I was waiting to buy tickets for gov ball bc I live so close, and with Coachella getting moved I definitely need something to fill that void. Is it even worth buying tickets now?
Wait. You don’t want them pulling what Ultra did and not offer refunds. Plus, you can probably get a cheap pass right before.

I've been buying a Gov Ball pass on vivid the week of for 3 years now - you'll save a lot of money that way. They're already cheaper there than paying retail and will only drop from here on out. Add the 18+, no huge #1, and Corona, and we may be talking Panorama dips in the price ($125 - $150 before fees).
I think Gov Ball is 50/50 now. Think they get about 6-7 weeks for this to get much better and then they have to pull.

I think 50/50 is incredibly optimistic. I'd call it 80/20 for a cancelation. As I pointed out on reddit: COVID-19 has an incubation period somewhere between 5 days and two weeks. During that time, a carrier is a) asymptomatic, and b) able to spread infection. "Mild" cases - meaning not requiring hospitalization - have anecdotally been noted to resolve in a couple of weeks, although that's just the symptoms, not the entire absence of viral load.
So. Even if we stopped spread of this thing dead in its tracks today, right this second, with zero further infections, it'd still be a period of at least a month before we could claim victory over the thing, and that's being optimistic...and I think we all know we're not stopping the spread today.
I mean, look at China. They basically went nuclear from a social lockdown standpoint and are *just now*, two months later, starting to ramp back up into day-to-day work and such. We have acted with neither the swiftness nor the decisiveness of China. We are going to be riding this out for a while, unless, by some miracle, the theories about warm weather bear out (about which I have my doubts, given that we're seeing spread in southern hemisphere countries where it's currently summer).
So...yeah. If a decision on this has to be made in April or May, I simply don't see how, without an incredibly fortuitous and unpredicted turn of events, GovBall doesn't cancel. Honestly, sitting right here, I'd say every festival for the next six months, at minimum, is most likely dead.
I hate to be such a downer, but I'm just looking at the fact and trying to prepare myself.

Thoughts on a postponement like Coachella? Push it back in the summer until August or September?

I don't know, to be honest. I'm not sure if other events are scheduled on Randall's around that time; I believe that one of the reasons Coachella was able to do their delay is that they had a lock on the polo fields for October in case they wanted to do another Desert Trip, or the like. So, there's that hurdle. And then, by all accounts, the sheer wrangling and financial negotiations it took Coachella to get most of the lineup, especially the headliners, to commit to the October move were pretty herculean, and I don't know one way or the other if GovBall has that same level of resources.
I think it'd be great if they could pull it off, but I honestly have no clue how possible it'd be. My hunch would be that, if GovBall does have to call things off for June, they will try to do something later in the year. Randall's availability would be the first hurdle, I think, followed then by approval from the city. What form it might take and which artists would end up on the lineup would be anybody's guess.
...but, of course, this is all assuming that we're not still in this thing on some level in six months, of which there's no guarantee.
The realist in me is expecting this to be called off, along with most live events until AT LEAST late June. The U.S. did not take this seriously at all at first and we need a similar lockdown in order to ensure this doesn’t spread as quickly as places like Italy. I hope I’m wrong but that’s what I’m anticipating.

Not to be Debbie Downer, but I hope we're able to have festivals in the fall. If even our dumbass president is saying our lives could be affected until July or August...two months ain't a whole lot of time to put an October festival together.
On top of that you're going to be looking at a 2nd half of the year with the country in a severe recession with 20% unemployment. Gov Ball is on pretty solid ground but you're going to see a bunch of festivals go to the graveyard as a result of this.
If it goes on....Sep 26th weekend? First 2 weekends of Oct could work before weather/cold makes it iffy.
Would be up against Roo then. Sept. 11-13 is still pretty light on fest reschedules. Riot Fest is that weekend, but I don't see many (if any) conflicts then. Would it be callous to have a fest in NYC on 9/11? Serious question. I haven't been in the city on that day to know the mood and emotion.

I don't think there is any chance it can be that weekend. E-Zoo is on Randalls from the 4th-6th and is put on by a different company. 4 days to completely pack up a fest and get another set up seems impossible. Add to that Randall's does not drain well - those fields could/would be ravaged.
And regarding 9/11 I don't think it's ideal but given the circumstances this year it'd be fine. Would just need to make sure they made a First Responders Charity a key focus with proceeds.

I really don’t see this festival happening this year given what’s been going on. If they try to move it to fall, going to likely be a heavily revised lineup.

I mean every other major festival in the early summer (Bottle, Roo, Shaky) has found it okay to postpone it to the Fall. I don’t know why NYC’s only multi-genre fest wouldn’t do the same.
2019 ended with a washout/riot, I don’t think you can just wipeout 2020.

They dont really have an open weekend left
I don't think it's a big deal if they are the same weekend as any of the rescheduled fests outside of maybe Boston Calling. And there's a chance I suppose they don't want to go against Sea Hear Now and their Pearl Jam get. Still would leave 8/22, 9/28, 10/5, 10/12.

Big thing here: Live Nation isnt going to book a competing festival on the same weekend as another big Live Nation festival. That knocks out 9/28, 10/5, 10/12. 8/22 would be possible but seems early. Also LN will probably prioritize Lolla before GB, so that adds another factor to the front of the line there.
I could wait for the festival to return in 2021 with the same lineup + some additions.
They may have to let the kids back in to sell tickets
They may have to dramatically reduce prices to sell tickets even if they let the kids back in. People are going to have vastly less disposable income two or three months from now.

many people will have vastly less, but some will have more than usual

It just had to keep getting harder and harder to try and keep most of their line up too. September only has so many weekends in it and nobody was going to really go deeper into the fall because of their location and weather.
