Bob Boilen and Evan Stephens Hall (of Pinegrove) talk about me and my dog in the latest episode of NPR's All Song Considered. I've peaked. I'm done. RIP me.
In other news, RKS is the worst booking this fest has made since I started attending ten years ago. What an awful band. Just a puzzling, head-scratching booking.

Got any evidence on that first one?
And is RKS really worse than like Brett Dennen? Or Raury? Or the half assed tribute to an actual sexual predator?

Are you fucking kidding me? Get out of here with that. Do your research. Read up on shit before throwing words like that around. Jesus.

Come on man, ya gotta try harder
Raury's probably the worst thing I've seen in my nine trips to Newport

What is the "half-assed tribute to an actual sexual predator" you're referencing?
Also, happy to be in the minority of people that thought Raury was good and refreshing. I'd rather him than another band named "Big Tree Holler" from Cape Cod doing their best Edward Sharpe impression.

Chuck Berry tribute I imagine. That was not one of their better efforts

Literally Google "pinegrove & coercion". Perhaps "predator" was the wrong term, I can edit my post to say "sexual coercer" if that makes you feel better about it.
And yeah, RKS is Spotify algorithm filler music. Like Raury is whatever, Brett Dennen is lazy folk-adjacent, and I don't know what the third one you're referring to is (did they do a Ryan Adams tribute?), but for me this is just a waste. It's third-line Firefly music.

Ah right, forgot about that one, I think I caught one or two songs from our blanket. I recall people complaining about it on here though, post-fest.

lmao okay man
Words from the accuser herself from a New Yorker article this week, noting Hall's "implicit manipulation" and the damage done to her by it. But hey I'm glad he gave you a shout out on a podcast, rock on.

Keep radiating that positivitiy bruh bruh
Hell yeah man gotta be positive about those abusers.
Unless you mean RKS, in which case the idea that you have to unanimously praise every single booking a fest makes is weird and silly. They're knocking it out of the park so far this year, this was a bad misstep. That's it.

I met Evan at a record release event last week. He was drinking from a Newport Folk water bottle! I asked if we'd see Pinegrove at the Fort this summer - he said "it doesn't look like it this year".

This whole thing was very complicated and I followed it about as closely as I do any of these messy low-level celebrity happenings. What I do remember is the guy from Pinegrove publicly reckoned with it, put the band on hiatus, and sought out professional therapy to deal with his internalized misogyny. I don't know what more the guy can do to earn forgiveness from the public and the accuser, but it seems like he went to great lengths in an effort to achieve just that.

This. it's not a Jesse Lacey situation in which he should be cast away forever. Being a shitty boyfriend is far different from r*ping or sexually assaulting people.

To be fair, he put the band on hiatus and went to therapy because that's what the accuser told him he had to do.
And some people are (apparently) fine with looking past this kind of stuff. For me, there's plenty of music out there that doesn't have this stink all over it that I don't need to support. So as much as I may have loved Ryan Adams, Pinegrove, Brand New, Foxing, Michael Jackson, R. Kelly, Surfer Blood, whoever, there's other fish in the sea.

When you engage in "implicit manipulation" and "sexual coercion" you're not being a "shitty boyfriend", you're being an abuser. Trying to equate that kind of behavior with like, forgetting anniversaries or whatever is pretty gross.

Dude no one outside of sexual pathologists even knew what that stuff was until like 5 years ago. When you are raised in a patriarchal society, bad behavior is internalized. He was called out on his behavior and reckoned with it. Aren't there bigger fish you could try to fry besides the frontman of a low-level indie folk outfit who LITERALLY DID ALL THE RIGHT THINGS after accusations surfaced?
Alright, i used the wrong word. The point I was trying to make, is where do we draw the line between forgiveness and forever labeling someone a social pariah? What good does it do to say you can't become a better person after the fact?

Also, equating the dude from Pinegrove's actions with what R. Kelly has been accused of is fucking gross.
this. a billion times this. but i think we all know the guy is just trying to get a rise out of people.
First, nobody "equated" anything. Simply listing off people/acts who have been credibly accused of varying degrees of sexual misconduct doesn't mean one is saying they're all the same. For the record, some of the people listed there need to be put in jail, some don't. But it's a great strawman argument to make to try and undermine the point being made, so kudos.
And as I noted above, if you're fine with supporting people who have done this stuff in the past, great for you. I'm not comfortable with it and I think anyone boasting about it needs to have a long hard look at themselves. Again, there's zero shortage of great musicians who haven't ever done this stuff.
It's more weird/concerning how many people just want to brush this off and attribute it to being raised in a patriarchal society or whatever.
