37 artists, two days, a thousand fans. The 20th anniversary of Primavera Sound starts in Benidorm.
Calling all Primavera Sound fans! We are going back to the beginning: to knowing the faces of our audience. To stages that are just a stone’s throw away. To counting band t-shirts. To meeting artists having a beer at the bar or warming up by drumming on a bench or improvising an after-party in a bungalow.
Primavera Sound is turning 20 and the first celebration will be with its fans. With you. In a special place. Artists, audiences and organisers will share the same space and time in the resort Magic Robin Hood in El Albir (10 minutes away from Benidorm), a site that could be from another era and will accommodate the audience and the operations headquarters of Primavera Weekender 2019. With all the people who have made Primavera Sound what it is: the artists, their teams, and above all, the audience.
It has that ATP sound before that all came crashing down.
I could see this happening at the end of May, few weeks before PS Barcelona. Do we really need to worry about Coachella snagging everything away from them? There is certainly some overlap but I think Coachella is turning more and more towards a rap and pop festival with great undercard than a really alternative festival that PS is. Could see some trouble getting the right acts on top but the undercard should be no problem imo.

Primal Scream have teased a Spring/Summer US tour in 2020. If they’re going the ATP route (one can dream) a stage curated by them would probably be fantastic.

If FYF had to die for this (which was largely inspired by Primavera in later years), then so be it. Crazy that we have dates and a venue 16 months away, but I'm already excited.

Yeah, I'm curious what a festival would be like these days at State Historic Park, which now has a lot of bridges and fixtures that didn't exist when FYF was held there. Could they even fit more than three stages now?

I knew something had to fuck up my high hopes for this, and then live nation comes swooping in. Still hopeful, but I can’t buy presale for any fest LN or GV are putting on not named Coachella.
“Primavera Sound is an inspiring tastemaker festival and we’re thrilled to be working with their Barcelona team in bringing it to Los Angeles next year,” adds Brian Smith, SVP of Los Angeles Booking at Live Nation.
So it sounds like Live Nation’s booking team will have a hand in this.
