Put in my time-off request for this today! Assuming that goes through I'll be purchasing my ticket shortly after and scoping out hotels after that
Was already getting pretty hyped for my first Big Ears and seeing Circuit des Yeux got added helps with that for sure! Gonna go listen to her latest record now; somehow missed it when it came out last year

You’ll love this venue, too. It’s really small and very intimate. That said: Get there early. I think capacity is < 100.
This is what it looks like on the inside (stolen from a wonderful write up from the pages of Radius Claus )
Tift is an interesting booking. Absolute gem of a singer/songwriter but curious to see what is brought to the table here.
Stoked on Psalms though. Salsburg is a monster picker.
I double checked their website, and the effective capacity for it is actually smaller than the Pilot Light because it's split between three different rooms. I caught Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn there for a secret set. It was so great.

That PHBB will pack out but as far as announced performances go, I don’t see too much that will be hard to get into.
This apparently what Tift is doing (per the website):
Singer-songwriter Tift Merritt is in residence: she talks with festival artists for her interview podcast, The Spark, and makes a set of musical performances with special guests.
If you don’t know her, you should. Out of everyone I know, I think you’d be a fan. Maybe sang_xcx but I won’t insult you like that.

We saw her a couple times around like 09 I guess. Once at Bonnaroo and once opening for Nickel Creek.

Tickets officially purchased! Nice reward for myself after a long week at work. Been using the artist pages on their website to dig into live performances and read the bios and already wincing at potential conflicts (good problem to have though!)
Any recommendations for good hotels to stay at outside the city? Looking for something under $100 a night that isn't too seedy and we don't mind driving in each day. Has anyone stayed at the Country Inn and Suites along I-40 to the west of town? May pull the trigger on that one, photos look decent

Are you talking about the one on Cross Park Drive? That should be a decent spot of town. It's a busy exit but it's easy access to 40 to get downtown.

Yep, that's the one! Made the reservation for now and will probably check in every week or two to see if it's worth rebooking a closer or cheaper option. Doesn't look like it should be too long of a drive though

I booked a Best Western off Pratt in North Knox. I forget the exact price but it was like $350 for 4 nights. It’s a 10 minute drive/ $6 Uber to the garages downtown. While not skeezy, it had its moments like where the fire alarm went off in the middle of the night and thepeppers saw me rip it out of the wall and go back to sleep.
Stoked I get to see more faces that weekend. Make plans to go to a bunch sort of thing Saturday or Sunday morning.

Will definitely look forward to meeting up with some Inforoo folks for a brunch at some point and also definitely want to get outside the city to see some nature while we're down there at some point... probably check out that soundwalk thing
Also, not sure if this was already common knowledge, but it looks like the venues for each show is listed on their website. Not a full schedule, but still interesting to get a sense of who will be where each day

They’ve been teasing venues but this puts a definite stamp on things. I’m stoked they’re opening up the Amphitheater on Thursday but I’ll start dreading that Kim Gordon vs. Sons of Kemet conflict now.

Thankfully caught Kim, AnCo and Yves at Pitchfork last year which should help with conflicts. Sons of Kemet is among my most anticipated acts so I imagine we'll do that over Kim if it comes to it

In case you didn't know, Yves is actually from Knoxville, but they left as soon as they could in adulthood. Keep telling myself that bc i wanna talk myself into a special hometown show. 😄

Modu is closing down the M+M so there’s a good chance SoK is earlier than Kim. There’s also a good chance Lido is sandwiched somewhere in there at the Standard.
I’m seeing Body/Head + Aaron Dilloway a few weeks later but really hoping to catch Gordon on her album tour. Sadly, I won’t get another chance with SoK so I’ll be there if that we’re to happen.

Damon Locks + Black Monument Ensemble is the Amphitheater on Thursday and Mill and Mine on Friday.
I only bring this up because having my two favorite jazz albums of 2021 in one venue is blowing my mind.
Thanks for putting this together.
Good eye. I'll keep updating as the website does, at least until we get the schedule. Only artist without a venue from the top lines is Ron Miles Quintet, which is one of my top acts of the weekend...nervous to see how he slots in. Honestly, even though it means I'll probably miss Sparks, Callahan > Patti > Low at Mill & Mine is a pretty ideal scenario for my Thursday night.

I don't know a whole lot about poetry but both Hanif and Nikki Giovanni are names that I recognize and like, so good for them for adding yet another potential conflict into the mix
