why.
Interesting convo at Desert Daze about Primavera. So it seems that it was intended to be a 21+ event and that Arctic Monkeys derailed that. Also looks like Depeche Mode is playing Barca and that would def give La a boost for that respective day if they somehow got that to happen and they agreed to it.

depeche mode is playing the forum on their US run, doubt they hit both

Maybe booking strategy changed after they made the call but they booked a lot of acts that appeal to the teens besides AM

The Forum is in March/April. If Prima happened in sept thats 5 months away and typical of playing in Texas and then announce for ACL. But who knows what happens. Just spitballing for now.
With Spain announced its time to dissect who would play in La if it happens. Figure Halsey is a no brainer since they live here and you could maybe coax a NIN guest spot. Blur might be a safe play and sell a decent amount of single day tix if its the only west coast date they got. Hopefully they get a 90 min set though. Nobody will be down for 75 mins of them.
I mean they gave away tickets to a handful of people so theres potential. They cant really wait on announcing an initial lineup either cause who knows what the fests around that time have booked already. It was pretty clear a lot of people liked what Life is Beautiful had to offer vs this, esp given the price point.
