The only time I've done it was for Panorama 2017...which worked out given how much I loved that lineup. After that, I haven't felt like pressing my luck.
I've bought blind from 2016-2019 but after getting screwed by the hip-hop/pop heavy lineup last year, definitely waiting. Don't know if at age 36 I'll have 3 days of trekking to Randalls Island in me.
Yeah, although sometimes saving a few bucks is tempting I definitely don't buy this festival blind, most of the time I even wait for the single day lineups because the days can be so uneven for me. Skipped last year but it seems promising that I will like at least one day's lineup this year.

I wonder how much of a hit they'll take this year due to the age policy. I have to imagine it'll be at least a bit of dip, attendance-wise - I know lots of folks are talking about coming back now that there's a restriction in place, but is that enough to balance out the huge percentage of the audience that was under 18 the past couple of years? And/or, will that pivot take place in one installment, or will it take more time for the festival's overall reputation to adjust?

My hope is that the age restriction means they got a huggge act (Rage?) that will pull in big numbers for the older crowd to balance the loss

I like the Gorillaz guess too, unless I missed something that rules them out.
I get the logic behind it, but wouldn't Gorillaz be in the headliner discussion? GovBall typically doesn't tease headliners in these clues - they made a big to-do out of the fact that they did headliner-specific clues for Florence last year when they sent out those video cassettes.
I guess, if Gorillaz were a Honda Stage closer opposite somebody, I could see it...but I think it's a bit of a reach unless they're no longer a headliner-tier artist and I just missed it.

My thought with the headliner clues is if its between 2 or 3 artists it is most likely the one youd be least hyped about or lowest on the poster
This clue has to be DaBaby. Gov Ball being on the marquee of the Broadway theatre would imply that Gov Ball is the "Bop on Broadway" (as in DaBaby's new music video). I think looking into specific plays or the theatre itself past the exterior is thinking too much about it.
In my mind, DaBaby, YBN, and Earthgang basically all but confirms that J. Cole is headlining one of these nights.
Hmm...if that were the case...J. Cole | Vampire Weekend | Tame Impala?
That'd be pretty close to getting a 3-day pass purchase out of me, unless the undercard really stunk it up.
That's a pretty solid headliner pack, in my opinion. I could also see Lorde getting thrown into the mix as well (new album), but I like the idea of Cole/VW/Tame.

Cole + the headliner duo of MoPop 2019. That would be fine but for a lot of the years of this festival it would be considered disappointing

I'd actually probably skip this again if these were the headliners, unless the undercard was super strong. No interest in J. Cole, never been into VW, and I've seen Tame a lot in recent years.

I honestly feel like Tame Impala and Vampire Weekend are a bit TOO far into the indie/rock field for this festival, even with the new 18+ rule.
Eh, Tame Impala has crossed over thanks to Rihanna's cover of "New Person, Same Old Mistakes" and KP's work with Mark Ronson. They're like the indie band that younger people and hip-hop and pop fans feel it's OK to like.
Vampire Weekend seems like they make sense due to the way their 2020 tour schedule falls out, so I'd be kind of surprised if they're not there. They can be the legacy act for the olds.

Vampire Weekend played their MSG show and I'm seeing them in 2 days at Barclays. Tame played 2 MSG shows this summer. J Cole headlined The Meadows somewhat recently.
This group isn't offensive by any means but it's not going to illicit any real excitement unless Tame/Cole have a transcendent album. If you're in NYC and like these acts, you've had the chance to see them for $45 in the recent past.
I'm hoping it's St. Vincent, since the "New York" video includes a shot of her pushing that cube (or a replica thereof).
I just don't see St. Vincent playing Gov Ball this day in age, especially given the tepid response someone like Mitski got last year.
Disagree...for one shes an alum which they already mentioned they were planning to bring back...two they are attempting to change their demo (at least not skewing as young as the past) and 3 it makes sense to.give a hint for an indie rock act after the first clue is most likely a rap act

I hear that...and, you can stack on top of it the fact that she hasn't put out any new music in a while.
But, I've also yet to see a different guess that would make sense for that clue. The other two names I've seen floated - Deadmau5 and Squarepusher - both have radius clause conflicts in the first half of the year. Thoughts on who else it might be?
Ya’ll are hilarious, thats Deadmau5. His new cube rotates now.
YOU ARE THE HILARIOUS ONE. Deadmau5 is playing four nights in Brooklyn in February. That'd likely put him afoul of GovBall's radius clause.
Admittedly, the shows are produced by Live Nation, which also produces GovBall, so it's more likely than if he were playing Brooklyn Steel, an AEG venue. But, still, usually, if that were the case, his shows would be labeled "GovBall Presents," and they're not.
There's also, as someone else pointed out, the fact that he's likely big enough to headline, and GovBall never teases the headliners with these clues.
So...I dunno. It could be Deadmau5. I'd say nothing's for certain right now. But there are several reasons it also might not be - I'd almost say "probably isn't," but I"ll give the benefit of the doubt, here - him.
