I’ve camped twice, in 2005 and 2012, and they were awful experiences for me (though I’ll admit I didn’t do a great job either time on a few levels). Hate all you want, but give me a pool to recover in and a bed to sleep on all day.
Why was it bad?
I want to be prepared if I ever do camp, been trying to convince my group to do it once
For me it was waking up at 6 in the morning to overwhelming heat. Last time I camped was W2 2012, when it was 107 each day, and the heat was so brutal that I had no energy and honestly don't remember large swaths of the festival. We didn't have an EZ-UP, which was a huge mistake; I also didn't start using certain drugs until the following year. Both of those probably would've helped a lot, but I still wouldn't trade a pool and hot tub for anything, especially now that I'm in my mid-30s.

for me, camping is a big part of the experience. I've been camping at festivals for over 10 years so I've built up quite a bit of the creature comforts including a camper van (it used to be a Jucy van), solar panels/power system, cooking equipment (including a microwave!), and fans/misters. that makes it easier for me to get a good night's sleep and feel rested between days. even if I didn't have all that stuff I'd probably still camp as long as I had an air mattress.

For me, the biggest reason I don’t do hotel/Airbnb is because there are usually shitheads in my group who take forever to get ready and I end up missing a lot of early stuff I want to see. I like being able to do my own thing

I just go in early by myself each day. I have a group of 12 - 14 each year and I’m lucky if two other people start the day with me. Just communicate to your group when you plan to leave ahead of time, and tell them they’ll see you at the fest if they want to hang at the house longer. The only true advantage of camping in my opinion is being able to catch super early sets. I find it difficult to make sets before 2:00 p.m if I shuttle from Palm Springs.

I am with you on that, but its hard to get up early and feel good when you sleep at like 4/5am
I think I was waking up around noon last time. By the time we eat breakfast, chill and drink, its probably 2/3pm. Means we will be there by 3/4 (got inside at 5:30 or so sadly one day, lines got really long)

if you get up and go to the fest early without your normie friends you know who will be at the fest early to watch shows with you? all your inforoo friends.
The one year I didn’t camp, we fell asleep on the shuttle and very nearly missed our stop. It’s so much more convenient to just walk 10 minutes and be “home.”
Are there any hotels available with normal pricing? I’m looking for one with free cancellation and preferably a reserve now, pay later now.
There are still a few that have free cancel and pay later on them. Just go on hotels.com and search the dates. Only a few have jacked up their prices since the rolling stone article.
I camped for 10 years til it got to the point that I needed a hotel due to shooting the event. Had to have place for my gear and whatnot. Fortunately I do not drink so it wouldve never been an issue driving a group of people to and from everyday if others drank. The easiest thing at this point is to try and find a hotel thats a shuttle stop or close to one. And as mentioned above, prepping for camping is a whole other ordeal and you gotta be pretty hardcore about it if you want to be comfortable. Of course let us know how camping is when you get to 40 and see if your body reacts the same way of sleeping at the campgrounds and all the ambient noise youll experience vs 25. The last time I camped at a festival was Glastonbury in 2017. But it was just me and 2 other people in separate tents so I gave zero fucks about where I slept. Cant really do that at Coachella when you have a gf who has back issues.

I’m 35. Camping is fine. Honestly if camping is your typical move at festivals, you probably have most of the gear you need anyway so there isn’t much prepping involved

Only did Coachella in 17. We camped and I honestly it was great. One night we got drunk and irresponsibly went back to Palm Springs with a friend who’s living in Hawaii now. It was cool to have an after party in luxury etc. But not waking up at the fest was a bummer. Not camping at a festival doesn’t really feel like a festival to me, most of my fondest memories of that year was comradery with my neighbors who have now become good friends of mine. (Like 85% of neighbors at fests) As I get older though I think it’s RV time though

I'm 46 and I have back issues so I can definitely relate to all this but I'll continue to camp since it's a better experience for me. if I didn't have the camper van it might be a different story though.
Don’t camp or hotel it, just get a safari tent. Best camping and access available
ah, the good ole 1%er route.
Yeesh. I booked one of the Luxury Tents for Bonnaroo this year and was thinking the price was pretty steep. I had no idea how much Coachella charges for the same until I just looked it up.

It was “affordable” for about 4 years before it truly blew up. You used to be able to get it for 2 people for $2,500. Now go check the Teepee prices plus Lake El Dorado.

I think it is still really sold value. Guest passes alone run $2500/each so for a additional $4500 you get four nights lodging, breakfast, preferred camping set up, golf cart transportation back stage. I found the last few years even with the price increases that it was still high value vs staying at hotel/airbnb or doing any of the other camping options

i sure wish i could afford to drop 7 grand on a festival lmao. thats nearly the amount i spend on shows for an entire year

Yet they used to be $1000 back in the day.
I got more value out of guest passes when I won them from Carpoolchella. 😎

That’s why they call it glamping. At least nobody is bragging about dropping $50k on a Coachella Estate.

For that price, I can stay at a pretty nice Airbnb. For those looking to glamp, I get it. That looks like a fun setting.
I try to hit a few festivals a year, and I kind of like the variety I have in my accommodations.
Coachella: Rent a house I could never afford to live in, play 9 holes in the morning, go for a swim, then head to the festival.
ACL: Stay in a hotel, try not to die riding around the city on a Lime Scooter, go to the festival, then go to 9th Street bars.

Dude it was 100 degrees and humid riding through Austin on those Lime scooters last year!
We had to stop at the yeti store for AC and a beer. My girlfriends makeup was completely melted before we even got there 😭😭
Later that night after Guns N Roses we were eating at a window seat and watched some scooter guy try to Tokyo drift a corner and roll into inbound traffic.
Wonder what kind of waivers we sign to get on those things... they must have some good lawyers

Not that it does anything for anyone but it appears MGK will be there. He’s definitely second line now too which is a bummer. There’s a nu metal fest in central Florida and he was on the initial lineup and when they postponed it he was gone. Today they released the second wave and there’s one headliner blurred out still and in the comments the festival responded to someone asking about MGK and said “he will be there.” So just seems it’s a legal thing for him to be on a poster. Kinda funny how iii points “accidentally” leaked their artists and now this festival is just coming out and not even hiding it lol
I was just thinking that too. If sober/not hungover enough, I think it would be fantastic!
But Arch's daily routine for Coachella makes me want to join them. Do you rent clubs or bring them?
I've rented, but I may bring my clubs next time I go. I typically go on Friday morning; I fly out from the east coast so I'm usually still on east coast time and can get up early. I'm admittedly usually a zombie by the time the headliner comes on.
Could be fun to do an Inforoo Golf Open some year if we could get a foursome or two.

Those things are so fun yet so dangerous! I can't imagine the kind of claims their lawyers must deal with.
