While it’s not impossible that a WS reunion is in the works, I’d guess Jack is releasing this stuff to keep his businesses afloat after a likely garbage year. I also think that Jack touring so heavily the last decade would take a lot of air out of a White Stripes reunion for the casual Coachella attendee
I mean if he's had a down year and just wants to make money...I can't think of a better way to do so than a reunion tour. That's what usually drives these things.
Part of the appeal if the feeling they're always on the edge of falling apart, but don't. That said they've been uploading a bunch of live vids recently and they don't sound like dogshit in any of them.
this is 70% of the appeal of widespread panic. right when you think they are about to fall to pieces and quit the music industry entirely they drop into "Proving Ground" and the whole arena starts vibrating.

The snl clips would beg to differ, but I know we’ll have a bunch of “no one sounds good on snl” comments. Just saying, I saw them twice as a youngster and I loved it. They didn’t sound great though.

I think saying a musician in general sucks is dumb. Like, Meg definitely lacks technical skills but it doesn’t matter because she has a catalog of songs that made a huge connection

I mean it’s not like her tapping a high hat in We’re Going to Be Friends makes much of a difference. If anything she was kind of used like a prop but that’s a whole other issue.
Meg is insignificant here. It’s all about Jack and he’s the issue.
I mean it makes sense because you don’t like the White Stripes, I’m confused that wufinancial thinks that sounds bad as a fan.
Because it’s not good. You can like it all you want. I’m not in the I hate meg camp either, their live show was just not great. If you guys didn’t get to see them or want to remember the memories, I get that. It’s why I like RATM as a headliner, I never got to see them, and what I’ve seen and heard of their lives shows they look amazing to me.

Just always seemed to me like Jack was a control freak. Couldn't imagine a woman being married to him let alone a member of HIS band. There is a reason she left the band ya know. I could be wrong but she doesn't seem the type to be told what to do. Meanwhile this is the dude who tells people to get off their phone for a show they paid for. Like dude is even trying to control his audience.

I thought Meg left the band because she had anxiety about performing. They sound good to me in the videos I've seen of them performing, but I also don't know how much I care about it sounding 'good'. They stopped performing as The White Stripes before I started going to shows, and it would be nice to check them off my list since they were one of the first bands that got me INTERESTED interested in music.

I respect this. I also get how Meg and the two piece might make it more raw. You are right re: anxiety. I was only making assumptions.

Yup. If technical prowess were so crucially important, cover bands would probably be more popular. Meg probably couldn't play drums on most Jack White solo material, but I find her drumming much more interesting and complementary than those solo songs. Simple doesn't always mean worse and virtuosity for virtuosity's sake often sucks.
And those SNL clips sound great to me, I dunno what wufinancial's hearing. Plus they have a certain chemistry and maniacal presence that just isn't there in Jack's solo stuff.
I saw the White Stripes a few times and I remember being blown away but kind of wondering how much better they'd be with an above-average drummer. Then I saw Dead Weather and Jack White solo shows and realized that a more-talented drummer didn't make up for the lost chemistry between Jack and Meg, his "little sister"/ex-wife. I'd be more than happy to see a reunion show, if Meg has overcome her anxiety.
for what it's worth, I did hear they were kicking the tires on possibilities for a Stripes reunion.
personally, I didn't really start diving into music until '07, and had tickets to the SD show, which was cancelled and ended up being their last tour. i've seen Jack White in multiple iterations since, but I can't imagine anything compares to him and Meg up there in all red, with a red stage and candy cane patterns, while he's just going apeshit on the guitar. from live videos i've seen, he is much more controlled with the band. I want the chaos.
