I think saying a musician in general sucks is dumb. Like, Meg definitely lacks technical skills but it doesn’t matter because she has a catalog of songs that made a huge connection
I think a BTS Coachella performance wouldnt be good for anyone involved to be honest, most of all BTS who would be losing 3-8M by not doing two shows at the new Rams stadium
Hard to imagine a better-case scenario for my tastes.
This would be pretty much the perfect top line to get everyone and their mother out to Coachella:
Billie: literally any younger person and plenty of older folks. Fills the pop spot with an artist who is pretty unique and very much of their time. Frank Ocean: the late teens to late 20s crowd. Travis may be a better fit here, but Frank has the rarity factor. Fills the hip-hop/R&B spot. White Stripes: the olds and the casual fans who know "Seven Nation Army." The first big reunion in a while and fills the rock spot, much to the chagrin of the armchair Coachella critics who've never been and ask, "where's the rock man?!"

They've already got three, sold-out LA area shows in Pasadena, and that was before they finally crossed over to the mainstream US charts.

Yeah, so they'd have to pass on three sold-out LA area shows at the new Rams stadium this year to do Coachella. With the new suites and other VIP type upcharges the new stadium will bring, it is not unrealistic to think they could do 10M a show there. Coachella is going to pay them 6M per weekend at the absolute max.

This is all fun, but you're kidding yourself if you think Travis Scott is dropping off. He's the only one of the announced 2020 headliners that actually tours hard, and the only one that is for sure getting back on the road once it's safe to do so. He's also at the peak of his fame, he moves tickets, and he's never headlined Coachella before. No brainer.

Sure, but playing Coachella would be more a cultural moment and a big deal for both BTS' and k-pop's continued growth in the US. I could see them taking that spot happily if they were offered.

hes also probably made the most money of any non Kanye musician during the pandemic, so who knows maybe not

Agreed. Aside from the Super Bowl, headlining Coachella is one of the highest profile US gigs out there. And I hate the whole “they’d make more money doing they’re own show” argument. It’s not like they’re barred from playing LA for a year. Headliners can still do they’re own solo shows before or after Coachella like AC/DC, Ariana Grande and Childish Gambino did. Waiting a few more months wouldn’t kill them.

true, but i'd also add that Travis Scott seems to genuinely love performing live. this is based purely on seeing him live and watching live performances on youtube. he goes 100 and exercises crazy control over the crowd. i'd bet he is itching to be back on stage.

The original shows were the Rose Bowl and they wont fuck everyone over with a change of venue cause those seats wont translate over. You also dont know what production was being created which would require an open air stadium and not a closed roof. BTS isn’t a vip suite kind of act either. The only vip thing they offer for their shows is a soundcheck ticket and thats it, no tickets are even effected by dynamic pricing because Bighit isn’t allowing Ticketmaster to do it. They make their money off merch sales. Every single one of those kids that go is good for an average of $100 - $200 in purchases, do the math. Plus at this rate theyll do their make up u.s dates in 2022 which would be far removed from a Octoberchella unless they plan around it. And i doubt the fanbase will care if they add 2 festival dates nor will GV be pissed at LN. they had to fork over a ton when they got Ariana last year, it wouldnt be any different with BTS cause everyone makes money and they need it. Finally, they have a small window to do this anyway because the oldest members turn 30 real soon and must enlist in the korean military, so its almost a now or never situation.

If BTS is headlining, the latest they can do it is 2022 before enlistment. As I said before, 2022 is probably the safer bet since if BIGBANG is still in, it’s highly unlikely both perform in the same year.
