H.E.R headlining? Sounds about right. Its only more interesting if she was the musical guest. Then again she might just say her new song is out at the same time the show airs.
The fact you listed Weezer here leads me to believe you have a warped view of what “butt rock” is. I’ll give you Serj Tankian but the others? No.
There’s an entire career of music post the Green album that says you are wrong.
Edit: not to mention Rivers wrote Cold’s biggest hit
As probably the only idiot on here who still pays close attention to the mostly terrible shit they churn out, that's an insane claim. You could most definitely find a few butt rockish songs, but they are still all mostly just short power pop tracks. Just because you had terrible taste in fashion, cars and audio equipment doesn't make you guardian of butt rock sir.

Shinedown is probably the purest example of butt-rock. Overly masculine vocals, shitty power chord choruses, mind-numbingly boring bass and drum parts, songs about being crazy or kicking someones ass, etc. I saw them when LiveNation was giving out free tickets and I had a great time people-watching and getting really into Second Chance.

Weezer's peak was nearly 25 years ago. You can justify the tracks below if you want. I am a fan of Weezer for the record, but they absolutely felt cringey as years passed. "A few butt rockish songs" is still butt-rock at the end of the day.
Also, I will own the hair, but I only had to deal with the other things because I was poor!

Overly masculine vocals - pass shitty power chord choruses - check mind-numbingly boring bass and drum parts - check songs about being crazy or kicking someones ass - check etc - check
Just because something is cringey doesn't mean it's butt rock. Nothing on the Black Album is remotely butt rock. It's almost entirely cringe worthy.
You even said that they have a few butt-rockish songs. I don't get why it's worth debating after that.
Because that doesn't make them a butt rock band lol. They've been around for almost thirty years and have released shit that's almost all not butt rock. White Album, ETWBAITE, Black Album, Pacific Daydream are their last 4 albums? I thinks its all pretty straightforward power pop. This is a silly argument though.

We are treading some thin lines here. I think the term (especially since it was coined online) is still broadening as new artists join the ranks. I know that there is a specific type of act that the term derived from (Five Finger Death Punch, Seether, Staind, etc), the problem is that "good" bands went on to jock the same bland sound. Power-Pop and Modern Rock were not all that different which is why they shared the same airspace anyways. I'm kidding with you all here to an extent, but I don't think it's so ridiculous to say that these acts diminished themselves when they went with a similar vibe.
edit: arguments aside, you guys should check out this playlist I made last year.

for those who don't know (i recently learned this myself) the term "butt rock" comes from radio stations that would use the tagline "Rock. Nothing but rock." which people changed to "butt rock". so you have to think of your standard playlist on your local Clear Channel rock radio station when thinking about butt rock.
butt rock is one of those things that is hard to define but "i know it when i hear it". part of my definition is it must have a very alpha masculinity to the whole sound. which IMO means weezer is definitely not butt rock, their music is generally a little too carefree and at times silly to be butt rock.
but tool, on the other hand, is full of alpha male anger and rage, even if it is interspersed with lyrics about astrology and trauma. like the "i don't mind" breakdown in "H" is about the most buttrock thing ever. that doesn't mean it's not fucking awesome, but it's definitely butt rock.
i posted this video in another thread recently but it's a pretty good apology for buttrock. just because shinedown sucks doesn't mean we have to hate the butt rock elements present in other songs we love.
EDIT: as a general rule, as music nerds i think it's important to recognize the good parts of the genres we dislike. like i've never been a fan of country pop but if you can't feel the pure pop genius of the pre-chorus and chorus of Shania Twain's "Man! I Feel Like A Woman" than i don't know what to tell you.

This! Thus enters Foo Fighters, Weezer, and Blink into this argument*
I don't necessarily like it, but there's not much of a departure from Beverly Hills to She Fucking Hates Me (which is why they were marketed on the same channels).

yeah that song sucks but not every Weezer song falls under that category, especially not what they’re known for. I always figured this song had some irony to it anyway.

Although not 100% the same thing theme park guide lines came out today for California . Don’t see how Coachella works for april 2021 if something similar is implemented
This seems more like a positive for an October festival tbh. I kinda thought we all assumed April wasn't happening.
not the way Im reading this. Seems like without the vaccine rolling out in the next 3 months, which is possible, there will be no Coachella 2021.
Yeah I'm still not expecting it to come back until '22, but if Disney opens without incident then it will at least make for an arguing point. It is obviously easier to control a theme park though.

25% capacity, and there are currently no states in the country that hit the parameters to open Disney right now.
Coachella's not going to be in April even if it does happen in 2021. It's going to be in October. I thought we put that one to bed.
Yeah I knew that logically but was holding out hope for April . If these guidelines stay I don’t see Coachella back until 2022 tbh but if the vaccine works well maybe October 2021 . I honestly don’t see the guidelines staying this stringent for long . OC/Disney will fight for better guidelines especially with the unions saying they’re ready to come back

Right. Disney World has been operating at that for months and they haven't had any outbreaks. I suspect they will increase capacity again there soon. Obviously it will take more time in California, but if things go smoothly then it could least be taken as a positive. I agree though that events like festivals should be off the books until we get a vaccine.
I also think Covid fatigue will happen. Even some of the most stringent people will ease up after over a year and a half of stalling a booming industry. Not saying it’s right but with enough pressure (money) from people, I see Q3 being a realistic timeline
