The tipper kids are always rumoring shit that never happens, fwiw. They're the phish phans of electronica.
I realize that. I just put it out there because someone I know who was in town from South Carolina mentioned it. BC saw Derek though on Saturday. I'm guessing he's still living here at least part time to have been at that. IDK
Would someone be able to list out all of the other acts?
also interested in this. last year Friday/Saturday each had 8 acts on the Other (ran from 4pm-3am) and at first glance this year seems light to me considering the stage is supposed to go all night
Would someone be able to list out all of the other acts?
Not sure about Bassnectar or Tipper (Tipper more likely to be on Other).
Thursday - Dabin (mix of genres), Funk Hunters (possibly horns, funk, hiphop), He$h (dub), Kursa (bass/mixed), Mize (experimental bass), Spock, Taska Black (different), Zia (not sure what she plays)
Friday - Big Wild (hit or miss), Ganja White Knight (Belgium hard/mixed), Ekali (mixed genres), SVDDEN Death (Riddim, Dub, Wooked out), Still Woozy (plays instruments, mixed), Marc Rebillet (comedy, experimental), Lucci (I think), ATLIENS (Hekler & Marauda - bass trance), Detox Unit (Tipper-y/Trippy and cool), Phutureprimitive (kind of experimental), Luzcid (Bass from Houston Texas, works with Liquid Stranger), Pls&TY (R&B-ish/World-ish), Dynohunter (live instruments, some house, techno, rock, etc.)
Saturday - Flume (probably not on Other but maybe), Seven Lions (Electro House, Prog House, melody based dub, etc.), Troyboi (London used to be grime and trap, now leaning more on R&B), Subtronics (wook bass, dub, riddim), Yaeji (House, some trap), Moody Good (Bass, Drum & Bass, Electronica), Wooli (Riddim, Dub), Dr. Fresch (House, electronica), William Black (Kind of pop), Lick (don't really know his solo shit), DJ Mel (Bonnaroo's House DJ who spins)
Sunday - Rezz (Deadmau5 inspired but a little more bassy now), Boombox Cartel (Dub, Trap), Peekaboo (hard bass from Detroit), LSDREAM (Brillz' new project, seen it 2-3 times, was somewhat okay but tedious to me), Cuco (No idea), Bonnie x Clyde (electropop, synth, trap, pop), Elderbrook (Electronic vocalist/songwriter/producer from London)
fwiw i know i just don't have the ear for bass music to notice the differences between artists. i'm like a stereotypical parent in the early 90s who says all heavy metal "just sounds like noise".
i did enjoy some of my time at The Other last year. but every time a DJ speaks on the microphone it takes me completely out of the zone. every time a DJ stops a song and starts a new one with no transition it takes me completely out of the zone. the whole point of DJing dance music is you can transition between songs so nobody has to stop dancing. it's the reason there are two turntables with a mixer between them.
i know not all bass music artists are guilty of the above but when i see one do it it honestly hurts my heart. makes it difficult for me to commit to the genre and get past "bass music is the same".

this is how i feel about house music
transitions in house are so funny, like hey we're gonna take away this bass, and just let this snare kick a couple times, then BOOM here's the bass back to the same beat

ah, forgot to make the point that i'm sure people feel the same way about techno or house music. techno did sound similar to me when i first started listening to it, but there was enough "there" there to make me want to go deeper. now i hear the differences and notice all the little intricacies producers put into those songs, like bass music fans do with their genre. i've only really been a techno fan for four years, and i think i will always feel like a bit of a tourist at a techno show, but i've grown to love the music, scene, culture, and type of person associated with it dearly.

I fucked up that post. LOL - goes to show what happens when you try to do too much shit at once. What is missing:
Funk Hunters - "possibly" was supposed to be possibly with horns. Sometimes they do EDM sets, sometimes live funk. I think they were from Toronto and we first saw them at Wakarusa 2014.
Lucci "I Think" was supposed to mean "I think sort of reggae dance hall stuff and hiphop"

Maybe Brockhampton fans will like 99 Neighbors?
Great breakdown. Gonna dig into these artists more
I agree Foz. I'm more into the vast amount of bands I want to see this year but have Tipper and Bassnectar in my initial Top 10 (seen them both plenty of times). The acts I most like (and this is for Dan) out of the other EDM acts are Peekaboo, Subtronics, SVDDEN DEATH and probably Detox Unit. I still need to catch Yaeji.
Peekaboo - Stumbled upon him at Buku last year and then saw him at Voodoo I think. He also came up with G-Rex at Wakaan Takeover afterparty to perform Babatunde. I watched an interview with him once. He's a super cool guy who grew up in a musical house. His dad was a symphony trumpeter, and he studied sound engineering I think. Anyway, he plays a more freeform style of bass than a lot of people, though it's rooted in dub. Two of my favorite songs by him are both real hard hitting space bass kind of shit:
Maniac
Arrival (I'm putting you in command of the spaceship) which is probably my favorite by him. Takes off about a minute and a half in

peekaboo is awesome. saw him at lost lands and went to rezz just to see him
I just can't take a DJ seriously with a name like Peekaboo. Just... use your real name or something jfc.
Detox Unit is great if you like the heavy glitch music.
Dynohunter could possibly be an opening act like Justin Jay's band. Check them out if you like house, especially deep house, or jamtronica.
Big Wild was so bad, in my opinion, at Hulaween. It's just him pressing the play button on tracks with guest singers (at least for that part of the show). Those have to be the worst "EDM" shows I end up at. Really bummed I left FlyLo because friends for that.

i mean they all have terrible names, who cares lol

Lol. I hear you, but he's a big old bearded wooly dude. Shows were hard as fuck, so even if you don't take his name seriously, you probably would get into the show.
Shit. I was confusing Big Wild who is hit or miss for Opiuo. If you could scratch those NZ comments out of the first post 3post1jack1 I’d appreciate it. Sorry about that.

Damn fuck house music I guess, zero solid house names imo
Hoping where in the woods grabs some good house. But it sucks that it won’t be on the other at ALL. Dynohunter is basically house though I think. Maybe they throw that in a tent though due to the set up. Idk just heard them first time today so I know nothing.
