Hoping where in the woods grabs some good house. But it sucks that it won’t be on the other at ALL. Dynohunter is basically house though I think. Maybe they throw that in a tent though due to the set up. Idk just heard them first time today so I know nothing.
Do you all think where in the woods will have mid tier artist on that lineup? Say like tchami, fisher, even just 1’would please the house community.
I doubt it, those artists would be big enough for the other for sure. But there’s def a possibility for some old timers/underground who aren’t very main stream and wouldn’t cost a lot. That being said I’m leaving little hope for names like, MK, Moon Boots, Claptone, Anna Lunoe, Lane 8, Sonny Fodera, Jacques Greene, Lastlings, Codabank, Jay Pryor, Camelphat but I seriously doubt we get anything close to those names. Maybe one! But we’ll end up with someone like Eats Everything or Love taps
Used to not like them that much but around when they did the collaborations with Boogie T, they seemed to take a turn away from being kind of popish and more toward harder styles. It’s not a draw for me, but if there isn’t something else I’d rather see at the time, I’ll go see them again.
the where in the woods stage will be DJ Funky Kind Breeze spinning remixes of all your favorite 90s hits.
It's funny because it's not like it's hard to find a cheap house DJ.
Ganja is top tier in that category of bass music. They're legit good artists, but if you don't like the dubsteps and the riddims, you'll probably hate it.

exactly, the midwest is riddled with acid DJs. i don't understand the logistics of how it would work, but let Smartbar curate the stage for a day, or labels like Interdimensional Transmissions or The Bunker.
even if people don't know who the DJs are, some random kid stumbling upon Derek Plaislako shirtless with a bottle of wine spinning high BPM techno will have his/her life changed.

Yeah agree with you here. Caught the last 20 minutes of GWN at lost lands and it was good but nothing special.
Ayy just poppin in to mention most acts that will appear on The Other are still up for grabs for band-a-day! I'll be the first to admit that I don't know the first thing about edm or electronic music in general and there are probs many others that would benefit from your wealth of knowledge! Feel free to stop by!
Oh no Posty don’t lump Tipper in with the rest of dem.
I’d love to see Kaytranda (just won a Grammy about time he’s on the farm) Jamie xx, disclosure , Claud Vonstroke , Shiba , Fisher , Walker and Royce, and Daily Bread (they would kill a Thursday night set , any pretty lights fan should check him out).
The Avalanches are on top of my must see list but no way they’d play and if they did I bet they’d end up in a tent.

Yeah I'm consciously trolling by including Tipper.
Would be happy with most of your suggestions. Maybe not Fisher? But whatever. And I haven't heard of Daily Bread but will check out.
As usual I'd be happy with anything that isn't bass music or bad EDM.

I think you’ll enjoy daily bread. Yeah fisher is a clown but he makes me lol. I’m thinking we will keep tipper and detox unit which makes me happy
I think their should be one night of bass. So do tipper and Rezz maybe have Rezz do Sunday and tipper headline Thursday? Then I would change Friday and Saturday to house/trance/techno. Above & Beyond, disclosure, Porter, Tchami, Andrew bayer, Eric Prydz, gorgon city, Zhu, Spencer Brown, duke dumont.
If we got even two of the above I’d be very happy.

I've seen Tipper a slew of times, and none was really much of a bass show. The Voodoo Sunday close a couple years back with the curated Halloween theme was the closest. But there might have been a couple minutes of "bass" in the whole show. Last 3-show run I saw him at was in New Orleans the first week of January 2020 where the run consisted of an IDM set, a Downtempo Set and an Ambient set.
I don't really listen to much electronica, house, techno or pop-EDM, though I'm okay with some Trance. And I've gotten to like Zhu a lot more than I used to. Prydz or Mau5 or even Aphex Twin or whoever could headline. I'd also like to see Derek get off his *** and do a new version of Pretty Lights. Borahm Lee was talking about new live band stuff early last year before the pandemic. But I have no idea if they got any of it recorded.
I really think it's going to be a couple of years before they wouldn't make Other Stage a bass-first stage. For better or worse, that's what people who post up at Other Stage want. Inforoo generally doesn't agree with that, but I probably spent as much if not more time there than anyone else here back in 2019. And it was fine. A lot of people thought "zomg! I thought I knew Bonnaroo and then I saw the crowd at Post Malone who must all have been at the Other Stage all weekend". That was a dead-wrong perception. It was space hippies, freaks and bassheads with some small crossover of younger attendees. Bass won't be the primary draw forever anymore than dub or trap is today. It's just going to have to morph a bit over time. You've seen some of that with Wakaan taking on some newer projects. Speaking of them (and bass), they should invite Liquid Stranger back every year just because he's so good live.

agree with this. and even if bass music isn't my thing i enjoyed some sets over at The Other and the crowd there was enthusiastic and perfectly lovely.
Being a festival connoisseur entails inventing lots of Types of Guys.
Lmao. It’s so true and as anti-judgmental as I usually try to be, I’m guilty. I guess it’s just human nature to categorize and compartmentalize in order to help one’s understanding of whatever. That was what was so cool about Day for Night and its crowds. There didn’t really seem to be a heavy concentration of thems.

It’s easy to say “everyone who was at the other when bass music was playing wants bass music” like no duh lol. That’s why their there. There is ALOT of people who would want house/trance at the other. I don’t think there’s more of one side then the other. And if you look at past years it hasn’t been completely bass at all. Usually one or two nights. But there’s also nights of house music. Last year was Saturday, year before kaskade, snakehips, virtual self and really no bass.
Bass is definitely more popular than house right now
Yeah as someone who lives in a college town, but not a big city, wook bass is essentially the only electronic music scene here. Granted we are coming out of a pandemic so we'll see what changes, but no house, techno, or trance DJs are really booked from out of town. There may be a techno tuesday or house night every once and a while, but bass is pretty much everything right now.

That first sentence is the chicken or egg side of it. I'm not a booker for Bonnaroo, but I'm assuming they realized after 2018 that bass would be the way to curate The Other for 2019 (which FWIW, wasn't all bass either - just lots of it). I guess they figured on the move to a stage that they could guarantee x number of people would buy tickets in 2019. Maybe that's also why they delved somewhat into popular headliners (Post Malone, Lizzo) too. They could sell it out or come close to it - which they did. I realize there is a shit-ton of people who like other EDM genres (me included, just not necessarily the ones you named). And they should vary it up more than just dedicating that entire area mostly to a single umbrella genre. They probably will in time. They did at that overnight stage (Kaliope I think) where we went in Saturday night overnight and it was all house. And where previously maybe only late night EDM headliners played on Which, they did have Odesza and other scattered other EDM acts in other areas. And while I hear you, having seen Kaskade a few times, Snakehips once, I don't need pop EDM in my life at all. I've seen Porter in different capacities, but the electricity was fucked up at the debut of Virtual Self at Buku that year, and I had conflicts that I decided after 10 minutes of them trying to get it to work right and bailed on it. But you also have to realize that since they booked Space Jesus, you were going to get some people who work with him. Since they brought in Liquid Stranger, you were going to get a few Wakaan artists as well. I think it was conscious in 2019 and then sort of in 2020. But I don't think that's a long term strategy like I said in original post. There will be other emerging forms of EDM that will replace Bass with its railfam and headbangers. And maybe they will react to that or possibly even incorporate more diverse acts for appropriate stages if not necessarily The Other for the next couple years. And that doesn't even mention that Gramatik headlined one night and he's not exactly bass. He plays anything from chill vibe/coffee shop shit to blues, to Deadhead-friendly, to Wook to whatever. And the ? was for Tipper. He’s not really comparable to heavy bass. There is some crossover, but there is also crossover with Shpongle. I don’t even know what to call the hardcore fans crossing between Simon and Dave. But you can bet your life the mothball people (DMT freaks) are going to be at both.
I never have had any problems at the other stage. Some chick during RL was spun AF but past two years no problems for us. My gf and her bff were at that stage a bit more than I was and they also reported no problems.

The Other Friday night 2019 was bad, I saw 5 or 6 people go down and seize up right before during and after RL Grime. But Medasin > Jade Cicada > Liquid Stranger was a fantastic run that night. Wish I could’ve saw Jade but Gambino was well worth it.
