But in all seriousness, if NFF does get cancelled, I really hope Jay releases the list of acts currently booked. I know it’ll create FOMO, but for some of these acts, this is their introduction and co-sign into the folk community. I can’t imagine a year without a full lineup of new folk acts for me to check out and support on Spotify, in concert (once things become normal again), and/or Instagram/Facebook live concerts.
definitely don’t think jay would tease an announcement if it’s negative/cancelation...
Agreed it’s likely a streaming event.
Any one think it’d be a possible postponement? Might they push things a month to make it more likely to happen/ease pressures? Would certainly wreak havoc on the Airbnb world but it’s better than no fear...

I think a one month delay would be too logistically difficult.
Many of these artists booked a stop at Newport in the middle of a tour.
Coachella, Bonnaroo, and Shaky Knees were able to postpone to the offseason, far enough out that most of their acts didn’t already have competing tour dates.
I do not think Newport pushing back a month would be able to do the same. Especially if Lollapalooza and Osheaga don’t follow suit

I don't know how much further they can postpone. By state/city rule, the park closes at sundown. You go back a month or two, the fest day would end at like 7 or 630 compared to current.
Just saw the post. Given the context of the post, I assume it’s going to be a Newport Folk curated Live from Home Instagram/Facebook/Twitch festival.
I know some here like the live streamed performances but it's not nearly the same. I'd definitely prefer a month delay. But if it's cancel or stream and streaming means the ticket price goes towards putting food on the table for up and coming performers then let's do it. I still think it'd be better to wait until the end of May or beginning of June to decide. There is evidence it's seasonal from December to April. There's a large amusement park near where I live who are hiring for the Summer. Things are terrible right now and no one is saying be reckless but it's too soon to say if hosting a festival so far away is reckless. Things may well be much different by then. Here an informative BBC article I read today suggesting the outbreak may be seasonal.

My fingers are crossed. And I assume transmission rate my drop into summer. But it’s already hotter in Florida right now than the average highs in Newport in July and August and the numbers down here are still doubling every few days.
I don’t think the announcement is going to be about the festival itself. At least I hope not. I think it’s probably gonna be folk alum doing some kind of benefit live stream during this crisis. I’m keeping my hope in tact but part of thinks it’s going to be quite some time before we have large gatherings, nobody wants to be the first to make that mistake. As a heavy concert goer I hope we’re not waiting for a vaccine before they allow us to gather. I think it’s great that some of our favorite artists have given us these streams. Pinegrove in one minute on IG. Hope everyone is well.

I don't think any other festival has given a heads up before they cancelled or postponed so no way this has to do with the actually occurance of Newport
When was/were the last times Prime played Newport?
His last official set was 2017. That was one of the best Newport sets I've ever seen with people like Justin Vernon, Margo Price, and Roger Waters joining him on stage.
Then in 2018 he returned to play with Margo during her set and he joined in on the Phil Cook after show that Mumford & Sons, Courtney Barnett and practically everybody else on the lineup played
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher
MUSICIAN RELIEF FUND ANNOUNCEMENT: Artists are at the core of our community. Their performances fill us with hope, bring us together in celebration and support us during the good times and the bad. Now it’s our turn to give back. The COVID-19 crisis has proven particularly devastating for musicians whose livelihood is dependent on congregation. As a result, we’re establishing the Newport Festivals Musician Relief Fund. This fund will provide financial relief to musicians in our Folk & Jazz communities experiencing lost income as a result of COVID-19 through rapid micro and full grants. #folkfamilyrelief - - - APPLY FOR A GRANT TODAY! www.newportfestivals.org/musician-relief-fund
newportfolkfest LINEUP UPDATE: We will continue with artist announcements tomorrow morning, but today we wanted to take a pause to let you know that we understand these are uncertain times. However, as eternal optimists, we believe the most helpful thing we can do as a community right now is celebrate and raise awareness for the musicians we'd love to see at the Fort this summer. Go listen to their music, support a live-stream or buy a shirt. We're all in this together. Thank you and folk on. #folkfamilyrelief 2h
If the Newport festivals do take place as currently scheduled, what happens when the bulk of your lineup have to adjust their plans or run into scheduling issues now that festivals have been moved to every weekend this fall? Is there a plan in place to deal with those concerns, and have you had talent have to drop out already because of this?
A major headliner just did that to me last week. It was really sad, it was somebody who’s never played the event, but I’m looking at it as a door closes and a window opens.
