Sigh, this is the part of the calendar when I usually start obsessively checking the weather for GovBall weekend. It feels weird not to be refreshing Weather Underground every damn day.
11/19: Caribou 11/22: Ranger Trucco 11/29: Armand Van Helden* 1/16: L'Impératrice 1/30: Jamie xx 2/1: DJ Seinfeld 2/7: Mild Minds* 3/1: Father John Misty* 3/19: Confidence Man 3/23: DARKSIDE 5/8: Rüfüs Du Sol
Tame is booked for Primavera Sound next year. Does this mean that they are out?
Not necessarily, however it seems highly likely. My bets on two Garden dates getting added to a rerouted US tour in 2021. Gov Ball was a NYC, Philly area exclusive so probably a Philadelphia date added as well

I’d say it is unlikely that a June Gov Ball occurs in 2021
I could see them doing what Coachella is supposedly doing and using the pushed back dates for next year but June is a more realistic timeline than April is so they could be in the clear to do June. Also they could just fly Tame across the pond for Gov. LouFest flew OutKast from the UK so crazier things have happened

The Timehop app is just murdering me today. So many great memories from the past three years of GovBalls - Eminem in the rain, Sylvan Esso's amazing sunset set, Phoenix from 2017...
Goddamnit. I know there are so many bigger problems in the world, both around this pandemic and in other areas, but...just, goddamnit.

I think you're not the only one, just to think how bad I'm gonna miss that 20 min. walk from the bridge RFK to the island.
If COVID-19 never happened I would be on full panic mode right now due to how awful Friday is set to be weather-wise and having to repeat Strokes Sunday 2019.
Looks like a wet one, today. Bring your poncho. Hope we don't get evacuated, again.
It's comforting to know that even without the Pandemic this year would have been it's usual logistical clusterf*ck.
No idea how they would have handled the curfew. I guess smash everything together and end the festival at 7? 50,000 drunk people emptying out at 125th at night would have been a disaster right now. They honestly may have cancelled it.
And then there are good old thunderstorms. Poor Founders.

I think they should just change the dates of this fest - maybe move it to late August/early September? It's hard to guess the forecast in NYC most of the time, but I think June has been only getting worse over the last few years.

I mean this is one of the few festivals that sells out pretty much every year. They cant change the dates.

I think if they're gonna do that, next year would be the starting point. I think a possible 2021 edition would sell out no matter when since people are gonna be hungry for fests

Routing for the bands is the issue. Because a lot of acts do short tours in early August to do Osheaga, Lolla and OSL then go back to europe to finish up at those festivals. Panorama was late July to account for that, so it would need to be similar in that timing if you tried that. Right now its tied to Bonnaroo, so there would end up being a weird gap in early june in NY if somebody did Governors in late July. September would have to work around Riot Fest, some of those other random fests in the south, iheart radio, LIB that took you to california, nevada and into ACL.

I know there's still some time for things to go south, weather-wise, but if the pattern holds and we don't get lightning before 11, I'm going to be sitting here flummoxed at how we would have pulled victory from the jaws of defeat, and pining for the Tame Impala magic that could have been.
Question for the New Yorkers. Given that there is little chance this happens in June, what weekend would you plan for this to happen weather-wise? It's no secret GovBall has had horrendous luck with rain and I wonder if there's a more strategic weekend they could shift to. I see it as an opportune time now that they aren't catering to the under 18 crowd.

Probably around now. If Labor Day is out because of Bonnaroo. I’d say second weekend of September through the first weekend of October would all work. In my opinion this is the best weather New York gets all year.

June 3-5, 2022.
I'm not even kidding. I think there's no way any US music festival happens next year, unless a) they somehow come up with a rapid test you can take at the gates that tells you whether you're positive in literal minutes, or b) they completely change what a music festival is, in some way, to make it somehow safer. Even then, I dunno.
THAT SAID, if we want to speculate on fall dates, I'd say mid-late September - maybe the weekend before Septemberoo. Basically, around when The Meadows tended to happen. We're still going to deal with the risk of bad weather - that's just NYC these days. But it'd be good in terms of the humidity having broken a bit, but the temps remaining warm enough to make day-long outdoor activity not suck.
