OK, so...odds this actually goes down? I feel like we'll be in one of 3 scenarios:
1) Vaccination program works, numbers are way down, full speed ahead! 2) Vaccination program much slower than expected, pandemic still ongoing, fest definitely canceled. 3) Some kind of fuzzy gray area where it's not perfectly clear how safe or unsafe something like this would be.
I feel like that third one is both the most likely and the hardest to predict.
So you're saying that you predict the fest will happen, won't happen, or might happen? I have a tendency to agree with you.

Ha! Fair enough. But no. I'm saying that, if the context is most in line with #3, I'd be curious as to what metrics would determine whether it happened, or not.

Option #3 is the one that seems most likely which, if it's the case, the city will err on the side of caution and not allow the festival to happen.
Is getting a hotel in Astoria the most cost effective location option for this? As in , just walk across the JFK bridge to the fest for free each day?
I think I remember there being a free shuttle bus from Williamsburg last time I went. It was right next to Brooklyn Bowl. If you get an Airbnb in WB or Greenpoint it’s pretty easy. Also after the show you’ll be smack dab in the middle of a million bars to go to.

Yeah I would also say that the subway is pretty cheap and easy too

There will also most likely be late night sets in Williamsburg, Greenpoint and Bushwick after the festival ends each night.

Are we sure this is taking place on Randall's Island? The web site just says "New York City," whereas they've specified Randall's in announcements in the past, and the FAQ contains no location information.
I wouldn't be stunned if we were looking at a venue change this year.

thats a longer walk than you think. hotel in East Harlem is the most cost effective location I think, much easier walk
Can confirm walking over the RFK from Astoria to the fest each day is a pain. ~45 minute walk each way minimum (unless Gov Ball's setup is different from how Pano was in some way)

I don't think it would ever happen again cuz of the city and crap, but imagine if they bring it to where they hosted the meadows lmao

45 minutes??? How slow are y'all walking? I used to hike from my apartment to the eastern festival gates in 45 minutes, and I lived at least a 10-minute walk from the entrance to the pedestrian walkway on the RFK.
I dunno. Maybe it's because living in NYC for so long really seasoned my walking legs, but I've been doing that walk since I started attending the festival in 2014, and it's never felt particularly onerous, and it sure as shit never took me more than 45 minutes.

Not sure why my experience was so different! I'm not in the best shape but I didn't think we were walking particularly slowly either.
It took us 15 minutes from the AirBnB to the bridge and we probably spent more time going from the bridge to the festival gate than on the bridge itself if that helps. I've never been to Gov Ball and it's entirely possible that Pano was set up differently
I feel that, while we will see Governors Ball and shows starting later this summer, that international acts probably won't get back to touring here until 2022. Gov Ball will likely be very heavy on N. American acts this year, I think.

Note that three of the five guys in the Tame Impala liveband are currently in Australia, as noted by their recent Tame Impala Sound System shows played in Perth.
Thus, they better be allowed back in the USA by fall.

Wasn’t Kevin in Mexico working on the new Travis album recently?
Assuming they’ll be following health protocols, I’m sure they’ll be able to get the band and crew over here.

There have been bands and DJs traveling to and from Australia to do festivals down there this winter. Like Alison Wonderland for example per her Twitter. They all had to fly in and quarantine for 14 days before playing the festivals but they did make it work. There are exemptions for international travel according to Australian website. I’m sure everything is already in place for Tame to be in the states for the summer

Dua Lipa has crossed the Atlantic a couple times in the past year. She was in NYC 3 weeks before SNL right after the streamed concert thing.

Tame Impala is booked for Life Is Beautiful in Las Vegas literally the weekend before GovBall. If they can play that, they can play here.

Yeah, didn't realize that til after I said that. Still, my point stands, I think.

well since Boston Calling, Coachella, and probably Osheaga will be out. I might look into this being my fest for the year. I liked the 2020 lineup quite a bit
If this fest is happening, who would headline this? I'd assume Tame would be one of them. Billie? Foos?
The Strokes, The Killers, Travis Scott.
I’d be willing to bet Tame Impala will still be one of the headliners. They’ll be in the US, having played Life Is Beautiful in Vegas the weekend before.
Also, I’d be kind of disappointed if we didn’t get one female headliner after they finally broke that ceiling with Florence in ‘19. Maybe Megan Thee Stallion gets what seems like GovBall’s annual “promote someone deserving to headliner status for the first time” slot?
If Coachella isn't happening due to concerns about large scale events in California, I can't see NYC somehow allowing events. There is a huge political risk (for lack of a better term) to give the go-ahead for stuff like this given what the city went through last spring but I'll try to stay positive.

I dont think thats exactly why Coachella isnt happening. Also New York has been significantly less restrictive than California this whole way through.

oh I don’t WANT this. I was just thinking of an extremely low effort, rushed job who the can call at the last minute to play anywhere, anytime.
