I never have had any problems at the other stage. Some chick during RL was spun AF but past two years no problems for us. My gf and her bff were at that stage a bit more than I was and they also reported no problems.
The Other Friday night 2019 was bad, I saw 5 or 6 people go down and seize up right before during and after RL Grime. But Medasin > Jade Cicada > Liquid Stranger was a fantastic run that night. Wish I could’ve saw Jade but Gambino was well worth it.
We usually hang near the back right of the stage , I’m too old to go deep in these days. So probably not seeing the shit show that it probably turns into. Jade Cicada was sick. I missed speaking in tongues from leaving Courtney Barnett but his set was fire. I’m just praying we get Detox Unit and Tipper. If I get those two I’ll be okay with the rest.
Also RL was terrible, I left and went to girl talk and was mad I wasn’t there the entire time. Girltalk was ridiculously fun but that was also coming after my first Phish set ever so I was in heaven.
Has RL gotten worse live over the years? His Halloween mixes are still pretty good, but I haven't seen him since Nova came out
Omg yes. He use to be a really fun show but the past two times I’ve seen him he’s been a snooze fest. Idk if he made money and decided to not care as much, but past two times I’ve gone to see him at a fest I’ve left within the first 10 min.

well that sucks, he's been one of my favorite DJs since the very early days of r/trap lol

He’s gonna still throw some of that in. It’s not going to be as hard as the old days or like his Clockwork Project was. It’s just more polished now and less edgy. He brings in a little wuss-pop and other sounds into his sets. But it’s not the same as the early-mid 2010’s. You still get that Baauer sample he always does and made famous. Some of the shit he writes is still in that vein. I’m sure you probably know Pressure which is fairly recent (2019 I think). But I want more of that and less commercial appeal.

yeah Nova was half absolute bangers like Pressure and Reims, and the other half was boring pop tracks like UCLA and Stay For It. I know he's definitely still capable of putting out good shit (and his record label, Sable Valley, has a ton of artists with that sound), but found out that vocal tracks make him a ton of money. I still get UCLA requested at every single sorority party I play...
I left pearl jam for rl grime and I regret it every day. My timing was all out of whack after the storm and unfortunately the effects kicked in and I just couldn't sit there and listen to pearl jam anymore. But rl grime was not as enjoyable as I thought he'd be. He's not a priority for me anymore.
Trust zac. You might also want to go through YouTube live performances. He often collaborates with premier graphic artists at his shows (Android Jones, Jonathan Singer, Double You, etc.) . He never does the same show either. Being it’s at Bonnaroo it will probably be a set with some harder elements than you’d expect on a 3 day type run like he usually tries to do a few times a year with the Tipper and Friends gatherings. He’s done two Twelfth Night runs in New Orleans in the last handful of years. All the shows sold out before ever getting to retail but luckily friends got me into 4 of those 6. Also, as you’d expect, he has a large freak following. Expect some great people watching and what will probably be the #1 visual show at Bonnaroo this year. It will also be unique, so there isn’t an exact reference for what he’s going to do at Bonnaroo.

all my jokes aside i do hope i get to see Tipper at bonnaroo. i give bass music as a genre a lot of shit but i also respect artists that are really really good at what they do within their genre, even if that genre isn't my thing. so i'd love to give Tipper an honest shot.
however almost every mock i see has tipper conflicting with somebody else i want to see more. we'll see how the real schedule shakes out.

Bass music?
Sure, isn't that how you'd describe what Tipper plays? Sorry if I got it wrong.

No apologies necessary. You get automatic immunity. Like most EDM, hip hop, etc., the low frequencies will still be pulsing. But he incorporates more elements of trance, ambient, break-beat, hip/trip-hop, etc. Assuming you'd consider acts like Bassnectar or though completely different, Liquid Stranger to be pioneers of bass, it's nothing like any of that whatsoever. As per my response to Jes, the last three shows I saw him do (January 2020 @ Saenger New Orleans) were an IDM show, Downtempo show and Ambient show. It's way eclectic and like I also said in the later post, no show is ever the same. It could be argued that in the Venn Diagram world, the biggest overlap for show style, if not so much the music, is Shpongle (mid-late 40's guy from England playing since the late 90's, live artists, live graphics, live scratching and mixing, freaks on freaky things, costumed fans, etc.). Ultimately, there are plenty of bass fans, wooks and freaks who love Tipper. But it's not bass or anything remotely like Inforoo considers bass.
The only thing I’d miss Tipper for would be RTJ since I’ll see Tipper two weeks later at Resonance and we plays twice, which would help make up for it.
I’m hoping schedule permits Post seeing Tipper
Though a lot of people are good with their mocks, I haven’t looked at any of them. My assumption is Tipper is a late night 90 minute Which show. I’d split with Deftones or Foo Fighters. I’d skip for Biscuits. But since someone said they’re playing Caverns most of that weekend, they’ll likely not conflict.
Edit to say if he gets main set design could be evening Other.
Also, LP Giobbi super late night please please please
edit: for everyone who hasn't checked her out yet, she is a legit house dj. pleasantly surprised.
I can’t seem to get down with her. She’s on Twitch all the time. I think our house has managed to set a record of watching for about 15-20 seconds before we switched to something else. If it’s some house with a punch or bite or whatever, I can hang even though it’s low on the list of EDM I generally seek out. I’ve had fun at shows like Jamie XX, The Blessed/Black Madona and whatever. But I don’t see any musical depth or anything challenging to anything I’ve ever heard or watched by LP. Maybe that’s the point and I’m missing the forest? Everything I’ve heard sounds like bubble gum or Top 40 listener appeal EDM. I’m certainly open to being wrong and would be happy to admit it if there is something recommended of any musical significance.
As to your point about Deadmau5, that’s really a wild card set that could go a lot of ways from entertaining to aggravating. I’ll probably swing by that depending on conflicts.

Let's be real, deadmau5 going to play a set pretty damn similar to what he was doing in 2020. Question will be if I tough it out just to see Strobe or can time it right.
