This is actually pretty good all the way down. If I went I’d have 3 days full of good music/conflicts. There’s just nobody that I need to see that I already haven’t
I love how how Tame Impala has squeezed headlining two festivals seasons out of one album “cycle”
They'll have a new album out before June. New record, supposedly a new show. They certainly have milked Currents for all it's worth, but this isn't going to be a retread.
I doubt we’ll get it again but would love for Founders to do another AMA now like they did last year. Cleared up a lot of scheduling questions and always feels super insightful.
Not to do another shameless plug, but we're in talks with Tom Russell from Founders about doing a post-lineup interview for the We're Doing Great podcast. Still hammering out logistics, so it's not for sure, but if y'all have any questions you want tossed in the mix, drop them in my DMs, and I'll see what I can get in there.
This is amazing! Hopefully you guys make it happen.
Not that it means this is not good (although they booked better lineups in the past), but once again, it just proves how Coachella lineup is the best of this year.
Comparing a 150+ names fest or a 67 one is kinda pointless imo. There's a certain depth in this line up which I can appreciate a little bit more in comparison to previous years and the toplines are all great gets, nothing special but overall great.
To be honest, last year's lineup was pretty good too IMO. And on your first point, I will disagree with you

Eh, it's all subjective. Beyond Rage, Run the Jewels, and Thom Yorke, the Coachella lineup falls flat, for me. Meanwhile, I'm in love with the GovBall lineup. So, you know...to each their own.
I mean, if we can compare top few lines, I'd prefer Gov Ball to Coachella's, but most of the undercard on Gov Ball are already on Coachella lineup as well

Exactly what Govball was trying to accomplish. Which makes me believe they aren't fretting too bad about the young snobs getting upset on their various social media pages
I’ll bet money that they go back to the younger demo next year, after the ticket sales for this year are poor
I highly doubt that. There are 20 million people in the area. There is enough here that this will sell well. Also an older crowd who can spend more for alcohol, vip, and other luxuries offsetting any potential gains of a little kiddie free for all, even if it does slightly drop attendance. Founders isn't going to reverse their direction. They know what they're aiming for, and it's a sustainable future from people with solid income

Gotta strike while the iron is hot. To be fair, last year’s tour was more about how big Currents had become rather then the new album.
Oh yea it wasn’t a negative indictment at all more so giving them props. I just think it’s funny they’re a headline option two years in a row. As a casual fan I saw them twice last year, both awesome.
Them listing Nancy Wheng as "Nancy Wheng (LCD Soundsystem)" is a little dumb. Never seen solo names billed like that.
i think it would be helpful if festival lineups included tips to remind me of who the artist is.
Tame Impala (they sing that "let it happen" song) - Missy Elliott (cool rapper from a while back, cool videos with the big flowy clothes) - Flume (video game music stuff) - Vampire Weekend (preppy dressing indie white people music)
Stevie Nicks (fleetwood mac "you don't love me now never love me again") - Solange (Beyonce's Sister, assaulted Jay-Z) - Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana, country guy from "old town road"'s daughter)
Ellie Goulding (did that song with bassnectar "then the lights start something something", dated skrillex) - rufus du sol (electronic music for people who hate electronic music) - H.E.R. (she won that grammy)

How about "what was the deal with the clues this year?"

Yep! In addition to Tom, we're also pursuing an interview with someone from Founders who was involved in the clues, to a) post-mortem this year's, and the process of putting them together, and b) talk about how the clues are done in general, the balance in challenge-vs.-guess-ability, the reaction, etc.
Again, no guarantees, at this point, but the inquiries are in.
I'm gonna take my time this weekend to make a mock daily lineup + schedule, there's 67 acts for this edition which tells us that one headliner will play unopposed.
Based on tour dates and my own predictions I believe that Tame Impala plays Friday, Flume Saturday and Missy Elliot (Legacy act, plays unopposed) closing the festival on Sunday.
I can see Missy Elliot being the headliner that's going to play unopposed on Sunday 7th
Just a thought but I don't think you'll see any true unopposed headliner.
It'll be very interesting to see how they handle HL'er conflicts. The age gap that developed made it easy (Travis vs Gaslight, YYY's vs Post). Everything's pretty blended this year. I think it'll all be staggered.
