Just speaking for myself. I've no desire to go to that festival. From what I've read (at least last year) tickets were tiered. There was a zone set aside for highest priced ticket holders closest to the stage. Attendees reported that it felt weird. Newport has fantastic intimate moments I've never seen at any other festival. It's hard to say why its special. A combination of things I guess. A mix of history, surprises artists, friendly audience, collaborations and plain old fun. It's never easy to see it this time of year but you know that by the time you leave the place you'll have had the time of your life. I don't know how many times I've seen musicians brought to tears of joy on stage.

Agree 100%. I've seen musicians brought to tears and I know I'm in tears at least 1X per day! It's an incredibly special event that can never be matched, which is why I think Beach Road ruffled feathers at NFF in riding their wake w/ a derivative approach.
Willie Nelson’s daughter is in a band with Arlo Guthrie’s daughter. They are a duo called “Folk Uke”
They are opening for Jamey Johnson on 8/2 at Indian Ranch - Webster MA.
Folk Uke definitely seem to fit into that Nancy and Beth category that we’ve had in the past. They’re not a comedy duo, but definitely have witty lyrics.
Also, Willie is in PA on 8/5. He could come back this year....I’m not the biggest Willie fan, but I know plenty are.
Looked back and don’t see on anyone’s. Why, what’s up?
Tour dates look promising: 07/28 – Richmond, VA @ The Broadberry 07/29 – Washington, DC @ 9:30 Club 07/30 – Philadelphia, PA @ Union Transfer 08/04 – Brooklyn, NY @ Brooklyn Bowl 08/05 – Brooklyn, NY @ Brooklyn Bowl 08/06 – Millvale, PA @ TBA

At the minimum...bring us Jamey!!
To beat an old drum of mine, wouldn't mind seeing Arlo himself, especially since he "would love to play" Newport again, and he is often in the vicinity. Last year was the right time. What....a few words were said? He's an aging legend.
I'm always one to pooh-pooh these things, but was alerted by some folks I am supposed to see in Atlanta in late April that suggested travel limits might be in effect by then. Corona is an OK beer, but a crummy virus. Sure hope it doesn't start closing down festivals.Sorry for the dark thought.
cannot say im totally familiar with SV (or the record, which appears to come out in my youth). but i am aware of the name and their importance in the alt country. Correct me if i am wrong but it seems like Farrar and Tweedy were in Uncle Tupelo and when it split, Tweed started Wilco and Farrar led Son Volt. looking forward to digging into the record, its definitely my vibe and i love a good full album set.
cant say im not itching for a big name or a surprise (which to be honest this might be for other folks, to each their own!) but there's always next week
btw saw Aaron Lee Tasjan last night at Rockwood Music Hall. just an incredible solo set from ALT, who has quickly moved to very top of my favorite singer songwriter list.
played some great new songs, looking forward to another recording. didnt get chance to ask him about NFF, but hoping he's involved in some capacity.

I'm really bummed Perfume Genius is busy opening for Tame Impala on Newport weekend this year. I had him on my bingo card and thought that was a high probability space. Regardless, I really like his new song "Describe" released a couple days ago. Hopefully he'll come to Newport next year after touring his new album for a bit.

One of the songs from last year's little black book. History of "Keep Your Eyes on the Prize"
Based on a classic hymn, this song's exact origins are unknown. It is believed that an arrangement that led to the current version was written sometime prior to World War I. However, it was modified for the civil rights movement in the 1950s by an activist named Alice Wine. Wine added verses and changed some lyrics to adapt it specifically to the plight of Civil Rights activists. The hymn and the modern song have both had many titles attributed to them, including "Hold On," "Gospel Plow," and "Keep Your Hand on the Plow.". Over the years, the song has become the sort of unofficial anthem of the civil rights movement. The title was also used for a 2009 PBS documentary series, "Eyes on the Prize: America's Civil Rights Years 1954-1965." As it was adapted from an old spiritual song about continuing on despite adversity, the lyrics of "Keep Your Eyes on the Prize" allude to many passages from the Bible. Notably, people point to Philippians verses 3:17 and 3:14, though the original hymn seems to reference Luke 9:62. Several versions of this quintessential civil rights anthem have been recorded by a number of well-known artists. The list includes excellent versions by Mahalia Jackson, Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, and more recently Bruce Springsteen.
Sufjan Stevens and his long-time collaborator/stepfather, Lowell Brams, unveiled a new song, “The Unlimited,” from their upcoming New Age-inspired album, Aporia, out March 27th via their label Asthmatic Kitty.
just got a notice about a new fest in wappinger falls ny called hangout on the hudson (https://www.hangoutonthehudson.com/). seems small, so far has Death Cab and Real Estate (and no social media accts).
a few years back i went to "speed of sound" fest (not to be confused with solidsound) at the duchess country airport in waps for avetts, chris robinson, amy helm and others, but that fest seems to have gone away.
[EDIT] in a total brainfart, i posted this in the guise of "this sounds fun i might go" and totally ignored date being aug1 (aka our beloved newps). i wonder if this makes DCFC or Real Estate more or less likely to appear...

My guess is that Death Cab is the XPNFest headliner that doesn’t crossover to Newport.
