Due to changes at the city, no vaccine check or negative test is required for entry anymore. Gates open at 1:00pm both days.
This pisses me off.
If it was any time between March 2020 and about a month ago, I'd agree with you 100%. It's a city issue though, and most festivals are following local guidance. They announced today relaxing the rules for restaurants, bars and other public spaces. This is from today:
Mayor LaToya Cantrell called the end of the vaccine mandate a “critical and welcome milestone,” as key metrics related to viral transmission and hospitalization are at historically low levels across in the New Orleans region and across Louisiana. As of Sunday, hospitals in both the metropolitan area and across the state recorded the fewest COVID-19 inpatients since the start of the pandemic.
I just think dropping the vax mandate is dumb personally and it does piss me off. There is only one way to make sure the next variant isn't going to make a wave, if you know what I mean. I think we need to keep those in place.
I get it. Everyone is over it. The numbers are low. Last variant wasn't as bad (even though thejeremy was at the ER twice and had to have surgery from it) in comparison. It is what it is at this point.

Yeah word. I never caught it and would wear a mask if some shit was yet creeping around. I feel like we have a window - if not permanent (?). Mardi Gras not leading to mass infections circa 2020 keeps me hopeful. Can’t wait to run into you. Shit I can’t even remember the last time I saw you - when Druid’s posse was in town? I know I saw Jeremy a couple times leading up to the pandemic, but that’s the last time I can remember crossing paths. I’m probably wrong.
So they made a lot of progress out on the river today. It looks like one of the stages or at least an installation is in the front corner if you were heading uptown on Tchoupitoulas. So the NE corner? Maybe would be the Skyline stage all the way in the front? Could be the Bridge too because it faces westbamk-bound side as well. Put out the map dicks.

Yeah it's been awhile. thejeremy is back at Gasa Gasa doing security.
I hope we get that window. I am excited to go to a festival. My festie bestie was telling me about the new layout also last night. A map would be perfect. LOL
It's a perfect day here in the Crescent City. It's sunny and like 72. Got that warmup show in last night, so I should be ready for two 2pm-5am days. I'll be suffering a little on Sunday, but the rust needs to be shaken off. I'll be in jeans today and a dark grey Thievery Corporation Temple of the I & I Tour tshirt with some black Converse Hightops with the only shoestrings I could find yesterday - black and white checkered Vans. Haha. I'll be at the Wharf most of the early part of the day which does not have a VIP area. But otherwise, I'll be up in those areas and easy to find. Today's plan which is sure to go out the window, is:
A Hundred Drums @ 2:15 Kumarion b2b Reaper for some drum & bass at 2:50 Chee b2b Tsuruda @ 3:45 Wreckno @ 4:45 Troyboi @ 5:15 Lab Group @ 5:50 New Thousand @ 6:30 Bas @ 7:30 504IcyGirl @ 8:15 CloZee @ 8:25 Liquid Stranger @ 9:30 Tame Impala @ 9:45
Overnight - Wakaan Takeover @ The Orpheum featuring Liquid Stranger. Hopefully he plays around 2ish so I can find my way home by 4. But I'm not super optimistic about that and could easily be out until 6am. Haha. I'll be missing the majority of the big shit today due to conflicts or lack of interest - Porter Robinson, Rezz, $uicide Boy$, Dom Dolla, Trippie Redd, etc. Gonna need lots of caffeine today.

I am really hoping to be released before 4 pm. I am trying to do timecards but they are really hard especially since we don't know what time we are getting out of here. Luckily, one of the stars got covid so filming is on hold for a couple days which means I am off tomorrow and will be out early. I am super happy about that.
Ugh. Friday was a fucking party, and I kicked my own ass. First set was chick wook bass with A Hundred Drums. She was pretty good but fucked up a couple times and lost a few seconds of sound.
Next I went to Kumarion b2b Reaper. It started off a little slow, so I walked over to Foushee. She was pretty good, and she played some guitar along the way with her band. I walked back to catch the last 20 minutes of the b2b, and it was better than when I left. Next set was Chee b2b Tsruda. Both went hard. My daughter kept swearing that would be the best EDM show of the weekend. It wasn’t, but it pretty much ruled. That was my first time seeing both of them, and I would see either of them again any day. Chee came out in the crowd for Wreckno and hung out and said hey to everyone.
Wreckno - man I don’t know where to start with him. This set was so fucking hard for what I expected. It was 100% LGBTQ+, full of rainbow visuals and him with his long hair, mustache and beard and a dress. This moves up to must see again at Bonnaroo. I met Wreckno later at Liquid Stranger. He was in line behind me and I had to compliment him on the festival set. I told him I knew it would be good, but I wasn’t expecting that. He thanked me and others that mobbed him as we moved along in line. He was super humble. Fuck yeah, this was fun.
Next was Troyboi. I’ve seen Troy a bunch of times over the years. Sometimes he plays his more pop-soul stuff, but he mixed in a bunch of his South London Grime and Trap. Good shit. Next we went to Lab Group who was pretty great as well. It was my first time seeing any of them and enjoyable. I walked over to see New Thousand which is a violin-electronica jam band that I think only plays at Buku. They were great as usual. I had to go to my locker and caught about 5 minutes of Rezz along the way. It sounded fine, and she’s really gotten better since her early days. It’s not really that interesting to me, but it was loud. I got a few minutes of Baton Rouge rapper Lango. There weren’t that many people there for the start, but it filled up. He was okay. Bas was next. He was pretty good. I’ll probably see him again at Bonnaroo. First time seeing him. We walked over to the small stage and saw 504Icygirl rap a short set. She was super happy to be breaking out into a festival setting. That stage was weird because it was set up for the three Choke Hole sets this weekend. Apparently that’s a drag wrestling group, so the stage is ringed with ropes and turnbuckles. Lmfao. I wish I could have seen them too.
Next was CloZee. Got the usual comments from the crowd like “why can’t it be her and not Rezz or Alison”. Haha. She was great and always gets better. Fuck any haters. I went to 15 minutes of Liquid Stranger before Tame Impala. I didn’t want to leave Liquid as he is my favorite producer, but you can’t miss Tame. Tame fucking ruled. Kevin was particularly animated and talked a lot through the show wanting to prove they could turn it up too considering what Buku is. They did. Show fucking ruled for me. I’ve seen Tame a few times, but I don’t know the names of all the songs they play. I’m assuming set list was standard for a 75 minute festival set, but I’ll look at that later.
We got to Orpheum in time to see Canabliss. It was her and some other chick up there doing chick stoner-wook. It was supposed to be a b2b set with Redrum, but I don’t know if that was who that was. Next on was Mize. Mize went pretty hard. I’ve seen him at a Tipper gathering already, so I knew what to expect (lots of hip hop inspired stuff). Liquid Stranger came on about 2:30 and owned shit as he always does. I was about 20 drinks in at that point, but I managed to power through the night. He brought out Wreckno to play their recent collaboration.
Good fucking day 1 at Buku. Crowd was fairly young but super nice. People came up to me and bullshitted all day. Tons of people knew me who I guess I’ve met along the way. I briefly ran into Vieux C heading in opposite directions. I’ll look for you today.
I’ll get my schedule up before I leave to head out today. Solid B of a day for Buku. Top sets early were Tame Impala, Liquid Stranger late, Wreckno and Chee b2b Tsruda.

Tame set list seems to be his festival standard for this tour. still just so damn good i bet even if it isn’t the full 2 hours like his solos!
Last night was great. Nice running into esteban. We had completely different schedules. The new layout is cool, I just wish they paved the gravel because it sucks. I liked that it was easy to get into good spots without feeling crowded. I do miss the power plant stage though.

Yeah that section on the rocks is a little weak and beats up your feet. I had a new pair of shoes though, so I didn’t get too much damage. I hope to see you today for a set or two if we cross schedules. We are always front left in the ballroom or Wharf and wherever at the big stages. Really looking forward to seeing Treety today. Tentative schedule is GLBL WRMNG, Flo Milli, Moore Kismet, Vince Staples, Sullivan King, Baby Keem, a few minutes of Maxo Kream, Glass Animals, Treety, Kali Uchis a few minutes of Amelie Lens and Tyler. Should be fun.

cant wait for the Moore Kismet review! their set at Roo is gonna be nuts i believe
Saturday recap - Went and saw GLBL WRMNG. This was Pell, Kr3wcial, Sleasy-EZ, Alfred Banks, James Seville and LeTrainiump. They took turns singing their songs and played with a live band which was a drummer, trumpeter, keyboard player, guitarist and bass player. It's new era grove rap with some soul mixed in. So that was pretty cool.
Next we went and watched about 20 minutes of Tsu Nami. She was pretty good. It's not my style of EDM, but it was loud and hitting. There was a disadvantageous schedule change which moved Flo Milli, Moore Kismet and Vince Staples into some conflict. I wanted to see all 3, but I wasn't missing any of Vince. So I went to Flo Milli with all the bad bitches for about 30 minutes. She was kicking ass and is a good rapper live despite the glamor and all that. Moore was at the Ballroom, so I walked over there and got 15 or so minutes of them. It was pretty heavy, but I thought it would be a little more dubbed out than just fast pumping style. Maybe it was after I had to leave for Vince, but it was a solid performance.
Next up was Vince Staples. Vince was already one of the highlights of the festival heading into it, and I haven't seen him in a few years. This set ruled. He spent a lot of time talking to the crowd and telling us how much he loves the city and coming down. He brought some chump up on stage and talked to him for a while, put him on a speaker for a stage dive, and the dude lightly jumps off the speaker to the ground instead of stage diving. So Vince had to call him out for being a pussy. So fun and turned up.
Next was over to Sullivan King. It was okay, but he didn't bring his guitar, and I felt like it was a little too poppier than I wanted it to be. So I rolled over to Baby Keem and got the first 25 minutes of that show. He was really good with a good flow. It was a little tempered live, but he's talented. I went to go see that drag wrestling production "choke hole" and made it through about 15 minutes. It was dumb as shit, but people were loving it. I went to Glass Animals next. They sounded good, but I don't love their music which is a little pop and dancier than what I like. They said they'd been in town for a few days and feel like it's the greatest city in the world. You don't hear that every day from the English. But we'll take it. People were having fun at this set and singing along. I ran out of time to catch Maxo Kream so that blew. We walked to Treety and watched her for about 10 minutes before Kali Uchis. I had seen her before at ACL and liked that show more in the afternoon than later in the evening. It was good and all but slow for that spot. I wanted to go pay my respects to Amelie Lens, so I went back to the Ballroom for 15 minutes. I don't even like Techno, but that shit was cranked. There were only a couple hundred people in there, because everyone was going to be at Tyler.
Tyler was the shit. He didn't bring any of his props out - car, boat, etc. And he didn't have that much of a stage show beyond rapping and connecting with the audience. He talked for a long time about the city, being in the city and whatever. He mentioned that he loves the food, but some lady tried to give him some turtle soup, and he was like wtf y'all be eating turtles. We went to the late night Svdden Death b2b Sullivan King. It was decent, but it didn't deliver the punch I wanted. Mersiv was the best at the aftershow. We heard Lab Group was killer around the corner, but I didn't have tickets to that. I got the festival come-down today missing the excitement and stimulation that keeps us all going back. I'll post some food reviews and a top sets list later or tomorrow. But it was a fun ass party weekend. I never drink that much, and I didn't stop for two days.
Final Rakings for the weekend and mostly final thoughts.
Best shows:
1. Tame Impala 2. Vince Staples 3. Tyler the Creator 4. Liquid Stranger (late night) 5. CloZee 6. Chee b2b Tsruda 7. Flo Milli 8. Bas 9. Lab Group (festival set) T. Wreckno
HM: Amelie Lens, Tierra, Glass Animals, Moore Kismet, Mersiv (late night). I didn't include Ministry or C.O.C. which were Thursday night and a warmup for me but not part of the festival. I didn't see most of the big name acts besides the headliners ($B, Allison Wonderland, Rezz, Porter Robinson, Maxo Kream, Trippie Redd).
Food was pretty good throughout the weekend. I got some chicken and waffles which had a good spicy syrup, but the fried chicken wasn't seasoned enough and should have been salted upon coming out the fryer. I had some pretty good shrimp creole and rice from a local caterer. Free whiskey was Crown Royal which isn't what I drink but not something to really complain about. Grand Oaks Mansion was great, but I only went in once on Saturday and no times on Sunday. That's the artist hangout with free food and an open bar in there. It was just too out of the way, and you had to enter from one spot which was highly inconvenient. Stages were all pretty cool and didn't have much bleed when you were at them though you could hear some if you were all the way in the back. Biggest complaint I had was that there wasn't enough water in the handwashing stations or any sanitizer that I could find in any of the public restroom areas. They did have that in the VIP areas, but coming out of a pandemic where everyone is more conscious of sanitizing, you have to do better than that. There weren't usually lines for the bathrooms, bars (that much) or food. It was an ultra diverse crowd as you would expect since that's what Buku is really all about anyway (gender, orientation, race, etc.) which is reflected in the lineup. I didn't see much foolishness or anyone falling out this time though I did see a stretcher getting rolled to one of the medical areas. Lots of hard partying, but it was a pretty happy crowd overall. Congrats to whoever got my anti-ground score. Unfortunate but not lethal. Plus I found a 2K Diamond in a parking lot a couple months ago. So I’m not tripping. I would also say girls were showing lots of buttocks.
1. Glass Animals 2. Tame Impala 3. Tyler, the Creator 4. Flo Milli 5. $uicideboy$ 6. Vince Staples 7. TroyBoi 8. Alison Wonderland 9. Lane 8 10. Porter Robinson
Lane 8 was an unexpected happy find. I didn't think would be into that, but it was really chill and good. PLUS, the people watching at that stage. LORD. There were some girls going hard. I don't know what was playing in their minds, but it was not Lane 8.

To me they were the best of the weekend. So much energy, got the crowd hyped, played all the hits. So good. I danced the whole time.

Yeah only made it Saturday but gotta agree on everything said about Glass Animals had a great time and really wouldn’t mind catching them again. Honestly I thought brought a headliner level show imo.

It depends on what you like. If you are a fan like Vieux, you will love them. if you are a casual fan, you'll probably have a very good time. I gave them an HM because the crowd there was pretty into it. They don't do much for me musically as they're more pop/dance pop than almost anything I listen to. But they can be pretty captivating, and it was certainly a sing along and dance party for those at that set.
I am in tears, y'all. I go every fucking year. What the fuck am I going to do now?
Personally I drive to Cali once a year for desert daze
from queens?? damn i admire your commitment.
Boston calling is definitely in danger too i would say, if it weren’t for Metallica day selling out I think it would have shut down. Hopefully they get another slam dunk next year, would hate to have it narrowed down to firefly and gov ball.

Oh I moved to Denver a few years ago. I would drive to bonnaroo when I was in NY though
