The mayor of Chicago has named August 30th as "Whitney Day" in honor of their new album release. I always think of them as a smaller band, but maybe they're poised for a big leap on this release? They were 2nd to last on the Quad in 2017. Maybe they close the Harbor one day this year? Or a mid-day Fort spot?
Finally getting around to listen to something’s I’ve been recommended by friends and this guy popped up. Lyrics are wicked morbid but holy shit is he good. Would be a nice get for the fest next year.
With the work Brandi has been doing with Tanya Tucker and Tenille Townes there must be a fair chance we could see this at Newport Folk Festival 2020. Brandi has also been tweeting movie clips from an upcoming documentary movie about the making a new album she made with Tanya.
Also I see that Bombay Bicycle Club is back making music and they’ve been on my “Please please please please please bring to Newport, Jay” list for a long time.
Caught Mavis and Brandi at the Minnesota State Fair over the weekend. Both bands are definitely firing on all cylinders right now. Was nice to see Mavis separate from collabs and get to listen to more of her catalogue.
Have we discussed yet which acts should be brought back as the repeats from 2019, given info available now (releases, popularity trends, etc.)?

An act from the Future is Female set, whether it be Erin Rae or Angie McMahon or other.

I’ll also bet we see Yola and Maggie Rogers return in an unofficial capacity to hang out and jam.
I would also guess somebody from Future is Female gets a full set and Yola pops up at some point. I think a Fruit Bats set is overdue, I have been loving the new album. Similarly, if Anais has new material she could get a set.
Really loving the new Joan Shelley album out today. I hope she is approached for a return to NFF in 2020!

Daniel Johnston, the outsider folk artist whose childlike pleas for love captivated the likes of Kurt Cobain, Matt Groening and Tom Waits, died Wednesday of natural causes, his family confirmed in a statement. He was 58.
