I am totally perplexed as to how Missy Elliot is a headliner. I know she has big songs but, as someone pointed out, she doesn't really tour much so I have no idea what her normal draw is. Last proper NYC date appeared to be at the now closed Nokia Theater.

I think that her not touring much is part of the appeal or at least what GovBall hopes is the appeal

Missy Elliot is a headliner the same way acts like Soundgarden were Lolla headliners in 2010 and The Replacements at various festivals in 2014. It's more the hype of them not being active for a long period of time. If Missy releases new music and starts being a touring act again, she'll probably dwindle down to a Hammerstein Ballroom/Prospect Park Bandshell act in a few years.

Everything you’re saying could be applied to Rage Against the Machine, but no one seemed perplexed about the idea of them as a headliner.

While I am totally perplexed that Flume doing HGTV on stage is a headliner

I think I disagree there. Rage were always an arena act, even before their breakup. Did Missy ever do arenas in her heyday? Also I haven't looked at the numbers so I could be wrong, but I'd assume Rage sold more albums.
Either way, both acts have been on my bucket list for a while. And I have a feeling Missy headlining will get a lot of my friends to want to go to her day.

I think if Missy’s heyday was right now she’d be an arena artist for sure. But there weren’t a lot of hip hop artists playing arenas in the late 90s -early 00s, especially women. 5 of her 6 albums went platinum, the worst chart performer was #13 and the rest were top 10. Bunch of top ten features and singles. That plus the rarity factor is an easy headliner in my opinion, especially compared to the rest of the names on here.
is it ever worth it buying tickets to this during the on sale or are 3 day passes consistently cheaper on stubhub later on?
I second this question
Last year I waited until about two weeks before the festival and bought a 3 Day Pass on StubHub. It was $185, but after fees (which is truly an extra $60) it was about $240.

Night and day. RATM did their own two nights at Randalls Island with various hip hop acts in 2007. Even when touring Evil Empire and Battle Of Los Angeles, they were playing sheds/arenas.

this festival has historically held its value better than most any other festival other than Coachella, but not sure about this year with the massive pivot and 18+

Well, 3-day pass ordered - missed the early bird, but got in on the advance tier. I know that, financially, it'd make more sense to get something secondhand...I just figured this was a way of expressing my appreciation for a lineup I really dig.
If Flume isn't on the BC lineup I may get a day pass for him. Last nyc trip i had was kinda shitty due to the people I went with being buzzkills so it'd be nice to make up for that.
I am going to hold out for the daily lineups and then decide how many days to go to, I have a feeling that at least one day won't hold much for me, so am I holding back on buying a 3 day.
11/28 Raveonettes (Copenhagen, Denmark) 12/4 Interpol 12/14 LCD Soundsystem 12/31 Billy Joel 1/25 The Killers (Las Vegas) 2/12 Jack White 2/25 Father John Misty 3/6 Inhaler 4/10 Franz Ferdinand 4/17 Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds 5/15 Amyl & the Sniffers 5/18 Fontaines D.C. 9/1 Oasis

She's basically at the top of my bucket list now. Only headliners I'd like to see more that I haven't seen are Depeche Mode, Rage and Daft Punk. I don't think I'll ever get to see the latter.
Regular Tickets now on sale. Seems to be selling pretty well
they sell like 3 early bird and 10 advanced tickets. This means nothing. I have serious doubts this sells out before the week of the festival, if at all.
How does something appear to be selling well if you don’t have the numbers?
Agreed. Not sure moving to regular tickets means anything. May just be a planned increase after a day of sales at the lower price.
Thus why I said it seems that way. Moving to regular tickets gives the appearance that they are selling well. I did not state it as a fact. The only festivals you can say for a fact are doing well is Coachella, Hangout, and Glastonbury because they're sold out.
So I made a ClashFinder, tried to make it as realistic as possible, with 67 acts (Nancy will prob do a small DJ set in between acts just like in 2017 or a Dive Bar set) I might be wrong with some of the placements, but you are more than welcome to make your own, I had fun and realized this year lineup is amazing! clashfinder.com/s/govballmock/?edit

I mean...I’m someone who thinks the age restriction and booking changes were smart long-term moves, and even I think they’re going to take an attendance hit this year. The drop in the younger demo is going to be immediate, while it’s going to take at least a couple years for the festival’s reputation to change and for them to attract (or reattract) the 21-plus folks. This not selling out won’t really prove anything - last year didn’t sell out, either, even with a hip-hop-heavy lineup and no age restrictions.
Is there after-shows for this, and if so is it feasible to see the headliner that night in its entirety and make it to the after show?
Yep! After Dark shows usually get announced in late April. I believe it is possible to see a full headlining set and then make it to an After Dark show, as long as you don't spend a lot of time dicking around once the festival ends for the night.
