At MOST we may get one co-headliner for Friday. I fully expect Frank, Travis, RATM to still be on plan to keep on the line up. If one is missing, it was probably the artist's decision to drop out. The 2nd line is what I expect to be 80% different. The only 2nd liners that I think are must keeps are Lana Del Rey and RTJ. I think they'll keep a couple more, but there should be a decent overhaul. Although a part of me feels like they would want to add one huge name to the poster to make it "special".. If Travis or Frank was ok with Co-headlining Friday with Rage, and put someone of the caliber of Rihanna on Saturday or Sunday.
That's why I could see Frank wanting to drop out and prefer something like 2022 instead when things should absolutely be more concrete then, as ironic as that is about him.
For the 2nd liners I'd guess...
Likely in: Run the Jewels, Megan Thee Stallion, Flume, Disclosure, Lana Del Rey Maybe: BIGBANG, Thom Yorke, 21 Savage, Danny Elfman, DaBaby Probably out: Calvin Harris, Rex Orange County, Summer Walker, Lil Uzi Vert, Daniel Caesar, FKA twigs, Marina, Louis the Child, Ari Lennox
I think Doja Cat gets bumped up to the 2nd line too.
Wanting to make it special, they feel like they owe it to the customer, wanting to differentiate from the crowd, etc. all aren't valid arguments if the poster is really solid for next April.
The one argument that might work is given that all artists are essentially not making concert money for a solid year, there may be a decent amount of artists willing to take offers they previously would have scoffed at to start earning again and/or getting good with AEG/GV in order to present future years. Maybe somebody like Lizzo that didn't get her arena/festival headlining money this year and still hasn't made THAT much money takes an offer she wouldn't have otherwise accepted to be on the second line next year. Look at the PGA Tour this week with 17 of the top 20 golfers in the world playing a mediocre tournament in the scorching Texas heat this weekend because nobody wanted to miss on the first chance to make money in 3+ months. Still a stretch, but if you want to dream about a big poster next year, that's how.
Who are we feeling for this? Is a Kendrick return possible? Will the world still exist? So many questions.
The world will be engulfed in a fiery hellstorm and all of our bodies will be contained in one giant bucket of atomic goo but that will be no excuse for them not booking Rihanna

So how much are we thinking crosses over from 2020? I did a quick rough count name by name and came up with around 40%. I'm guessing they'll be more I didn't include so I'm predicting a little over 50%.

Ari Lennox, Daniel Caesar, and Summer Walker were already big over bookings in foresight, but now it's even worse lol. Could still see Uzi, FKA staying.. the others would need to be bumped down a bit for it to "feel like correct poster placement". Could bump up BROCKHAMPTON and Big Sean also
So if April actually happens, are we thinking October will happen as well or just happen in April 2022 like usual
I think it's either/or, and I also don't think April 2021 will happen, but we'll see. I may have missed this in earlier convo, but it seems like it'd be pretty tough to do two fests in one year (three in 18 months) with a limited staff. Meanwhile CA had one of its highest death toll days today, and cases continue to rise (though hospitalizations have been ok so far). Just seems like a large scale fest will be low on the totem pole of priorities for a re-opening that strikes me as driven by economic considerations.
This new Chloe x Halle album <33 please bring them back. For a year with no shows, there has been A LOT of amazing albums to drop this year for me personally.

Just realized how hard it would be to do 3 fests in such a short time with less staff (can even count it as 3 in 12 month if you start counting on April 2021)
I think they will just skip this year and be back on schedule next. No reason to try to force multiple festivals in a year or make it up to people. Everyone else skipped ‘20 anyways.
Love it, hotel I had booked for October w2 was 500 all in and now that same room is 2100 for April.
any hotel recs for w2 in April? specifically trying to avoid airbnb because of how often they cancel.
Also, I have a shuttle pass with my ticket so preferably on the route lol
Just wait it out, rooms will pop up. With a lower attendance the demand wont be there and rates will go down eventually. And the rates are high because everyone booked a room for next year back in April, as if nothing was going ti change. There was a motel 6 for $80 a night if you went directly to their website, not by a shuttle line but its at least cheap. If you want to keep an eye out on a hotel thats a shuttle stop, Keep checking Homewood Suites in Palm desert Because hasnt made itself available yet to book. I had a room there for this past April and October and the price was fair.

I've been checking many of the hotels from last April to now, and most haven't even opened up bookings yet. This would normally be the time of year presale starts, and that's also usually when bookings open up.
If you book an AirBnB with a Superhost, there's less chance of them cancelling on you because they can lose their Superhost status. Also, be sure you tell the host you're coming for Coachella when you book so they know upfront and don't realize it later and maybe cancel on you to get a higher fee. I found a nicely priced AirBnB near a shuttle stop this morning and initially the host, a Superhost, said she doesn't book the festival weekends anymore but I told her my wife and I are old and won't trash the place and she accepted the booking.

m.facebook.com/muddyrootsmusicfest/. The only independent music festival that is happening in the USA this year is still on! It’s happening in September. Tell all of your friends! We’re refusing to cancel and only 8 bands have pulled out and will be replaced soon.

Trust me, the Coachella crowd is not the audience for this festival in Cookeville TN

Are you forcing masks? I don’t want to go if you’re going to force me to wear a mask.

Deadmau5 was going to debut his new album this year. That's two pretty high profile surprise shows, even though he was already going to be there for Testpilot

I've always loved these lineups and have considered combining a trip back home to Nashville with Muddy Roots one year. But then you rolled in here with this bullshit and called someone a commie in another thread and now you'll never get a dime out of me.

Isn't Bristol Rhythm + Roots that weekend, too? I don't think they canceled either. So that's 2 DIY fests that can say we care more about money than people's safety.
Punk as fuck, actually. Joe Strummer would be proud.
Hotels are so expensive in the States. Everywhere I've been to, so far, overseas has crazy cheap pricing. Motel 6's out here being $80+ is ridiculous.
When an algorithm is working on things it gets really unfair. Said it plenty of times that if hotels were regulated more and pricing wasnt through the roof that there easily ends up being a bigger FOMO contingent and they wouldnt have lower attendance numbers. There realy should be some rethinking about all that now since everyone is going to be hurting financially.

There are hotels that arent even sure theyll get to turn the lights back on, so why promise bookings you cant deliver ya know. Some of that also has to do with Coachella having some deals with them and holding off so they can use Valley Music Travel to push room bookings. And they have some hotels blocked out for their staff and such. A few years ago I stayed at the Vagabond on Palm Springs and the hotel was 90% booked out to the shuttle drivers. But yeah, a bunch held off on even opening up their bookings, just gotta watch it all like a hawk. What stinks is if they start with higher rates because they know the festival is happening at that date now. It was the nice thing about Oct this year coming out of nowhere and you could get some deals.
So this link is mostly about a doctor expressing his doubts on April going through but I thought the results of the poll at the end were interesting.
I’m sure there are some that weren’t considering going back regardless but this was something I thought about concerning this pandemic. I think this whole pandemic has scared some people so bad, a good chunk of them still won’t go back into the world as normal even after a vaccine is widely available. The lasting mental affects this has had on some people might make them permanently uncomfortable to venture out into huge crowds like this again or at least for a long time.
