Yeah RI hasn't peaked yet- it's supposed to be April 28th-ish. I do think that if any concerts we get this year at least for the SUMMER, it'll be small scale- possibly very small scale- and as k2b said bands who are bigger either will choose to play smaller places or not at all.
Pollstar said something I think is interesting "The complexity of a global megatour employing scores of personnel and a fleet of rolling stock makes uncertainty the enemy in a wildly divergent global economy and state of recovery. Some of these tours will sit out 2020. But tours with 10 or less crew, playing venues with capacities of 5,000 or less, with the ability to pivot to whatever market is available and price tickets at $50 or less will be positioned to take maximum advantage of fans pining for live music and eager to resume the shared experience that makes live the greatest industry in the world. "here is the link
i think 5K venues are a BIT extreme but it's too early to tell right now i think
It took a few years for the 1918 flu to wind down because there where a few waves. In hindsight maybe this is why they partied so hard in the roaring 20s. The whole country had a new lease on life and the economy boomed due to war and virus deferred spending. Wouldn't be surprised to see a similar phenomenon once this ends.
A second Roarin '20s sounds fun.
Will the media dub it the Roarin 2020s, Roarin '20s part 2, 2 Roarin 2 '20s?
Upcoming Shows: August 7: Green Day/Smashing Pumpkins/Rancid/The Linda Lindas August 30: Waxahatchee/Snail Mail/Tim Heidecker September 17: Pearl Jam/Glen Hansard September 24: Idles/English Teacher

With Bright Eyes also confirmed, guessing this would have put everything in place for a BOCC set as well. Really glad they put together the best/most interesting lineup in years right in time for Captain Trips to sideline the fest.

Don't believe Bright Eyes was ever confirmed. There was something on the eye charts that looked like it could be Newport(NPRT), but all other stops were on the line above that and had individual posters. Might've just been coincidence that letter resembled Newport. Guess we'll see in the next week or so.
New Laura Marling album getting rave reviews. Giving it a listen. Sounds great. There's that EOB collaboration too.
Laura Marling has described her seventh solo album as a kind of conceptual work. Song for Our Daughter, she says, is about “trauma and an enduring quest to understand what it is to be a woman in this society”. The songs are written to an imaginary child, offering her “all the confidences and affirmations I found so difficult to provide myself”.
Edit: If they go with a virtual stream event then what would that look like? Are we talking about a stream from artists home? I mean artists probably won't be housebound by then. Are we talking about artists onsite playing on each stage to membership holders only or empty audience with viewers having to choose which stage to watch live. Complicated but not impossible.

I can’t imagine them doing a members only event. It is against the spirit of the festival. It also wouldn’t cover the costs of the event.
I could see them stream shows. Not sure if anyone saw the Nathaniel Rateliff set on the night that the city was shutting down. He recorded three songs by himself onstage at (I think it was) Town Hall. It was incredibly moving and much better produced than the live from home streams that have come out. Could see something like that.
I’d give artists the ability to choose what works best for them, wherever they’re at in life and on tour. My favorite #quarantine shows have been broadcast from recording studios or empty venues. Some of the bedroom shows have been a little too DIY and too low stream quality. But I think you need to make sure the artist has the resources and is comfortable and leave it up to them since they probably wouldn’t get paid too much. Asking them to come out to the fort, and fronting the production costs, seems like it’d be too expensive of an endeavor and proposition without really knowing what sales would be like for such an event.

If Newport was able to book Fiona Apple this year and this festival doesn't happen I'm going to be so upset. She has multiple connections on the lineup (Sara Watkins, Andrew Bird, Phoebe Bridgers), has been to the festival before, and has a new album (tied with Waxahatchee for my album of the year at the moment).
First I lost my chance at seeing Rage at Boston Calling... This would be too much.

Yeah, listening to the Fiona album now and came here to post essentially the same thing. This thing is incredible and she'd fit in suspiciously well with this lineup. I still haven't fully acepted that this isn't happening and them announcing her and cancelling would break my heart.
Gonna keep praying for that vaccine to be discovered any day now
Tonight there will a 2 hour concert called One World Together - curated by Lady Gaga. It will be on ABC, NBC and CBS and is NOT a fundraiser. (more below) But because so many artists of all genres wanted to perform there is a SIX-HOUR pre-show starting at 2pm Eastern. It will be on the web but ALSO on Youtube. Joining Lady Gaga will be Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift, Elton John, Billie Eilish, Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes, Stevie Wonder, Lizzo, Eddie Vedder, John Legend, Chris Martin, Kacey Musgraves, J Balvin, Keith Urban, Alicia Keys, Andrea Bocelli, Billie Joe Armstrong, Jennifer Lopez, and many more.

Haven’t gotten to the new Fiona Apple yet, I decided to listen to the old ones in order first (doing the same with the Strokes). I was obsessed with her circa the release of Extraordinary Machine, but fell off after that. She blew us away with the Watson Twins at the pre-show whichever that was but I didn’t get back into her. I am very glad I’m doing so now, these albums hold up FANTASTICALLY.
