So if United Airlines is getting access to a rapid test that can be administered at the airport and gives results in 15 mins, or an at home kit, it’s not far fetched for festivals to do the same in 6 months.
They gotta have a plan. EDC was touting that they were planning on testing everyone in order for it to happen next month. So its not too far off from whats coming.

If the situation is still bad enough in April that you need to do rapid tests on every attendee, there won't be a festival in April.
I don’t mean to be pessimistic, would just be wild for festivals to have access to that kind of shit when my school can’t even afford basic tests. It would honestly be a little irritating to me.
Guess that vaccine receipt we hand out when you get a shot is going to very valuable next year.
Speaking of, we had someone try to scam us. Said she wanted the shot, paid for it, we got it ready, then said she did not want the shot but wanted her receipt. So she could show it to work. I said no shot, no receipt, because I'm a bitch, I was told. Gave her the money back and sent her on her way.

You should find her place of work and call them to warn them they have an anti-vaxxer

So have you been screaming at the top of your lungs at MLB, NBA, NHL and NFL for doing what theyre doing? Be a multi billion dollar industry and you can do what you like, simple as that.

You think that they would not require testing even with a vaccine? What if the state ends up making it mandatory that every attendee has to be tested regardless so that they can enter the festival? Once there are updated guidelines in place, everyone will follow suit and adapt their plans to that. I thought this was about not letting your guard down at all. But apparently just the vaccine will fix everything overnight. If it came down to that then there are gonna be a lot of half full shows because there isnt enough vaccine to go around for a good year. Pick your poison.

I think the majority of people agree that sports teams getting tests over schools is stupid.
And it's laughable to think Coachella is in the same ballpark as a monopolistic sports league.

Jfc, nobody said the vaccine will fix everything overnight. Everyone here realizes it won't be rolled out immediately and there will still be a good chunk of people who will refuse it or some who aren't able to receive it. But even if there isn't 100% distribution, it will still GREATLY reduce the odds of transmission by generating herd immunity. The idea that a festival with 125,000 attendees for two weekends will be able to go on WITHOUT a vaccine and using ONLY rapid tests (that aren't even 100% accurate) is completely asinine. So if your argument is "Oh well they might require testing anyways so might as well just do it now with mandatory testing", you have a poor understanding of the situation here.
EDIT: And to go back to your question about why can't festivals do testing for everybody if airports will start testing, let me explain. Only one air carrier is offering this in Hawaii only but let's pretend it's all carriers and start with the >2000 passengers per day Hawaii is receiving right now according to dbedt.hawaii.gov. Hell, let's even rise that number to several thousand more in the event this move increases tourism and fuck it, let's say it's all within Honolulu too even though there's 3 other airports. Testing for all those few thousand passengers in Hawaii in a day PALES in comparison to testing for 125,000 at Coachella in a much shorter window of time within the day since they don't have the benefit of attendees arriving all throughout the day like an airport. It would be an impossible logistical clusterfuck and is in no way realistic at all.

Good fucking luck with that.
have to dare to dream. You dont know what theyre working on anyway and if they pull it off youll just be sitting there with your dick in your hand wondering why you had to have such a negative mindset about all this. And apprently when I mentioned that company that was able to handle at least 80,000 tests with results in 24 hours, that was not up to your apparent unrealistic standards.
But I guess if we really need a reality check, this might be what you’re looking for.

Serious response to supЯefan, which I typically try to avoid, but whatever: this isn't about positive vs negative attitudes. What's been annoying about your posts these last several months is that it never seems like you're talking about ways to safely hold a large scale festival. It comes across like you're spitballing ways that Coachella can operate in compliance with current Covid restrictions and return as soon as possible. The latter doesn't really have anything to do with safety, it's just the appearance of safety. It's checking boxes.
If we're going to put business first and not really give a shit about safety, consider the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. Possibly the single biggest super spreader event we've had in the US, and it's generated tons of awful press. Does AEG/GV want a mountain of bad press if they go through with an April festival that gets linked to thousands of new cases? Why not just push to October? Nobody wants to be Smash Mouth (TOSTIE excepted).
Had a great phone conversation with a Congressman's office today. They actually called me back after I left a message yesterday which I really appreciated. Also sent a bunch of faxes today (lol). I can send anyone templates if they want.
It really is about keeping your head up, whether you call that "positive thinking" or not. Otherwise everyone's just making each other more and more miserable and I'm not interested in that. FWIW I feel pretty good today.

Except Sturgis didn’t end up being a “super-spreader” event
The South Dakota Department of Health has reported 124 cases linked to the Sturgis rally through contact tracing. A Washington Post survey of health departments found an additional 204 rally-linked cases in 20 states.

300 isn’t a lot? And that’s just attendees, not people they gave it to. Not sure Coachella wants to be in the position of explaining “no actually, only a few hundred people got sick at the festival, and frankly we can’t reliably estimate how many people *they* gave it to.”
