To be fair to Carti, I think he put on a really fun set haha. 2019 was just an all-time worst crowd since I started attending in 2014 - I felt like I was at a post-apocalyptic high school prom

What kind of questions are we asking on Thursday?
Well, given that, "ZOMG WHERE'S THE RAPPPP???" is likely going to be asked 50 billion times by others, I'm mostly interested in schedule stuff. Are any headliners playing fully opposed? How are things falling out on Saturday night re: Flume/Vampire Weekend and who's playing on what stage? Will I be able to see all of Dave, Charly Bliss, Princess Nokia, Fontaines DC, and black midi given that they're all in a row on the Sunday lineup?
Other thoughts/questions:
- What steps are being taken to make sure that kids can't skirt the age restriction, and how is the whole ID check thing going to affect lines to get into the festival?
- What changes have been made to staffing and security this year?
- How close did we come to the festival moving in 2020, and how likely is it to move in the future (I'm guessing this'll be a big ol' no comment, but just in case)?
- What changes have been made to the inclement weather/evacuation plans this time around?
- They tried for Frank Ocean (and he was the cause for the delay), but he has zero tour plans post-Coachella, so that rumored arena tour sound like it wasn't ever really a thing. - My Chemical Romance wanted NYC on the later leg of their tour. - Rage Against the Machine wanted to play MSG, since they never actually played their initial run. - They tried for Lady Gaga and Paul McCartney.
There's a bunch of schedule/conflict intel they dropped, too, but I'm not going to type all that shit out here. It's all outlined in that reddit thread I linked.
Also interesting is they said The Strokes were a very last minute booking last year after Kanye backed out the day before the lineup drop.
Yeah, I called that last year - how else to explain the Strokes at the top of a day with 99% hip-hop acts? Although I do wonder if it was Kids See Ghosts, as rumored, rather than Kanye on his own.
Also, can you imagine the actual riot that would have occurred, rather than the near-riot we got, if Kanye had been the Sunday headliner and the festival got cancelled/evacuated? Sweet baby Jesus.
Man, booking one of these things must be an absolute nightmare.

They mentioned two conflicts that are going to hurt me, one badly (Portugal. The Man vs. Carly Rae Jepsen) and one less so (Dave vs. Fontaines DC). Other than that, they seem to be really acing it in terms of scheduling. I'm not a Summer Walker fan, but H.E.R. into Solange (they said Solange's set time is 8:45-9:45, so it's definitely not Solange into H.E.R.) into Missy is a pretty great run. And they fucking nailed Friday - the fact that I'll be able to see all of Foals, Khruangbin, Stevie Nicks, and Tame Impala is amazing.
One thing, though...what's up with headliners playing, like, 75-minute sets? I'm psyched as hell for Missy, but the fact that she doesn't even go on until 9:45 at the earliest is a bit lame. They did this last year with Tyler and what The Strokes were scheduled to play. I know Travis Scott only performed for, like, an hour in 2018, but when did it become standard practice for a headlining festival act to play fewer than 90 minutes?

Tame is going on at 9:45 as well which is odd since they have the capability of doing 1.5 hours
Foals > khruangbin > stevie nicks > banks/ danny brown(guess) > miley > tame Impala
Thats my best guess of who would oppose banks. Thats still an impressive run to end the day on Friday. Wish foals were switched with the banks time in a perfect world but im thoroughly excited for that day adding that snail mail and kota the friend is even earlier in the day.
Total sidenote and i could just be a fan. I really just think the people of founders who plan and run GovBall are really genuine and honest music lovers. Always appreciate that fact and their ability to open up like they did. Hopefully next year we get Gaga, Kendrick, Lana and MCR

As happy as i am with the non overlapping sets Friday and the opportunity to see all the acts i want...i dislike having unopposed headliners...theres just too many people on Randalls to be at one stage
provided Tame doesn't announce a Boston date, I think I'm here for Friday and maybe Saturday. That album is too good to miss out on them
What should I expect from the crowd and the festival in general? How does it compare to Boston Calling and Osheaga
It's hard to say re: the crowd. Prior to the implementation of the age policy, I'd have said GovBall is a festival you enjoy despite the crowd, not in any way because of it. It got suuuuuper young over the past few years, and the kids were most definitely not alright. But, with the new age restriction and a lineup that definitely skews more mature than last year's, we could see at least a bit of a shift in the dynamic. I'm hoping so, anyway.

Thanks! also would you reccommend hotel or airbnb? and which area is best to stay in? My friends and I went to NY for just a weekend and stayed at the moxy Manhattan last year and it was awful haha so I wanna avoid that this year.

What's most important to you in terms of area to stay in? Proximity to the festival? Affordability? Night life? Food options? What's your tolerance for walking? That'll all help hone in on something.
In terms of hotel-vs-airBnB, I live here, so I've never done either in the city, so I have no insight there, sadly!
Can someone ask the old lady from Egypt what she thinks of Lana Del Rey headlining Coachella so we can know whether the festival has redeemed its reputation as a laughingstock worldwide
How did Gov Ball's crowds compare to Panorama's crowds?
the fullest (and I use that term loosely) day of panorama was when frank played and it still wasn’t sold out
Yeah, it gets much more crowded, for sure. It's also typically been a younger demographic - like, teens. Of course, both of these things could change this year with the age restriction and a lineup catering to a somewhat more mature crowd. I'm actually kind of expecting it to undersell, at least a bit, as the teens not coming is instantaneous, whereas the reputation of the festival shifting enough that 20- and 30-somethings might want to come back in significant numbers might take a year or two.
I think the crowd will be slightly less obnoxious this year but I don't think older people realize how many of the kids they see as "drunk high schoolers" are actually college kids. College kids, by and large, should be SLIGHTLY less annoying since they (theoretically) have had some experience with alcohol and will attempt to pace themselves as opposed to the kids chugging the water bottle of Vodka in line and then passing out at 4pm.

GovBall answered a thread on Reddit with headliner length of set: Tame 90 min VW 90 min Flume 75 min Missy 75 min

So, given Coachella's timeline, I'd say we'd be looking at about, what one month to six weeks out from the fest dates for GovBall to make a call one way or the other?

I think they will wait to make a decision until May/mid-May or so.
And now there is a chance I might make this happen.

I was waiting to buy tickets for gov ball bc I live so close, and with Coachella getting moved I definitely need something to fill that void. Is it even worth buying tickets now?
