I just scooped up a bunch of Friday day passes. Half because I want to go with some friends but also because I think the resale is going to be absolutely bonkers.
I think the pent up demand for live music + power of Billie + like every teenager begging mommy and daddy for the credit card and after a year inside feel like no ones going to be saying no.
I could be wrong - I’ve also gotten Meadows tickets for free/dirt cheap when the demand cratered a few years back - but I think it’s gonna sell out fast.
you're scalping tickets?
Nah - when I think a festival is gonna be super high demand I usually grab like 4-6 just so I don’t get priced out and can bring friends. Then if I can’t fill them or don’t go I just sell them for enough to make all money back - def don’t scalp for profit and it’s not like NY festivals are usually moneymakers in that regard.
Moreso just commenting that I think this will be a unique NY festival that has insane demand. And that I’m juggling myself with a mediocre lineup vs craving to go to a festival 20 min away.
Can’t let those teens have any fun after a year of being locked at home during one of the most important social development times of their lives. Gotta be pretty spoiled for mommy and daddy to want to do something nice for you after that.
Apologies what I meant was that they are all now independently rich from a year of crypto trading and will drive the market themselves.

It's mostly the ones who were absolutely wasted and puked on my feet and kept asking me to sell them my ID wristband that sucked. But grown ass drunk folks have always messed some shows up for me so it's not really just the age thing. I just remember this fest the drunk adults stayed in The beer prison areas mostly and whenever I tried to get a decent spot it kind of sucked.
But I think the few times I've gone to the fest I've disliked it a bit more each time based on Location or set up changes. I'm just a grumpy old man now I guess. Get off my lawn.
Tbh I’m surprised about people mentioning how much hip hop there is. I can name like 2 big rock albums that fit the festival demo over the last year or two. Even the underground scene has been pretty dry. I’d rather have 21 than Cold War Kids or something like that playing festivals in 2021
Ah, c'mon. There are plenty of rock acts that potentially could've been booked here. Are there reasons they're not playing beyond GovBall not going after them? I'm sure that's possible. But it's not that there's a dearth of names.
- Tame Impala was on the 2020 lineup and is playing US fests in September. I'm genuinely surprised they're not on the bill. - St. Vincent has a new album coming out. - Porridge Radio - Yves Tumor (yeah, I know he's not strictly rock, but his last record is straight-up a rock record) - Haim (kinda pop-rock, but still) - Beabadoobee - Fontaines, DC - black MIDI (also a loss from 2020) - Angel Olsen - Nilufer Yanya - PUP - Mannequin Pussy - Soccer Mommy - Charly Bliss - Beach Bunny - Foals (another big 2020 loss)
And those are just a bunch of bands with 2019/2020 releases. Or, shit, book some legacy act with cross-generational appeal - I'm not a big RHCP fan, but they had a huge and enthusiastic crowd at The Meadows 2017, and it wasn't just olds.
I know rock isn't the most popular thing at the moment, but to say there weren't more rock acts that could've fit the bill and even been pretty high up on the poster isn't, I think, accurate.
I wasn’t saying they shouldn’t book a few rock artists. And obviously there were a few good choices. But I feel like rock is represented enough given the musical climate atm.

Agree for the most part, there is some really rock/alt in the undercard but I think the lack of a single rock or alt act on Sunday is a bit jarring.
Also if you replace J Balvin on Saturday with like The Black Keys or Vampire Weekend it looks a lot more balanced and traditional Gov Ball-y and less like Meadows Year 1.

I honestly think if there were one good rock headliner, the conversation around this lineup would be dramatically different. I dig P. TM and Phoebe Bridgers, but those being the highest-profile representatives of the genre is a pretty big departure.
I'll go ahead and say it: I would've taken the Strokes.
Yeah i fomo'd. In for sunday! If anyone wants to meet up i'm planning on seeing Umi, Bachelor, 100 gecs, Kota, Princess Nokia, Dominic Fike, Jamie xx, Carly Rae Jepsen, Young Thug and 21

I don't really get why Tame isn't playing this unless they are prepping to bail from the US until 2022
They're playing Outside Lands in October, so I can't imagine this is the case.
I'm wondering if Firefly snagged them. Same weekend as GovBall.
I don't think it's out of the question that all of their pre September dates get moved to next year with additional east coast shows added instead of Firefly or Govball

Just get drunker than they are. It’s not hard.
Last time I went to gov ball, the underage kid in front of me tried to sneak in a thermos of vodka in. The woman working the gate told him he couldn't bring it in, obviously. Then she watched him chug half of it instead of throwing it out. Surprisingly, they let him in. Point being, I don't think it's possible to be more drunk than these kids
Also, that same weekend, I saw at least 2 groups dragging their friends along the ground because they couldn't move

I just love listening to people on Inforoo complain about teens being too wasted to function at fests when 70% of the time I’ve seen someone from this website at a show ..... they’ve been too wasted to function.
I understand the point about removing the 18+ restriction in order to sell tickets but how much revenue do promoters get from ticket sales? I thought acts take about 80% of ticket sales and promoters make most money from concessions/parking. The under 18 plus crowd will definitely gobble up tickets for this but concessions rely on (mostly) 21+ to spend big.

everyone on this board acting like they didn't get drunk at concerts when they were teenagers

Nahhh, most acts have a flat fee for festivals. A lot of festivals rely on sponsorship for funding but at GovBall’s level, they make a good chunk of change on ticket sales
