if any one character story is maybe looking a bit predictable it's Nate's, he's going to have some sort of redemption arc where he manages to marry his drive and talent with some Ted Lasso compassion and warmth (and that could make him like the greatest coach ever) but that foreshadowing didn't stop me from getting a bit emotional when Ted was "winning" against Nate in the court of opinion just by being fun and self deprecating instead of being a dick.
man i love this show.
Interesting - I don't see Nate getting redemption at all. Maybe this is due to comments from (I think) Brendan Hunt before season 2 about Nate turning into a villain (and maybe my thinking is wrong and the comments don't apply to Season 3). What would happen to Nate for him to get the redemption, as an example? I guess maybe he could get fired at West Ham and return to Richmond, asking for his job as the kit manager but Ted extends the grace to give him an assistant job?
good question. i think it could end in a situation where Nate gets fed up with Rupert and tells him off (or alternatively, has some sort of meltdown and gets fired), goes back to Richmond like you said, asks Ted for forgiveness, and Ted puts him up as the new head coach since he is heading back to the states to be with his son.
or it might could even happen during the season, Nate quitting/getting fired and returning and getting an asst. coaching gig like you said, but no matter what path it takes i think where this ends is Ted quitting and Nate being the head coach of Richmond.
also since Jamie is working on not being an asshole, it would be cool if at some point Nate has some sort of run-in with his old locker room nemesis, and some sort of lesson is imparted about how to be a killer in the game but a decent person off the field.
one thing i didn't mention is the Keeley/Roy story. i'm curious if they'll be able to pull off an interesting twist on this, right now it's will they/won't they again, and it feels like it has to end up with "they will", but how do they make that an interesting story line?

I have a feeling Keeley is going to get back with Jamie somehow and Roy will struggle with it at first but come to accept it.
My prediction for how this will all end is Richmond will still be at the bottom of the table by the last game of the season and the final game will be against Nate and West Ham United. Richmond will lose to West Ham United, knocking them back into relegation. Nate will come to Ted to gloat, claiming he's the one to finally get Ted fired but all Ted will do is forgive him for everything Nate did and tell him he's proud of what Nate has accomplished. Ted and Richmond will mutually part ways then as a fuck you to Rupert (and in a way his dad too), Nate quits West Ham United and Rebecca hires him as new the HC per Ted's recommendation. Nate will come to the HC desk where Ted sat and he'll find a toy soldier sitting on the desk. Ted goes back to the US, Roy and Coach Beard stay with Richmond and Nate makes amends with Will Kitman.

It hit me during this episode when Rebecca was describing Rupert's courtship of her - I love Rupert. For the exact reasons Rebecca said, and I didn't even know it. He's had like, what, 10 scenes in the entire show? Probably a few more but not many. And he steals every scene and he is a great villain for this show.

It just dawned on me that he was also a Rupert in Buffy.
I really enjoyed that they brought some humanity back to Nate - I was to a point where I hated him and now I feel nothing but cringe. The scene with the waitress and him hiding in the elevator show me that he's still just that scared person shoved into a position of leadership.

I really, really, really hope we're not going to see a rekindling of the Keeley/Jamie romance. Just....no. If I'm robbed of a big, emotional Keeley/Roy reunion, I will riot.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?

Unpopular opinion, but I don’t care if Keely and Roy get together. I get it why they were together, but I also think they’ve grown past where they were when they started dating.
The show is all about growth, so if it needs to happen, there needs to be a big reason. Roy mentioned this season “quitting before being fired” which obviously applies to Keely as much as it does his athletic career, so I wonder what Roy needs to do to be ready again.
Maybe Roy’s endgame is being more of a Football Dad to the team (being the new Ted when Ted inevitably leaves to be with his son) and Keely knowing how to have a full identity outside of being a footballer girlfriend. Business owner & dating Jack, while still being besties with Rebecca and working for the club and loving friendship with Roy, would be a beautiful arc.

I'm with you, don't need to see Roy and Keely back together.

Feel like things are going to come to blows with Keeley and Shandy. I think Rebecca could be involved with that too, considering her one piece of advice she gave to Keeley about being a boss was “hire your best friend” which obviously isn’t working for Keeley.
