Whoa, some big changes to the lineup last minute here. Husbands replaced Michigander, Sheer Mag replaced Ezra Furman (which sucks cause I really want to see Sheer Mag but that set is smack dab in the middle of Jungle's set) and Tauk was added in the Treehouse slot opposing Green Day, for some reason. Pretty happy with the changes tbh, but I might only catch the beginning and end of Jungle's set now.
Also Pale Waves was replaced with a Stevie Wonder vs. Jimi Hendrix Tauk set on Saturday afternoon now. Sounds pretty cool

Morning Ramblings from Day 1
I’m seeing lots of complaining, but I had one of the better Firefly days I’ve had. Getting into camp couldn’t have been easier, no search. Getting into the fest was also pretty painless, some of the security is a little over zealous but after the year where they made me empty my wallets contents nothing ever seems as bad.
Music
Husbands and Mannequin Pussy both had sound issues but once they figured it out were great. A friend is Mannequin’s tour manager so we were trouble shooting sound. They still have a great performance as always.
Unlikely Candidates - front dude’s voice is incredible but he should lay off the crazy eyes. Really really good cover of Blinding Lights.
502s - My surprise act of the day. I really liked them. In the same vein as Nate Rateliff, Mumford etc but really really talented musicians. Saxophonist especially is dope.
Willow- only filled about half of her time but what she played was great. Almost skipped her happy I didn’t.
Jungle - My Number 1 for the day, absolutely killed it as always. Crowd around me sucked, but by then Halsey teeny boppers had taken over.
100 Gecs - I was too sober but very fun. Grade A banter.
Jamie XX - crowd grew as the set went on. Very low attendance at the start. I will say not his best imo. His transitions were kind of sloppy and the first 30 minutes were mid tempo which is not what I personally want that late in the evening.
Logistically I have yet to Encounter the water and Porto potty issues everyone is talking about, but feel bad for those dealing with brown water and browner toilets. Here’s hoping tonight’s weather doesn’t kill the vibe for MCR.
My biggest knock I know inflation costs of food blah blah, food prices are CRAZY, and for tiny portions. Gonna try and scope out a place where you get bang for your Buck.

Husbands was excellent, as was Mannequin Pussy (highlight of the day), Briston Maroney and Sheer Mag. I saw 10 bands yesterday, but I didn't catch more than 35 minutes of any one band or artist's set. Not sure why they went with flushable toilets this year, that obviously backfired. Also yesterday was not well attended, however I have a feeling Saturday and Sunday are gonna be the typical Firefly attendance since I'm sure a lot of day passes were sold for Green Day and Dua.
Also, I had no idea this festival was going to be so LGBT-oriented this year. Not complaining, just surprised.
AND NO DOGFISH HEAD TENT. I was a little upset when I found that out.

The vendor prices are shameful
So apparently the reason for this is Firefly is taking a 40% cut from vendors.

Day 2 ramblings
All music festivals should happen in cold weather. It’s soooo much better. You’re not dead from heat before the headliner. Water got fixed, Porto’s I have yet to see any issues. Food prices still suck though Ramen Mac n Cheese is a revelation. Way better attended last night Avril and MCR both had huge crowds. This feels like Firefly years 1-3 which is so welcome.
Anna of the North - started off kind of weak but got there songs are undeniably catchy, strong Maggie Rogers vibes. Wouldn’t be surprised if she blows up.
Mod Sun - A literal muppet.
Gus Dapperton - Rough stuff kids. I think he was really inebriated. Combine that with a bad mix and mic issues and it wasn’t cute.
DayGlow - Honestly didn’t think I’d like it because on record it’s really overproduced, but I really enjoyed their set. All of the schtick is very calculated. Reminds me a lot of early Two Door Cinema Club.
Cold War Kids- Thought they’d be washed up but they are not. Miracle Mile is a bop.
Ashnikko - she was so sick, but absolutely slayed. Grimes esque but I don’t want to punch her in the face over and over.
Avril - I love Avril. she killed it. Crowd was awesome.
Indigo De Souza - I want her to be huge. She’s consistently excellent. Reminds me of Big Thief for some reason. Treehouse at night is dope.
MCR - I have watched both of their Reading sets a million times. To finally get that MCR Fest experience was epic. Famous Last Words and I’m Not Okay were especially epic. Gerard Way is the best front person in music.
Zedd - I stayed at this set wayyyyy longer than I usually stay at the late night EDM sets the mix and visuals were camp as hell and I loved it.

my friend who is there was planning to do Halsey w the rest of his camp crew but I successfully convinced him kinda last minute to go to Jamie instead (and he loved it). The first clip he sent me, crowd looked small but by later on it seemed well-attended!
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
Did anyone else think it was super messed up how Porter Robinson kept getting pelted with glow sticks toward the end of his set? It seemed like he was trying to be a good sport about it, but it looked to me that that he was getting more and more irritated as it went on. I mean obviously he's not gonna get hurt by a glow stick, but he kinda needs to focus on performing, and he was getting hit in the face repeatedly. Bad form from the crowd last night, imo.
His set was one of the highlights of the weekend, regardless.

Day 2 diary that no one asked for
Electric Candlelight- What Greta Van Fleet wants to be. Great big classic rock sound
Jordana - Instantly obsessed love her. Like somewhere between Hop Along and Alvvays
Benny the Butcher - Love him on record. the live show needs work. Award for largest posse.
Princess Nokia - Killed it. Weird, talented, crowd was into it. Saw her in 2017 thought she was fun has really come into her own as the queer auntie we don’t deserve.
Head and the Heart - Kind if a revelation to me this year. They are such a good live band, it’s shame their records are over produced.
Lo Moon - Had like 20 people at start of set, probably 200-300 by the end huge big sound. Seen them many times but that treehouse stage really suits them.
Haim- Ended early but they were on last night imo. Can’t wait for them to have one more album of material. Live them but the second album is so weak the sets get repetitive.
Green Day - Mad props for the showmanship and musicianship extremely solid greatest hits set. Points deducted for playing Shout which is the worst song ever written. And Good Riddance needs to be retired.
Might be leaving early today it’s kind of a weak day. Was all about Dua and Charli and they might get rained out. Would rather go nap all afternoon than fuck with a potential weather mishap.

Baby edm kids dont know the art of a glowsplosion being a mostly vartical throw and not even at the stage. That sucks.

I’m not defending the crowd of Porter super stans bc they can be intense haha but I know for a fact he specifically asked people near the front to throw them at him like that. There’s a clip of him asking for it

I was on the barricade, and he did ask for everyone to throw all their glow sticks on stage at once.. and I'm pretty sure he did that to try to make it stop. You just don't throw something at a performer unless they're being offensive or botching the performance.. Just imagine if all those glow sticks were tomatoes, that's the same idea.

Charli XCX was AMAZING. Did not think I cared for her music based on her radio hits but will definitely be vibing to her at the gym tomorrow. I loved her set/performance.

Glad to hear the set was a banger! My wife and I had packed up camp and were planning to leave after her set, but decided to cut our losses 45 minutes into the evac since the original plan would have had us getting home in DC at 1 and the rescheduling would have pushed it back to at least 2 (we ended up home at 8:30, and I’m so glad we made that call).

Even with that, Sunday was a solid day, and I got to spend some time away from the main stage, which was nice. We hauled ass at noon to get inside in time for the flash tattoo pop-up (clean, professional and way less sketchy than it sounds - we’ve done flash events at the tattoo shops in DC, and this one was super quick and efficient, which was great given the high demand. We both got the firefly in the festival logo, which is maybe 25% bigger than a quarter. Great space filler for an empty spot on my sleeve).
We then made it over early into Oh He Dead’s set. They were great up until the Pavilion tent cranked the audio WAY up on the football game (and the only areas with shade at 1pm had massive sound bleed) and we bailed. We decamped to the Nest and vibed in the shade through Speaker Honey’s excellent house set, then made it over to the Treehouse for about half of Snacktime’s set (solid funk band outta Hollywood FL, which tickled me since I grew up 30 minutes north of there), before bouncing over to catch all of Magic City Hippies.
The clouds were starting to roll in so we waited out the next hour back at the Nest during another solid house DJ, Casmalia, and got to catch the entirety of the Pride parade as it departed from the Treehouse stage. We followed it to the main stage and managed to catch two of SAINT JHN’s songs before the evac got called. Slightly bummed we missed T-Pain and Charli, but Friday and Saturday were fantastic, and I’m thrilled I got to see both MCR (third time - one-day alt radio fests in 2006 and 2007) and Green Day (who were my first concert, ever, in 2005).
