If Coachella does two fests in in 7 months (Oct/Apr), is there any chance of MCR playing one of them? SEEMS like a no-brainer to me given they paid the band either way and now need 6 headliners in a short time, but I'm guessing not.
They have a huge backlog of possible headline acts now so I dont think they wanna revisit them after their drama. Unless MCR is desperate and their tour gets pushed yet again. Those dudes know how to hold a grudge on top of that.

Who is the huge backlog?
Feel like we are running low on new headliners who are ready
No way, it would be a mess in there now. Last time in the gobi is was slammed. Like above, Outdoor most likely.

Just those as new ones are kinda obvious and not counting acts who Coachella likes to elevate themselves. We didnt even get to see if they had a left field choice for 2021 either. Unless youre thinking more about bands thats a whole other thing.
Adele Rihanna Billie Bad Bunny Taylor BTS Bruno Mars

Just counting new headliner candidates, you've got Billie Eilish, Bad Bunny, possibly Dua Lipa, etc.

I'd say both parties have too much pride to compromise on this, though I think this would make alotta sense for both of them too.

Well are Adele and Rihanna even ready?
Is Bad Bunny really a headliner?
Assuming Rage is done this year and we still have Frank and Travis, we may need to use one of those names or a band like MCR (maybe they co headline or have a very big person against them)
We went from no festivals in 2021 to 2 in the span of 7 months.
I would not bet on this today.
So are you suggesting the 4/12 deadline is nothing more than a contractual deadline which Goldenvoice has stipulated that other festivals/artists follow regardless of them actually planning to move forward with a lineup for October?

I think Rage and Travis will still be in. Commerford said that "we'll never be one of these sellouts that's gonna go play a drive-in show or play a venue that holds 100,000 people and there's only 10,000 there." If Coachella is pretty close or at full capacity, then I don’t see why they won’t play. I think Frank is the question mark, in my opinion. We just don’t know if he’s up for it now with the passing of his brother, but I guess we’ll find out shortly.

Adele is ready, Rihanna is just gonna do it when she finally feels like it. Bad Bunny would be one of those Coachella bumps and you book along 2 other strong names. Theyve been going more global and there hasnt been a latin music headliner at the fest ever. I dont think Frank is gonna come back so Bad Bunny wouldnt be a terrible back up cause youre going to be guaranteed a sell out even if its altered capacity. Unless GV just gives it to Lana and then they finally put to rest the whole thing of her being able to or not.
Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but rumor is that OSL is moving to October. I can’t possibly see this being the same weekend as Coachella.
We have to look at the crossover of both posters. I dont think its too significant but if push came to shove theres some shuffling that can be done if they both had to overlap on weekend 2. No way its weekend 1 cause of ACL. But OSL is in the clear Oct 15-17 though. ( if coachella is first 2 weekends of october )
edit: looked at both posters and unless I missed a random act there is no crossover which is pretty miraculous.
I would assume Lorde would grab a headlining spot before Lana. She supposedly has a new album coming out later this year.
Yeah, but you have to pay Lorde and not so much Lana if she is still signed on. Prob give Lana a bigger production budget but not a fresh headlining fee. I think in the end if there is a spot open for October, they can sneak in somebody that would spur arguments over if they cant or cant, but it wont matter since this is a weird year and shits gonna sell out.

Lorde's gotta be in contention for headlining in either 2022-2023 right? Assuming her next album is as well received as her first two, She seems like a no brainer.

Secret Project Festival in LA making an announcement tomorrow.
Edit: III Points social media posting the same message. I know it was mentioned that III Points LA was suppose to happen last year. I wonder if Secret Project is combining with III Points in some form now.
Probably asked and answered at some point, but is there any reason for fall festivals to be redacting out multiple names from their posters unless Coachella is likely happening in the Fall?
First announcements rights for a Spring 2022 festival don't seem worth enforcing, and historically other big fests like ACL and Lolla haven't seemed concerned about that.

That’s what I was trying to get at. The only thought I have is Goldenvoice added clauses around first announcement, but provided a drop dead date where other festivals could announce said acts if they themself weren’t in a place to announce.
Bad Bunny is def headline caliber but I feel like Coachella would want to wait. Since he was just at last Coachella. Obviously 2020 and 2021 line ups would have been done already and he would have been perfect for 2022 had covid not existed. Maybe if they do Bunny x Balvin together.
Mt. Rushmore doesn't seem like a Coachella thing if they're not doing a greatest hits for each artist. That's something that'll end up headlining the next Long Beach Summer rap festival.
I don't see why Frank wouldn't be down. I feel like he hasn't released his album yet for a reason, and that reason being the Coachella rollout. I think Coachella keeps the headliners and subs outside of Calvin Harris maybe. But I feel like there will be drastic changes to that second line. I can see Daniel, Ari Lennox, Marina, etc. Either not being there at all or dropping. Of course the Doja Cats of the world are probably demanding second line placement now or else they'll drop out.

Not saying you’re wrong but no major artists are releasing albums. For festival rollout, tour rollout or just because it’s not a good time. If you don’t drop a classic it’s forgettable until outside is open.

This year is different though with all these majors being so close to each other. Those other fests have radius clauses too, Coachella is just more noticeable since they’re usually the first to drop.
Yeah this makes the blurred out acts all the more bizarre. Unless Coachella was still in the process of planning for a fall festival before deciding against it
