I'd have such mixed emotions about that. I've loved that bridge walk to and from Queens, and I'd miss being a 35-minute hike from the gates. But I think we all know the limitations and issues Randall's Island brings with it, and having the option for a temporary evacuation in the event of inclement weather like at other city festivals would be nice. Van Cortlandt's not exactly central, but at least there's subway access.
On one hand, it's gotta be better than their current in/out situation on Randall's. Never been to the park but I'd imagine they'd be a little less limited in their stage/grounds layout. Maybe they can even add one smaller stage.
On the other hand, coming from Coney Island my trip is already at least an hour and a half so if this comes to fruition, fuck me. I'd actually be a little tight if I bought presale assuming it'd be on Randall's again, only to find out it's farther north

It must make for an easier walk to and from the festival, and Van Cortlandt Park is huge. I'd be into it. It's beautiful in the summertime.
Yeah Van Cortlandt is a hike from Brooklyn, but I'm not sure it's much more of a hike than Randall's... Advantage and a curse is you could drive there, traffic in the area will likely be awful!

This seems pretty dumb. Randall's for all its faults is pretty central in the city, if this goes to essentially Yonkers then this is going to be even more of a Westchester affair.

As long as the entrance is near the subway stop this is a really great idea. I would trade a long subway ride for clusterfuck that getting on and off Randall’s island is. Randall’s just isn’t accessible enough. Walking over the triboro in either direction is a pain (more so from the queens side), the footbridge isn’t much better, and any shuttle/ferry options also take forever.

I think this might be a nightmare.
At least with Randalls you have 103/125 bridges with different subways, Queens, Uber pick ups, the ferry. If you put this up near 223rd street, EVERYONE will be relying on that 4 train back to Manhattan. It'll be a horrendous/dangerous effort to get on it. I guess Yankees Stadium/Citi manages it will be even still there's more options.
Also, feels a little silly to go full throttle and request this park to handle 50/60K Gov Ball in thunderstorm season. Why not start by doing a scaled back 2-day Meadows with like 25-30k people, work out the issues and then move Gov Ball.
If I'm the Parks foundation I'd be nervous as hell to let Founders do this.

Looks like they're gonna sell out their presale allotment across all pass types. I've bought blind the past couple years and while I wasn't super overwhelmed with excitement for each edition, it's a pretty good deal to me and the weekend is always a good time. Might have to jump on GA passes tonight
what's the general consensus on buying blind faith for this? has anyone given into peer pressure and done it?
Did it 2016-18 and was happy with my decision. Got burned in 2019 since the line up leaned a little too heavy hip-hop/pop so, strictly due to my personal tastes, I’m holding off. If you were into the last few years lineups, I still think it’s a good deal particularly with the installment plan.

Im gonna hold off I did some digging and you save like less than 40$. Shrodingers line up.

Since the Kanye year, tickets have never matched retail value on Stubhub and gradually have been going down. Got one the week before for $185 after fees last year.
Unless they pull out a wow lineup this won't change. And if the names being floated (Tame, J Cole, Vampire) make up the headlining crop without a big get like Pearl Jam, Rage, or Frank then it'll be cheaper to buy second hand for sure.

Oh yeah I haven’t even considered buying through them in a long time but the names being thrown around this year make me think I maybe should have. I got a ticket day of show for 99$ fees included the year Tool played. Hard to beat that plus a subway ride.

Oof. The Bronx? Hard pass
As someone who traveled to The New York Expo Center for a Eric Prydz HOLO show last week, I agree. Hard pass.

I dunno. I’m kind of hyper-focused on the ability to temporarily evacuate, so I’m still down to trek to the Bronx. VCP, itself, is nice, and it’s not like I’d be spending a ton of time in the surrounding neighborhood (unless an evacuation did happen). I just think the weather thing is going to continue to be an issue given the way the local climate has shifted, and if being able to still have mostly-full festival days in the wake of a weather event means a little more time getting there, that’s ok with me.
The neighborhoods around Van Cortlandt Park are fine, whether on the 1 side or the 4 side, and safer than East Harlem where everyone has to walk through to get to the subway from Randalls Island. It's not the south Bronx, people. The big concern is only having one train line when tens of thousands of people leave (although Metro North is not far away either) and traffic congestion.

In other news, I'm hearing the Bonnaroo lineup is dropping on Tuesday, and it'd surprise me if that goes out before GovBall's does, so it's looking really, really imminent.
I just really hope for more/better rock artists this time around. It's been solid on that front up through 2018, but last year was weak sauce. I'm girding myself for disappointment, though...

Monday drop?
I’m assuming Bottlerock will be dropping on Monday, but I don’t think that would affect anything as that is on the west coast. I’m expecting this and Boston Calling to be dropping next week.
