They were announced at the European Lolla's and all of the headliners from the Sweden version went on to play the US Lolla last year. Again not concrete but looks like it's leading that way.
With their love of Baseball Stadiums you think they would do that. Citi is a great place for a summer show and they're one of the rare bands that Yankees Stadium would allow do a show.
But maybe if as you say they don't like NYC and just want to get in and out Gov Ball would open that opportunity.
Yeah, sorry for the intensity of my reaction. Pearl Jam is my favorite band of all time, and they haven't been back here since 2016. Every year, I hold out hope that GovBall will finally achieve their long-stated goal of landing the band...and, every year, my soul dies a little more when they don't.
I would gladly accept a Citi Field show, or an arena show, or just about damn near anything, at this point, though.
at least they've played Boston since you saw them, they haven't played California since 2013, and they've done Europe TWICE since then.

think Tame Impala is a lock. Playing MTL June 3rd and a gap til June 6th in DC
Well, they're definitely getting at least a one-day pass out of me. My question is whether Vampire Weekend will be a headliner for this thing, given the fact that their tour schedule also makes them playing the festival really seem likely. I know they play arenas, and all, but I'd find two out of the three headliners being Tame Impala and Vampire Weekend...I don't know. Seems odd.

If VW plays mainstage against a decent sized rapper like a Big Sean or ASAP Rocky or an EDM act (thinking of Tool vs. Wiz in 2017, Travis Scott vs. Gaslight Anthem in 2018, Florence vs. Major Lazer in 2019), they will headline. It's NYC and they've headlined this before.
Milky Chance announced tour dates today and there is no NY show on their itinerary.
That tour seems to be missing the entire East Coast so I imagine they'll be announcing another leg, not necessarily playing Gov Ball. That being said, I believe they played the Meadows in 2016 or 2017 so they do have a relationship with Founders.
I know 21 Pilots would be a headliner, but that's just where my head went -- and it's the first GovBall clue I could even come up with a guess since the first two.

Interesting to do it in LA (as if Southern California was starved for fests). Eliminates every Coachella band.
Doesn’t make any sense. I thought they would keep it on the east coast and probably in the D.C. area like in the past. The routing would’ve made much more sense if they kept over here.

In theory, a headliner could do both fests (similar to MIA Fest 2014 that had Kanye in Philly and L.A. back to back). But this Virgin Fest bullcrap will definitely interfere with both GovBall as well as Primavera Sound.

Shouldn't interfere Primavera Sound as it's gonna be Top 40 leaning apparently. It might affect GovBall.

Fewer Top 40 acts at GovBall is not something about which I'd be all that sad.
Got a Sunday pass + ferry last year and it totaled out to $200 for the day. Ridiculous for a one-day fest price.
I always felt like the ferry was such a rip off considering it didn't end up saving much time, particularly on the way out with the lines and what not but maybe it's gotten better.

I could see the ferry being a draw for non-NYers...get to see the city and who doesnt like being on a boat?!

Can someone tell me about getting to and leaving the fest please? From what I've read it seems like a PITA no matter which route you take.

It is, but my favorite way was to park in Astoria, go to Sal Chris and Charlie's deli for a sandwich, and walk over the bridge with headphones on while smoking a jay. Otherwise I had to take the long island railroad to Manhatten, the subway uptown, then wait for the ferry. Took a long fucking time
Edit:. I got that confused with the shuttle bus from Harlem. For the ferry I'd walk from Penn station over to the east side harbor. Still sucked

I took the subway to 125th st and walked each day this year. It's a great idea for getting there (provided you give yourself enough time) but leaving can be kinda rough, especially if you're on your feet at the festival all day. I will say getting home on Sunday night this year was absolutely ridiculous because of the rain, and I reeeeeaally wished I had tickets to the Williamsburg shuttle (I'll probably do that if I go this year).

Secret weapon if you’re coming from/going to Manhattan is the 103rd Street footbridge. It’s far less crowded, generally speaking, than the farther uptown option.
